About the Author:

Alain Stella is a traveller and writer. He has published numerous books with Flammarion including The Book of Coffee (1997), The Book of Tea (1992/2005), The Little Book of Coffee (2001), French Tea: Mariage Frères—Three Centuries of Savoir-Faire (2009), Distinctive Vintages (2008), and The Book of Spices (2000). 

Francis Hammond’s photographs have been published in French Tea: Mariage Frères and Elegant Entertaining (2009). He regularly works in the fashion and advertising industries, contributes to international magazines, and divides his time between New York and Paris.

Bearing witness to the tensions of public space in Europe: this is the aim of the European Prize for Urban Public Space. About the Author:

Katharina Gruzei studied fine arts at the University of Art in Linz and the University of the Arts Berlin. She lives and works in Linz and Vienna as a freelance artist specializing in the media of photography, video, film, sound, and installation.

Since the London “Metropolitan Railway” was opened in 1863 the subway has become a symbol of urban life. Tunnel systems are the lifelines of the big cities, transporting millions of passengers every day. Tunnel systems constitute the arteries of every modern city. In increasingly densely populated and growing metropolises the underground metro system is gaining in importance.
