About the Author:

Stephen McLaren is the co-author of the acclaimed Street Photography Now and editor of Magnum Streetwise. A writer for the British Journal of Photography, he has also presented histories of street photography at Tate Liverpool, The School of Life and various international street photography festivals. Matt Stuart is one of the leading street photographers working today and the author of All That Life Can Afford and Think Like a Street Photographer. He has exhibited his work and taught street photography all over the globe.

The volume collects a rich selection of photographs from the archives of the Magnum Photos agency, taken by Robert Capa, in a combination of emblematic shots of his work and images that have appeared more rarely.

The intent is to hint at some facets of a passionate and ultimately elusive character as Capa was: a courageous witness of his time, a strong, insatiable and at the same time dissatisfied personality, with the traits of a gambler. American photographer Steve McCurry (b.1950) is universally recognized as one of today’s finest image-makers and has won many of photography’s top awards. Steve McCurry (b.1950) launched his career as a photojournalist when disguised in native garb, he crossed the Pakistan border into Afghanistan over twenty years ago. His remarkable coverage won him the Robert Capa Gold Medal, which is awarded to photographers who exhibit exceptional courage and enterprise. Famous also for his work in Southeast Asia, McCurry’s photographs are beautiful, uplifting and affecting. McCurry is a regular contributor to many international journals including National Geographic magazine. He is a member of Magnum Photos.

David Gibson is one of the founder members of In-Public, the first modern international collective of street photographers. In-Public, which began in 2000, has been a pivotal influence worldwide on the growing popularity of street photography. David has taken street photographs since the early 1990s and is now a highly respected photography tutor, running workshops in London and other cities worldwide

The coronation of George VI on 12 May 1937 was one of the biggest media events of the interwar period. About the Authors:

Henri Cartier-Bresson, born in 1908, began his career by studying painting before discovering photography in the early 1930s. In 1947 he founded the legendary cooperative agency Magnum Photos together with Robert Capa, David Seymour, William Vandivert and George Rodger. Cartier-Bresson left Magnum Photos in 1974 to devote himself to drawing and painting until his death in 2004. He is still considered one of the most important photographers of the twentieth century.

Clément Chéroux is director of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation in Paris. He has also held senior curatorial positions at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
