Steven Ehrlich Architects has received critical recognition for designing buildings that connect people with people. Its public buildings encourage a multi-cultural fusion of people and place, while the firm's residential designs are best known for their serene environments that replenish the soul. This new book examines in detail Ehrlich's skill at sensing place and listening to people.
Featured in the book is the firm's recent public architecture, including educational facilities, laboratories, libraries, youth centres. Of particular note is the chapter devoted to cross-cultural fusion which examines the Biblioteca Latinoamericana & Washington United Youth Center, the Hallal New Moon residence, and the NorhPoint Parcel mixed-use development. In 2003 the firm was honoured as the firm of the year by the California AIA, recognising sustained levels of design excellence as well as contributions to the profession.
