About the Author:

Jewellery expert Juliet Weir-de La Rochefoucauld comes from a family steeped in the rich history of jewellery; in 1869, her great-grandfather, Thomas Weir founded the jewellers Weir & Sons in Dublin, which is still run by members of the family. A Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem A), Juliet began her career at the auction house, Sotheby’s & Co., London. Currently based in France, she now focuses on writing jewellery books, her other titles include Women Jewellery Designers and Lydia Courteille.

Dora Thornton is Curator of Renaissance Europe and Curator of the Waddesdon Bequest at the British Museum. She curated the new permanent gallery, funded by the Rothschild Foundation, for the Waddesdon Bequest, a Rothschild Kunstkammer in the British Museum. Her most recent book, A Rothschild Renaissance, was published to accompany the gallery opening in June 2015.

David Bennett is the Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division and the Chairman of Sotheby’s Switzerland. Daniela Mascetti is Sotheby’s Chairman of Jewellery in Europe. She joined Sotheby’s in 1980, opening the firm’s Milan-based department. She is one of Sotheby’s most experienced scholars in the history of jewellery, and has collaborated extensively in the sales of historic collections. Her research has assisted with several notable auctions, from The Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor to the collections of Elton John and Gina Lollobrigida.
