Gabriel Kogan, Ellie Stathaki, Amy Frearson, Filippo Bricolo, Scott Mitchem
ID: 17273
Издательство: Rizzoli

The first international publication dedicated to the internationally acclaimed Brazilian architecture studio MK27, founded by Marcio Kogan.

Studio MK27, located in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, was founded in the late ’70s by architect Marcio Kogan who is now partner of Diana Radomysler, Renata Furlanetto, Suzana Glogowski, and Mariana Simas. They lead a team comprised of 50 architects, most of whom have been together for over a decade.

While trying to keep it simple, Studio MK27 blurs the boundaries between the built and natural environments, building stories and shaping spaces through a meticulous process of design with great attention to textures and details.

The book features over 20 projects situated in different contexts all over the world, from the Brazilian countryside, passing through the urban context of Madrid, the snowy mountains of Whistler until an entire island built in Maldives. The book is organized into sections that will guide the reader from a macro to micro perspective of the Studio´s work: Inside-out, Narrative, Light, Texture and Body — especially dedicated to the partnership with Minotti.

Kogan is an honorary member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects), Professor at Politecnico di Milano Polo Mantova, and on the board of Museum of Art of São Paulo (MASP) and the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology (MUBE). Since 2001, the practice has won over 250 international awards, representing Brazil at the Venice Biennale of 2012, ranking 39th in Dezeen´s Hotlist 2017, and including Wallpaper Design Awards.

About the Authors:

Amy Frearson is a journalist and Editor-at-large for Dezeen.

Christoph Luitpold Frommel

Once in every generation comes a scholar who is a master of both the documentary evidence and the buildings themselves. Such a man is Christoph Luitpold Frommel who, after winning a world-wide reputation, here distils his learning into a new synthesis that is both up-to-date and securely based on primary sources.

The book is not only illustrated throughout with photographs, drawings, plans and reconstructions, but social context, technical innovation and aesthetic judgement are all given due weight, with particular emphasis on the way in which each architect balanced individual inspiration with the accepted canon.

Christoph Luitpold Frommel was born in 1933 and has held academic posts in Germany (Bonn University), the USA (Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton, and the University of California, Berkeley) and Italy (La Sapienza, Rome). He was Director of the Bibliotheca Herziana, Rome, from 1980 to 2001.

Until the early 1990s the southern and eastern towns of Yemen were extremely difficult to access. The result of nearly two decades of research, this is the first book to offer an in-depth investigation into the characteristic architecture of the region. The authors first hand research provides detailed insights into building techniques and methods, though still practised, are little known outside the area.

Refreshingly, the book moves out of the more familiar major cities into the hinterlands and explores regions that could be said to be the last strongholds of traditional Arab architecture. The author was allowed to visit locations and sites that had previously been closed to architectural historians. As a result of this privileged access, the text and images combine to convey unique insights and viewpoints: those of the master builders and house owners who actually create and inhabit the buildings.

he Art of Japanese Architecture explores the simplicity, asymmetry, sensitivity to the natural environment, and use of natural materials that are the hallmarks of Japanese architecture. These elements are explored and clarified in this cultural and historical overview of the rapidly changing world of Japanese architecture.
Beginning with a discussion of prehistoric pit dwellings and concluding with a description of significant modern buildings, David and Michiko Young, authors of the 2006 American Horticultural Award-winning book, The Art of the Japanese Garden, analyze the major changes in architecture caused by the introduction of Buddhist culture, the development of feudalism, the influence of Western culture and the adaptation of the international style in contemporary buildings.

Fiammetta d'Arenberg Frescobaldi, Jean-Pierre Gabriel
ID: 7706
Издательство: Lannoo

An exclusive private itinerary leads the reader to the discovery of the refined style that characterises the places where life is lived in Brussels today, revealing different facets of Belgium's capital and highlighting the surprising mixture of classicism and contemporaneity, of magnificence and minimalism that distinguish this cosmopolitan European city awarded Unesco World Heritage status owing to the stately architecture of Grande Place, heart of the metropolis.

The city is renowned for its blend of Gothic art, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, as well as for its medieval architecture, in a miscellany of different aesthetics where the splendid sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Flemish and Walloon mansions complement the delicate, almost mystic Art Nouveau style, whose extraordinary forerunner, Victor Horta, is a native son of Brussels. Author Fiammetta d'Aremberg Frescobaldi offers a novel journey that takes the reader through some thirty homes designed by famous names and located in different areas of the city and its environs. Thus we are privy to the living quarters of passionate art collectors, seeing with our own eyes that the taste and personal history of those dwelling there is in perfect keeping with the distinguishing spirit of the capital: a passion for art.

Shown for the first time ever, these exclusive places are captured in lovely pictures by Photographer Jean-Pierre Gabriel, who interprets them in a way that reflects their refined taste.
