Издательство: Vendome Press

Named Design Book of the Year in the 2017 New York Times holiday gift guide!

Who, exactly, is a haute bohemian? Leave it to the discriminating, gimlet eye of photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna, who enjoys an international, cult-like following. He has journeyed through four continents to capture an extraordinary group of fashion designers, landscape architects, artists and art historians, potters, and interior designers, where they live — country cottages, beach bungalows, canal-side lofts, and East Village apartments, as well as assorted estancias, châteaux, and palazzi. Some of these spaces are grand, others are modest, but all are original, stylish, charming, and above all authentic, in the sense that they reflect their owners’ care and taste.

 About the Authors:

Argentine born, Miguel Flores-Vianna has been an editor, writer, and photographer for more than twenty-five years. His photography is regularly published in TADWorld of InteriorsVogue, and Town and Country. Until 2015, Flores-Vianna published a popular blog and print feature in T. He lives in London.

Havana Living Today is an insider’s view of the styles present in this revitalizing city, taking the reader into the elegant, eccentric, sophisticated, and classical melange of the city’s finest and most fascinating interiors.

Author Michael Connors, Foreword by Ricardo Porro, Photographs by Nestor Marti
ID: 16411
Издательство: Rizzoli

A revealing collection of astonishingly fresh and undiscovered midcentury architecture and interiors in Havana. Caribbean design expert and historian Michael Connors leads the reader on an unprecedented tour in Havana of the stunning and architecturally important private homes and buildings that have been meticulously preserved, previously unphotographed, and mostly inaccessible to visitors. This lavish book represents the modern movement in Cuban architecture, from art nouveau and art deco to the flowering of high modernism just before the Revolution, spanning from the early 1900s to 1965. At a time when travelers are rediscovering Cuba, this volume offers a range of the city’s twentieth-century cultural achievements. The photographs, shot exclusively for the book, show examples from the artsy Vedado neighborhood, the seaside streets of Miramar, Central Havana, and Havana’s posh Country Club Park area. Included are iconic places such as Cuba’s remarkably futuristic National Schools of Art; the art deco landmark Bacardi building; Casa de Alfred von Schulthess by Richard Neutra; the stylish Habana Riviera Hotel, and its original 1957 interiors; the Hotel Nacional de Cuba designed by McKim, Mead & White, on Havana’s seaside drive the Malecón; and the world-famous Tropicana cabaret nightclub by architect Max Borges. Havana Modern is a pioneering book of modern design that shows a corner of the world where modern architecture thrived and has been carefully preserved.

About the Authors:

Michael Connors has more than thirty years of experience in writing, consultation, and teaching in fine and decorative arts. He has authored many books. Ricardo Porro is a Cuban-born architect. In 1961, he was designated as the head of design for Havana’s National Schools of Art.

Heidi Caillier, Photographs by Haris Kenjar, Foreword by Amber Lewis
ID: 15868
Издательство: Rizzoli

In her debut book, designer Heidi Caillier shows how to mix moody color with layers of pattern, natural materials, and textures to create spaces that are both beautifully curated and comfortably livable.

Heidi Caillier believes that our homes should create a sense of place, and serve as the setting for lifelong memories. In her first book, she shares twelve houses from across the country, from the islands of Puget Sound to the Berkshires. The rooms of these houses are simultaneously nostalgic and of the moment. Caillier is a master of mixing patterns, combining florals with graphic lines and shapes, as well as using deeper, muddy colors to create coziness and warmth. There is a tension between masculine and feminine, modern and traditional as vintage pieces mingle with contemporary to create spaces that feel intrinsically inviting and effortlessly designed.

A creative mind who took the path less traveled, Caillier informs her interiors and this book with the same vibrant and enthusiastically patterned joie de vivre that colors her own life; creating homes that are nostalgic, romantic, creative, inviting, and made for both the big and small moments of life. Her warm and layered interiors create a backdrop for living — at the ready to create memories of home.

About the Authors:

Heidi Caillier’s work has been featured in Elle DecorArchitectural DigestHouse BeautifulBetter Homes and Gardens, the Wall Street Journal, and many more. In 2022 she was named to the 1stDibs 50 List. Author Hollister Hovey, Photographs by Porter Hovey
ID: 15589
Издательство: Rizzoli

A look inside the homes of today’s stylish new "heirloomists." Proclaimed as "the New Antiquarians" in the New York Times, Hollister and Porter Hovey are proponents of an aesthetic that puts Ralph Lauren, the Royal Tennenbaums, and a whole lot of taxidermy into a tarnished silver cocktail shaker and mixes it all up. As the principles of Hovey Design, they work to integrate nostalgia, adventure, and history into the home. In this book, the sisters pull back the velvet drapes on the model ships, antique book collections, and vintage Vuitton trunks that fill the homes of today’s chicest heirloomists and flea-market lovers, and give readers a visual taste of this eclectic, generation-hurdling aesthetic. This book opens up the homes of individuals and couples to show how they use décor to give their residences a sense of history and autobiography. The Hoveys venture into the apartments, cottages, and townhouses of artists, architects, designers, furniture makers, and landscape designers, who seamlessly integrate inherited keepsakes, tag sale curiosities, collections and memorabilia, and contemporary art. Inspiring in its eclecticism, this book introduces readers to a new kind of modern.

About the Author:

Hollister Hovey is the creator of the history-laden lifestyle blog, "Hollister Hovey." Porter Hovey is a photographer and interior decorator. They are the founders of Hovey Design. Their nostalgia-highlighting aesthetic has been featured multiple times in the New York Times, as well as in House Beautiful, Domino, and Design Sponge.

Emily Evans Eerdmans, Foreword by Jacques Grange and Eva Samuel
ID: 16253
Издательство: Rizzoli

The first book dedicated to Henri Samuel, considered one of the best French interior designers of the twentieth century and acclaimed for his mastery of historical design, as well as his eye for contemporary presentation and furnishings — a high-point addition to Rizzoli’s continuing coverage of the masters of the field.

Design legend Henri Samuel believed that a successful interior was one in which an observer never suspected that a decorator had been involved. This book takes the reader inside some of Samuel’s groundbreaking and inspiring interiors, beginning with his first job assisting Stéphane Boudin of Jansen in the 1920s through postwar Paris society and into the go-go ’80s. During his illustrious career, Samuel created rarefied and beautiful environments for his jet-set clientele — Doris Duke, Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, Susan and John Gutfreund, Valentino Garavani, and multiple Rothschilds and Vanderbilts. Such was his expertise that museums such as Versailles and the Metropolitan Museum of Art consulted him on the installation of period rooms. Samuel was a master at reproducing intimate spaces in various historic styles in addition to mixing those styles in an erudite way: modernist paintings were installed over Empire consoles, Louis XIII furniture shared space with Oriental objects, neoclassical chairs were placed beside tables of brass and Plexiglas.

This book records Samuel’s life, his career, and the luxurious interiors he created for his clients and himself—rooms that look as fresh and alive today as they did when they were first arranged. It is a necessary addition to any design library.

About the Author:

Emily Evans Eerdmans is an acclaimed design expert, historian, and author. She teaches connoisseurship and design history at the New York School of Interior Design. Jacques Grange, who early in his career worked with both Henri Samuel and Madeleine Castaing, has been one of the foremost French designers for more than four decades.

Jay Wickersham, Chris Milford, and Hope Mayo, with an essay by James F. O’Gorman and a foreword by Thomas Hyry
ID: 18386
Издательство: Monacelli Press

The first in-depth publication of drawings that reveal the creative genius of H. H. Richardson, the greatest American architect of the nineteenth century

The trove of 4,000 drawings, preserved since Richardson’s death, have been largely unpublished, until now. This new book encompasses masterpieces such as Trinity Church in Boston, MA— voted the “most beautiful building in America” in 1885— the Allegheny County Courthouse and Jail in Pittsburgh, PA; the Ames Gate Lodge in Easton, MA; the Glessner House and the Marshall Field Wholesale Store in Chicago, IL; and many more.

The book makes a major contribution to Richardson scholarship through its presentation of unpublished sketches, renderings, and plans of more than 50 projects, including city and country houses, churches, libraries, railroad stations, and municipal buildings. Its companion text includes an essay surveying the life and career of Richardson by James F. O’Gorman, the leading scholar of his work, which provides context to the drawings, together with additional essays that discuss the organization of Richardson’s studio in Brookline, MA, and his personal approach to a wide network of clients as well as an overview of the Richardson archive at Harvard.

With its curated selection of 450 drawings, meticulously reproduced to reveal the design process and hand of the architect, this book is a revelatory exploration of Richardson’s work, work that set American architecture on a new course and exerted a global influence on the birth of modernism.

A unique glimpse inside a world of luxury, tradition, and splendour.

Many historic homes in Paris serve as residences to foreign ambassadors; these historical sites are closed to the general public. From a seventeenth-century hôtel particulier, to a Belle Epoque palace, to a distinctively contemporary setting, each residence rivals the next in its beauty, art collection, and period furniture set against a backdrop of accomplished refinement.

Alain Stella invites us over the threshold inside the most prestigious chancelleries and ambassador residences in Paris — from China and Peru to Egypt and Poland. Tapestries inspired by Goya’s drawings grace the lavish salons at the Spanish residence. Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand created a minimalist interior at the Japanese residence that evokes the refined style of a traditional Japanese home. The palace of Eugène de Beauharnais — home to the German ambassadors since 1818 — retains its elaborate Empire style, intact since the time of Josephine.

Superb photographs, specially commissioned for this book over the course of a year, divulge the secrets of these previously unpublished artistic and architectural treasures.

About the Author:

Alain Stella is a traveller and writer. He has published numerous books with Flammarion including The Book of Coffee (1997), The Book of Tea (1992/2005), The Little Book of Coffee (2001), French Tea: Mariage Frères—Three Centuries of Savoir-Faire (2009), Distinctive Vintages (2008), and The Book of Spices (2000).

Francis Hammond’s photographs have been published in French Tea: Mariage Frères and Elegant Entertaining (2009). He regularly works in the fashion and advertising industries, contributes to international magazines, and divides his time between New York and Paris.

Gil Schafer III, Eric Piasecki
ID: 17254
Издательство: Rizzoli

Bestselling author and popular American architect Gil Schafer returns with the final installment in his trilogy on the rewards of living in the American house.

The work of Gil Schafer — one of the world’s leading experts on contemporary traditional architecture — is beloved for its elegance, charm, and strong sense of history and place. Since his last book, Schafer has become a husband and stepfather, a change that has deepened his understanding of how a house must reflect and support the lives of those who live within its walls. Home at Last is a distillation of what he has learned and how he translates it to his work on houses that are adaptive to the evolution of life, depending upon a family’s needs.

The book includes homes he has designed in the mist-covered Hudson Valley, on a bluff above Lake Champlain, on the windswept shores of Block Island, and on the coast of Maine. Schafer shares the stories of these houses and their owners, exploring the choices made for architecture and interiors, and reemphasizing his guiding principles: how to create classical buildings that “live modern”; how to adapt buildings to different regions and ways of life; the connection to landscape; why fancy can coexist with simple, and traditional with modern.

With original photography by Eric Piasecki, layered with practical takeaways, Home at Last is a tribute to the power of the American house.

About the Author:

Gil Schafer III is a member of Architectural Digest’s AD100, a recipient of the Arthur Ross Award for Architecture, and the author of The Great American House and A Place to Call Home.

Acclaimed photographer Eric Piasecki’s work has appeared in several books.

D. Stanley Dixon, Photographs by Eric Piasecki, Foreword by Charlotte Moss
ID: 15864
Издательство: Rizzoli

The debut book from award-winning Southern architect Stan Dixon, one of a highly influential group of Atlanta-based architects and designers who are revolutionizing the design world with their work.

Stan Dixon’s edited approach to the classical elements of architecture creates an understated aesthetic that is historically based while embracing influences of modern design. Through contextually sensitive work of appropriate style, scale, and proportion, he crafts buildings of permanence and delight, while providing their occupants with a beautiful place in which to live their lives. Dixon takes risks in blending genres and styles, with results that are creative and original.

In his first book, Dixon shares thirteen projects that vary geographically and stylistically — from a whimsical coastal retreat on Jupiter Island to an elegant English-manor-inspired dwelling on the coast of South Carolina. Each house explores a different component of his aesthetic, instructing the reader in the nature of authentic architecture while simultaneously delighting them with moments large and small — a shadow of garden gate, a striking stairwell, a tiered veranda.

Photographed primarily by Eric Piasecki, featuring the work of Suzanne Kasler, Jackye Lanham, Carolyn Malone, Beth Webb, Tammy Connor, and other talented designers, HOME: The Residential Architecture of D. Stanley Dixon will resonate with and deeply engage readers in search of home.

About the Authors:
