For years Metropolitan Home magazine published a favourite annual issue known as the Design 100, which honoured superlative invention and creativity in international design.

METROPOLITAN HOME'S DESIGN 100 is, in a sense, a book-size version of the best selling issue, focusing on the best homes and the best rooms ever to have appeared in Met Home. Each of the 100 houses, apartments, lofts or rooms included in the book is the greatest of something, each represents some essential area of Met Home's faithful coverage of the evolution of modern design, and each has been created by one of the best designers or architects of our time. The 100 taken as a whole have been curated in the spirit of Met Home in an attempt to be lively, beautiful, accessible, aspirational and at the same time real.

Miami Houses is a beautifully produced and copiously illustrated tour of residential design by renowned architects such as Ramon Pacheco, Pablo Uribe, Barry Sugarman, Alain Schuhmann, and Santiago Bernal.

The dazzling re-designs of houses in the landmark Art Deco District and the distinctive Latin-inspired interior design on view here have succeeded in making innovation the hallmark of Miami style. Includes an introduction and helpful captions.

What city made Don Johnson a Ferrari-driving pastel-suit-wearing international icon, is playground for the America’s retired upper crust, birthplace of the plastic-pink-flamingo-in-the-front-yard phenomenon, and home to America’s biggest Cuban population? You don’t have to be a genius to figure out that Miami is the singular town in question. Fun, happy, and sexy homes populate this dreamy seaside city where blue sky, green palm leaves, and electric vibes provide an exotic backdrop to the fabulous and outrageous interiors we’ve selected for you. Among the gems we’ve mined for this new addition to our Interiors collection are locations used in the television series “Flipper” and “Miami Vice,” a house on stilts suspended over the crystal clear ocean water, a high-rise apartment with jaw-dropping views, the Art Deco fabulousness of Morris Lapidus’s Eden Roc hotel, and a Cuban woman’s modest home bursting with kitschy religious paraphernalia. Whether they’re exploding with color and pizzazz or imploding with white minimalism, these are the crème de la crème of Miami pads.

Miami is a world-renowned, cosmopolitan city with an architectural history to match. Its many treasures include not only Miami Beach's Art Deco buildings and Coral Gables, but also the houses and commercial buildings of the immediate postwar era, tropical vernacular architecture, mid-century modernism, and avant-garde high-rise buildings on the waterfront. What all these creations have in common is the intention to allure, delight, and engage the imagination and senses. Indeed, many of Miami's architects have conceived of the city in theatrical terms-a city as stage set. This book covers both well-known masterpieces and the overlooked ones, featuring spectacular color photography as well as archival imagery. With a text that is superbly informed, Miami is at once a definitive scholarly work and a seductive compendium of the area's fabled architecture.

Michael Smith, Christine Pittel
ID: 4065
Издательство: Rizzoli

Creating your dream house - a prospect as exciting as it is daunting. Michael S Smith, a favorite among celebrity clientele, reveals the method of his design magic. Offering thoughtful ideas and practical advice, the designer walks the reader through his process, from the gathering of resource material (from magazines and iconic films to something as simple as a shell or a swatch of vintage fabric), expertly pairing simpler and grander elements (or inexpensive with more extravagant objects), perfecting the editing process, to knowing when a room is finished.

Detailing the nearly encyclopedic range of styles he culls from to create his signature style, the designer describes recent examples of his work, beginning with a modest and quirkily designed house in Bel Air, Smith redid for himself. Razed, rebuilt, and decorated over the course of five years, the house allowed Smith to experiment and explore ideas freely and the result is a gracious home, as welcoming as it is stylish. In addition to his California residence, twenty other projects are featured, from a New England clapboard to a Malibu villa overlooking the Pacific to a city townhouse. In each, Smith deconstructs the elements which come together to make the ideal home.

Very small buildings have a special appeal. The constraints of space and cost can actually liberate the imagination. Most of the projects in this book consist of no more than a few key spaces, in many cases just a single space. They are united only by their compact nature, the pleasure that they can provide and the intelligence that they embody.

A brief introduction is followed by five thematic chapters: Public Realm, Community Spaces, On the Move, Compact Living and Extra Space. The 53 case studies include a park bench that transforms into a shelter for the homeless in Australia, an inflatable treetop structure for rainforest observation, a portable house for victims of hurricane Katrina, a transportable church in Finland and a suspended office in France.

Architects Philip Johnson, Marcel Breuer, Landis Gores, Eliot Noyes, Edward Durell Stone, and others created an extraordinary collection of modern houses in New Canaan, Connecticut, in the 1940s and 1950s.

The bucolic New England town — a suburb of Manhattan — became the site of fervent experimentation by some of the leading lights of the movement in the United States, the architects known as the Harvard Five, whose modern aesthetic could be traced to the Bauhaus school of design. There they promoted their core principles: simplicity, openness, and sensitivity to site and nature, and built glass, wood, steel, and fieldstone houses that established architectural modernism as the ideal of domesticity in the twentieth century.

Architects Jeffrey Matz and Cristina A. Ross, photographer Michael Biondo, and graphic designer Lorenzo Ottaviani present this vanishing generation of iconic American houses as more than an issue of restoration or preservation, but as an evolving legacy that adapts to contemporary life. Selecting a representative group of sixteen houses covering the period between the 1950s and 1978, they portray each one in great detail, with floor plans, timelines, and both archival and luminous new photography — from the clean, minimalist look of the initial construction, to subsequent additions by some of the most significant architects of our time including Toshiko Mori, Roger Ferris, and Joeb Moore. Voices of the architects and builders, original owners and current occupants combine to describe how the houses are enjoyed and lived in today, and how the modernist residence is more than just a philosophy of design and construction, but also a philosophy of living.

The lack of available surface area, budget restraints or solely seasonal use are the main criteria that lay behind these small-scale dwellings. This book showcases the expertise of architects in tackling a project despite the determining factors that may limit them. Small urban homes, holiday chalets, studio apartments, lofts, duplexes, prefab houses and even tree houses illustrate the pages of this book.

The last few decades have seen a boom in the development of small houses in response to the reduced size of families, the density of cities, the demands of todays citizens and the rise in price per square meter of property. These small homes present the perfect solution for busy professionals, married couples without children and adults who want to live alone or with their partner. Far from the concept of the last century, where importance and power were reflected by the size of a home, small houses (also known as mini houses) have staked their claim in current architectural development. In response to the increase in this type of small property, numerous companies and brands have created and developed products specifically for these compact spaces, marking a trend based on economy of resources and minimalist ideas.
