With its perfect combination of new and old, romance, nostalgia and comfort, country style has universal appeal. From a converted barn in the English Cotswolds to a Mallorcan finca, and from a Russian dacha to a grand Swiss villa, the 100 fabulous interiors featured in this book will provide endless inspiration for city dwellers seeking to escape the fast pace of urban living, and committed countryside lovers contemplating the restoration or refurbishment of their rural idyll. Johanna Thornycroft describes how colour, pattern and the sympathetic use of traditional materials and finishes have been employed in each project to create a confident and relaxed style, while beautiful images by leading interiors photographer Andreas von Einsiedel bring to life the charm and character of every house.
Everyone has an idea of their own dream home, whether it be a minimally furnished apartment overlooking a city skyline or an informal and colourful retreat in the sun. Whatever your dream, this bestselling book – now available in paperback for the first time – presents 100 inspirational interiors of all styles from around the globe, from New England to Mallorca and from Provence to South Africa. Alongside the work of many of the world’s most talented interior designers are homes that have been imaginatively transformed by the vision and commitment of their owners.
Features 100 inspirational homes, the key characteristics of which are concisely and compellingly described by leading interiors writer Johanna Thornycroft
Stunningly illustrated with more than 800 photographs by world-renowned interiors photographer Andreas von Einsiedel
An essential reference for anyone wanting to turn their dream home into a reality
What this book is great for is supplying an abundance of images of well-designed rooms which are stylish, fresh and original. This book is organized by rooms (living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens etc.) and by features such as beds, lighting etc. so if you're looking for ideas say for a fireplace mantel, you get some fresh inspiration on a design approach.
Many of us in designing our home may have difficulty articulating what we like, but when we see it, we know it. This books offers a visual file of images for us to peruse to begin to identify what we love in design. Often, what we love is complex - an assortment of color, textures, the way the light hits the room, a furniture style. This book offers a vast array of rooms and style to help begin to define it. You can also use it as a resource say if you want ideas on accessorizing a room - go through and see how different rooms use collections and accessories and what you like seeing in a room, or on a table, and the quantity of stuff you want to surround yourself with.
If you find a room in this book you would love to live in, or visit in a friend's home/apartment then you can begin to analyze the design elements that are attracting you. What I love about this series, is that the residences are not just from the United States but have an international focus. As many popular design styles originated in Europe, it's great to see real rooms from these homes, rather than our take on a particular style. The rooms are more authentic and organic - but the style can be translated and adapted. Much better to look at an original. For seasoned designers, this book offers an abundance of ideas that don't necessarily pop up in popular decorating magazines.
The book is a square ten inches approximately and a mix of 10 X 10 pictures of rooms and then some pages where 4 images fit on one page so a lot of rooms are included in the book. Quantity and quality images are combined. This book should be great for those of us who are looking for design ideas for our own homes and designers who are looking for fresh inspiration. The styles featured in this book tend to be classic, eclectic, some modern and a wonderful mix of formal and relaxed so the rooms and this book shouldn't get dated quickly. It's a good resource of well-designed rooms in beautiful buildings. I love the room on the cover of this book;the quality of it is typical of what you'll find inside.

In Easy Elegance, Atlanta Bartlett offers a liveable, practical and elegant alternative to today's fast-changing parade of interior trends and glossy show homes. Comfort, simplicity and a sense of practicality are the key elements. The knack lies in mixing the old with the new and the luxurious with the everyday to create a home that's warm and welcoming, yet versatile and chic.
Atlanta starts by taking a look at the four main elements of the look: Comfort, Simplicity, Function and Individuality. Next, in Setting the Scene, Atlanta maps out the five different facets of Easy Elegance to help you pinpoint the style that suits you best. There are the clean lines of Modern Elegance, the cosy comfort of Country Elegance, the quirky appeal of Retro Elegance, the soft sensuality of Feminine Elegance, or the vintage charm of Faded Elegance. Finally, in Easy Elegant Living, Atlanta takes you through every room in the house, demonstrating just how easy it can be to create a home that ticks all the boxes: warm, welcoming, relaxed, and stylish.
Explore these inspirational interiors and create a home that's practical, relaxed and stylish.
Hundreds of ideas for easy, elegant design and decoration.
The spaces children occupy in the home are not only play areas, but rather something much more complex, they are their kingdoms. It is where the major part of their leisure, rest and study time is spent. From there, is the importance of instilling in them at a very young age to appreciate the value of sustainable products.
This is an exciting collection of the most innovative and original eco-friendly children's products. The spaces children occupy in the home are not only play areas, but something much more complex, they are their kingdoms. It is where the major part of their leisure, rest and study time is spent. It is in these spaces that we can begin to instil in them, from a young age, an appreciation of the value of sustainable products and environmentally friendly living. All of the products shown in the book are geared and manufactured with ecological friendly materials that do not harm the environment and perfectly adapt to the needs of the little ones at home.
Eco Remodeling Green Architecure features a typological variety of projects and architectural styles, all clearly contemporary but inevitably influenced by the project pre-existences who must, in one way or another, adapt. We also discover different types of renovations, rehabilitations or additions that staged the very heterogeneous and varied ideas of the concept of rehabilitation.
Egypt’s romantic allure does not end with the age of the pharaohs. This lavishly illustrated book offers an unprecedented look inside the opulent estates of the pashas, khedives, and great ladies of 19th-century Egypt, and the princes and kings of the early 20th century. Here in all its cosmopolitan splendor is the world of unparalleled prosperity that attracted adventurers the world over, from the Belle Époque through the Roaring Twenties. The stories of the families and architects behind 41 spectacular villas and palaces make this volume as fascinating to read as it is to look at. Sumptuously illustrated with 174 original color photographs, Egyptian Palaces and Villas will entrance and delight anyone interested in this proud land and its dramatic history.
Eileen Gray is now celebrated as a pioneer of modern design and one of the most influential designers of the twentieth century, together with Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto, Gerrit Rietveld and Charles Eames.
Her Bibendum chair and E.1027 table are today familiar icons around the world, while E.1027 and Tempe à Pailla – two houses that she built and furnished entirely with her own designs – are cited among the purest examples of Twenties and Thirties architecture.
Peter Adam, a long-time friend of Gray’s, has had privileged access to her surviving correspondence, drawings and journals as well as her architectural sketchbooks and photographic archives. From these sources he has built up a full-scale picture of her eventful life, from her aristocratic beginnings in Ireland, to the extravagant Art Deco period in Paris, and her productive years in the south of France.
Enriched by a wealth of previously unpublished material and an extensive plates section in full colour and duotone, this volume is a mine of rare and fascinating information which reveals above all the contemporary relevance of Eileen Gray’s work.
'More is more'. That is the motto of paster decorator Pieter Porters. His interiors are rich, full and cosy; even a little decadent. Interiors in which people can really live. The luxurious finishing of Elegance & Decadance also reflects that grandness.
What is the use of a lovely house or interior if you dare not live in it? If you are frightened of making something dirty or damaging it? In our eyes, a house should be a warm nest, a place where after a busy day, you can relax, and where family and friends are welcome.
Whether we help build up a house from cellar to attic, or add atmosphere to an existing interior with a few well-chosen accessories, at House of Porters we want to create a timeless world, in which people will feel comfortable. We aim for warmth, light, homeliness, comfort. Cold interiors or harsh colours are not our things. That does not mean that we never take on design or modern interiors, but even then we strive for that timeless atmosphere, regardless of trends or fashion fads. Our interiors are meant to grow and develop with their occupants throughout their lives.
The interiors illustrated in this book show perfectly what the House of Porters stands for: sumptuous, homely, warm and elegant, with here and there a touch of decadence.
Featuring interiors from all over the world, including Belgium, The Netherlands, the UK, Germany and Colombia, the pictures by Studio Verne and the magnificent layout by Leen De Pooter will fully grasp the authenticity and vivacity of Pieter Porters' interiors.
Pieter Porters is a decorator and flower binder. His timeless interiors can be admired in an astonishing house in the centre of Antwerp, where he also gives workshops and has a hotel. His previous book Senses of Living was an international bestseller.
This beautiful book is hand-bound with Linen that Porters designed himself and the book has a special closing system with a ribbon and a knot.
