The collector is Sue Hendrickson, a professional diver and a sort of female Indiana Jones, who has spent much of her life collecting pearls found by the people who fish this conch, all over the Caribbean. They gather it for its flesh, which is very good to eat, and, on average, one in every 10,000 shells contains a pearl. This collection has been sold to a Swiss dealer in stones and gems, who has successfully begun to make contemporary jewelry incorporating the pink pearls. The book sets out to tell her story, and that of the rediscovery of these pearls, while giving a professional nudge in the right direction to this “new” gem. John Wilmerding is a Sarofim Professor of American art, emeritus, at Princeton University. He is chairman of the board of trustees of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and a trustee of the Guggenheim Museum and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. He is the author of many books, including monographs on Wayne Thiebaud, Tom Wesselmann, Richard Estes, and Robert Indiana.

About the Author:

Eric was raised in Colorado but lived in several states throughout the U.S. while growing up. He worked as a snow and ice sculptor for nearly ten years, always writing and painting. His love for the arts led him all over the country and eventually to Pietrasanta, Italy where he worked as a marble sculptor. While in Italy, working on anatomy designs of impossible beings, he created the beginnings of what has become The Resurrectionist. Now living in New Jersey with his wife and two children, Eric continues to work as a professional artist.

Gered Mankowitz is one of the most important photographers in the history of popular music. He created enduring and defining images of Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithfull and many other rock stars throughout five decades. Some of Gered's images have become part of the permanent collection of the National portrait Gallery. He works from his home in Cornwall.

Keith Richards is the internationally renowned guitarist from the Rolling Stones. Known for his incredible songwriting partnership with Mick Jagger he is one of the most iconic figures in music.

The rituals of Siberian shamans, the ancient funerary sculptures from the steppes seen as a crystallised presence of archaic and everlasting forms of worship, Chinese popular prints, Japanese engravings, Theosophic and Anthroposophic theories and Indian philosophy are but some of the elements that inspired the aesthetic and theoretical pursuits of the new Russian artists and writers just before the October 1917 Revolution.
