Susan Anderson
ID: 7924
Видавництво: PowerHouse Books

High Glitz is a close-up and intimate look at America’s child beauty pageants, and in turn our society’s obsession with youth, beauty, fame, and fortune. Susan Anderson’s vibrant portraits of pageant contestants twist notions of sexuality and identity, with a new perspective on this uniquely American subculture.

High Glitz is a subgenre of child beauty pageants characterized by couture “glitz” costumes and a broad array of cosmetic preparations including, among other tricks of the trade: glamour makeup, elaborate hairstyles, and “flippers” (false front teeth veneers). Anderson’s stunning visuals are complimented by a “High Glitz Style Guide,” defining and providing examples of the following categories: Beauty/Formal Wear, Western Wear, Sportswear, and Swimwear, with a special section on hairstyles such as “the Barbie” and the “Up-do.”

Each year as many as 100,000 children under the age of 12 participate in U.S. child beauty pageants, and it has recently become a billion-dollar industry. Parents invest thousands of dollars on costumes and private coaches to give their children a competitive edge. Countless hours are spent by professional hair and makeup artists on each child in preparation for the competition. The girls are spray-tanned, made-up, and groomed to a glossy perfection. Anderson captures the results of this time-consuming transformation process in exquisite detail.

In just fifteen years, Hipgnosis (Storm Thorgerson, Aubrey Po Powell and Peter Christopherson) established themselves as the most important design collective in music history.

Their innovative cover art defines the albums of the biggest names of the late 1960s, 70s and early 80s: AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Peter Gabriel, The Police, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, T. Rex, Wings, Yes and XTC, to name just a few.

Their iconic designs including Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy grace a staggering number of major releases.

Their boundary-breaking conceptual approach earned them five Grammy nominations for package design, and their influence today can be seen in all creative fields from advertising to fashion.

This book is divided into two main sections:

Part I, 'Imagination', tells the story behind the cover artwork from germination through to the final sleeve design, supported by a wide array of archival materials and text from Aubrey Powell.
Part II, 'Realization', showcases the band portraits themselves, whether album covers or otherwise, in beautiful, large-scale reproductions. Both sections are arranged alphabetically and cross-referenced throughout.

George Rose
ID: 7940
Видавництво: Random House

Celebrity culture in the 1970s and 1980s, through the lens of an award-winning photojournalist.
As a young photographer working in Los Angeles in the 1970s and 1980s, George Rose had his shutter finger on the pulse of the Hollywood scene, documenting film premieres and award ceremonies, arena concerts and Sunset Strip nightclubs. From Oscar-winning actors and filmmakers to punk rockers and porn stars, this stylish book presents visual highlights from the New Hollywood renaissance, a golden era in movies, music, and scene-making. Reflecting the excess, drama, or humor in each subject, Rose's rich black-and-white photos capture famous faces and personalities of the day, whether Jack Nicholson or Debbie Harry, Truman Capote or Little Richard.

"Blessed with an uncanny instinct for being in the right place at the right time, Rose was always where the action was, as if you'd transplanted Weegee from the 1940s-era Bowery to the 1980s-era Sunset Strip. As this gallery of photos attests, whether Rose was in a tiny room at the Chateau Marmont or at the edge of the stage at a sold-out show at the Forum, he could always capture a revealing or unguarded moment." -- Patrick Goldstein, from the foreword

Andy Summers
ID: 3573
Видавництво: Taschen

The Police on tour photographed by guitarist Andy Summers

In the early 1980s, The Police went on tour accompanied by a photographer who documented the band behind the scenes in a series of candid and striking black and white photos. This talented photographer also happened to be the band’s guitarist, Andy Summers. Yes, it’s true - the man responsible for the guitar lick from "Every Breath You Take" was not only the backbone of one of the most popular bands of all time, he also possessed a visual gift for composition and mood that allowed him to capture the spirit of The Police better than anyone else could have.

This book, somewhere between photojournalism and an illustrated diary, follows The Police around the globe between 1980 and 1983. From the American West to Australia to Japan, Summers recorded not only the band members rehearsing and partying—the proverbial sex, drugs, and rock and roll - he also photographed fans, landscapes, still lifes, and passersby in a reportage style reminiscent of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank. Containing over 600 photos and filled with diary-style entries, I’ll Be Watching You is a sumptuous volume beating with musical energy, nostalgia, and atmospheric beauty. A must for photo buffs and Police fans alike.

Collector’s edition features:

Graham Nash
ID: 6125
Видавництво: Schirmer/Mosel Verlag

Graham Nash, geb.

Italo Zannier, Dennis Curti
ID: 7358
Видавництво: Rizzoli

Drawn from the archives of Italo Zannier, the "grand old man" of Italian photography, a teacher, collector and photographer himself, the over 260 images in this volume document the history of the "marvelous invention" from its beginnings to the tendencies of the present day, from the daguerreotypes of the late 19th century to the Italian neorealism of the thirties and forties, from the years of "la dolce vita" in Rome with its stars and paparazzi to the seventies and eighties when photography began to reflect on itself and its language through its first tentative experiments with disintegration of the image. A true story told in pictures, an incredible and gripping tale of Italy and of photography, the history of a burning passion that has driven Zannier to collect, catalog and preserve thousands of images and objects.
Italo Zannier (1932) has taught at the DAMS in Bologna, at the Department of the Cultural Heritage of Ravenna University and the Catholic University in Milan. He is a member of the Société Européenne d'Histoire de la Photographie and chair of the advisory board of the Museo di Storia della Fotografia Alinari in Florence. Zannier has also devoted himself to an intense exhibition activity, organizing dozens of events. In particular the one on the Mediterranean landscape staged in Seville during the 1992 Expo and the photographic section of Italian Metamorphosis, the major exhibition on Italian art held at the Guggenheim in New York in 1994. The author of over 500 scientific and publications and photographic books, he edits the series of studies of the history of photography "Fotologia," published by Alinari.

Greg Gorman
ID: 5716
Видавництво: Damiani

In his forty year career, Greg Gorman has seen miles of red carpet pass before his lens with a fine assortment of stars, from Al Pacino to Raquel Welch and on to Sharon Stone and John Travolta, just to name some of them. His unmistakable black and white, together with an equally rare capacity of introspection, has led to such virtuosity of style as to elicit from Richard Gere: “Greg Gorman is to the camera what Eric Clapton is to the guitar: sure and true”. Away from the spotlights for a moment Gorman has culled from his archives and put together a collection of more than 200 portraits of young men, many of whom became famous. An album that reveals the evergreen fascination of youth, when time has yet to obfuscate ingenuousness, melancholic gentleness and, above all, the beauty that characterises life’s âge d’or. The photographer writes in the introduction: “My photographs have often captured the sensuality that goes hand in hand with vulnerability. When the subject has an unawareness of the camera, he reveals an inward truth, that maybe he doesn’t even realize is coming forth in the pictures”. From Tom Cruise to Kevin Costner, from Leonardo di Caprio to Brad Pitt and on to Patrick Dempsey, Charlie Sexton, Rupert Everett, Johnny Depp and many others, In their Youth is a manifesto of the agonising, sensual and “Wildean" promise of beauty.

Two artists, one vision. The enigmatic and genre-defying work of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin

"It is typical of the photographic art of van Lamsweerde and Matadin that they urge their image-making to de-stabilise the pristine surfaces expected of consumer culture; to this end, they make use, in turn, of the Gothic, inscrutability, androgyny, comedy, eroticism, surrealism, fantasy, montage, cinema, replication, image manipulation, Pop art, fetishism and art historical nuance." — Michael Bracewell

Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s work has graced the walls and pages of some of the world’s finest galleries and fashion magazines, and if it is surprising that their photographs easily float between these worlds, it is by virtue of their ease in creating imagery that seeks homes in both culturally elite and mainstream outlets. For some of their photographs, such as their portrait of Björk or campaign for Givenchy, van Lamsweerde and Matadin have worked in collaboration with the art directors M/M (Paris), who have also designed this retrospective that looks back at "pretty much everything" that the photographers have been working on for over two decades and that has brought them to the forefront in the fields of both art and fashion.

This standard TASCHEN edition — an affordable version adapted from the limited edition — comes with a sheet of stickers so you can personalize your cover!

“This wondrous retrospective presents over two decades of witty, glamorous, and subversive images by Dutch photography duo van Lamsweerde and Matadin…the book will take pride of place in the collections of any fan of fashion and art photography.”
— Publisher’s Weekly, New York

“… 26 years of bold, inventive editorial and fashion work…like their subjects, the pictures are playful and dramatic in subtle ways and more memorable for it.”
— Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles

“Truly a collection for art historians to indulge... a piece of collectable and rare art in itself.”
— Dreaminggenius.com

“An indispensable work.”

James Dean died at the age of 24, yet half a century later his mystique is unfaded. Had luck favored him that fatal evening, he might still be with us, an actor in the same generation as Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman, and Sean Connery. His phenomenally charismatic performances in such classics as Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden have immortalized him as a cinematic great. Dean also had serious ambitions of becoming a writer-director, and it is haunting to imagine what he might have done if his life had not been cut short. He remains such icon of gifted youth: even 50 years after his death, we still look at James Dean in full suspense, wondering how he’s going to turn out.

The Movie Icon series: People talk about Hollywood glamour, about studios that had more stars than there are in heaven, about actors who weren't actors but were icons. Other people talk about these things, TASCHEN shows you. Movie Icons is a series of photo books that feature the most famous personalities in the history of cinema. These 192-page books are visual biographies of the stars. For each title, series editor Paul Duncan has painstaking selected approximately 150 high quality enigmatic and sumptuous portraits, colorful posters and lobby cards, rare film stills, and previously unpublished candid photos showing the stars as they really are. These images are accompanied by concise introductory essays by leading film writers; each book also includes a chronology, a filmography, and a bibliography, and is peppered with apposite quotes from the movies and from life.

Je t’aime...moi non plus. The Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg family album

The highly public love affair of French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg and British actress Jane Birkin captured the hearts and imaginations of a generation. The moment Jane and Serge met on a movie set in 1968, sparks flew. They would spend the next 12 years together, a passionate union that produced the controversial duet "Je t’aime... moi non plus" (whose explicit lyrics and orgasmic moans caused so much fuss that the Vatican declared it offensive) and, in 1971, the legendary album Melody Nelson as well as a daughter, Charlotte, who has become a successful actress in her own right. From the earliest days of Jane and Serge's romance until their split in 1980, Jane’s brother Andrew Birkin was a frequent presence in their lives; an avid photographer, he snapped thousands of candid family photos during those years. Birkin’s pictures — very few of which have ever been published — offer a rare view of daily life for the couple, bringing us back to a place and time we have long idolized. Though more than 30 years have passed since the two parted ways, and over two decades since Serge parted from this world, the passion for Jane and Serge has endured. This treasure trove is sure to fan the flames of its undying embers.

Designed by M/M (Paris), the photo album comes in a clear plastic cover with the following goodies tucked inside:

- Text booklet featuring an introduction by Jane Birkin and Andrew Birkin’s memoir of Jane and Serge, illustrated by Birkin family childhood photos
- Softcover contact sheet booklet
- Fold-out poster
- 5 photo prints
- Sticker sheet
- Embroidered patch

Sieff’s art testifies to his tireless quest to capture the fleeting beauty of “temps perdu,” or “time which cannot recur.”
