Paolo Pejrone, Dario Fusaro
ID: 17292
Издательство: Rizzoli

Ten gardens made in Italy by the most respected Italian garden architect: this is a book for lovers of greenery and the Italian landscape.

The ten gardens brought together in this book — located in different regions of Italy, from the wetlands of Piedmont to the gentle hills of Tuscany, from the lush Riviera to the sunny coasts of the South — reflect the variety of the Italian territory and its extraordinary biodiversity.

In his gardens, Paolo Pejrone tackles the task of designing greenery with great humility, placing himself at the service of nature and never vice versa. He respects the genius loci, plans seasonal blooms, prioritizes native plants, and studies exposure to sun and shade to minimize watering needs and make the most of the land's resources. In full harmony with the rhythm of nature, Pejrone's gardens are a manifesto of sobriety and sustainability.

The book offers the opportunity to see places not open to the public, including private gardens, some of which are new and previously unseen.

The partnership between Pejrone and the photographer Dario Fusaro started many years ago but still continues today. In addition to documenting the transformations of the ever-changing gardens over time, Fusaro photographs every new intervention by Pejrone. In this book he presents the most recent works by Pejrone, some of them completely new, with sweeping views and unexpected glimpses, taken from above with a drone or as macro photographs of flowers and plants.

About the Authors:

Paolo Pejrone is the most important Italian garden designer. As a young student, he worked with Russell Page in the United Kingdom and Roberto Burle-Marx in Brazil, who left a profound mark on his approach to garden and nature. Pejrone has worked throughout Italy but also abroad in France, Germany, Spain, the UK, and Saudi Arabia.

Dario Fusaro is a photographer specialized in gardens, architecture, and landscape, both natural and urban.

Toto Bergamo Rossi, Marco Bay
ID: 18092
Издательство: Marsilio Arte

Concealed, protected and hidden: these are the gardens of Venice, protagonists of the illustrated volume published by Marsilio Arte and edited by Toto Bergamo Rossi, director of the Venetian Heritage association with Marco Bay, landscape architect. The texts signed by the two authors of the book, accompanied by the evocative shots of Marco Valmarana, guide the reader to the discovery of these green gems, privileged places where nature, art and history are intertwined.

The volume is a real journey through the gardens of Venice, from the most sumptuous kept in the noble palaces overlooking the Grand Canal to the more vernacular ones of the islands of the lagoon, collected and presented systematically through indexing by districts. The spring flowering, the summer opulence, the colors of autumn, the fog and the winter frost are captured in a new way in a series of photos full of details and emotions, which reveal the secret Venetian green through the seasons.

About the Authors:

Toto Bergamo Rossi, formerly a specialist in the conservation of stone materials, has restored a number of important monuments in Italy. Since 2010 he has served as the director of Venetian Heritage. He is the author of Inside Venice (Rizzoli, 2016) and Venice and Its Doges (Rizzoli, 2023).

Dial Parrott
ID: 16286
Издательство: Rizzoli

An ideal volume for lovers of Venice and architecture aficionados, combining in-depth history of this singular city with more than 100 color photographs and maps. Of Venice’s many majestic spaces, none is as evocative and significant as the Piazza San Marco. An authoritative account of the development of the entire piazza complex, through which unfolds the history of the Republic in general, The Genius of Venice celebrates the city’s oldest and most important architectural site. Dial Parrott’s view of Venice is a heroic one. From their lagoon, the bold and calculating Venetians forged a city that stands today not merely as an attraction for millions, but as a testament to architectural genius: the epitome of what we now call New Urbanism and a shining example of Western communal art. Enhanced by more than 100 illustrations, The Genius of Venice presents the magnificent edifices of the piazza as, in the words of John Ruskin, the "living books of history" of this iconic urban environment.

About the Author:

Dial Parrott is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia who has worked as a journalist, teacher, and lawyer. He lives in Connecticut.

Edmund Hollander, Anne Raver
ID: 18374
Издательство: Monacelli Press

Edmund Hollander and Maryanne Connelly, two of New York's most eminent landscape designers, best known for their work in the Hamptons, reveal how plants can add sensuality, texture, structure, and color to any garden

Crisp hornbeam hedges lining a country drive and throwing geometric shadows on the gravel below. Decadent cascades of fragrant wisteria spilling over a stone pergola. Rustling leaves along an allée of delicate crepe myrtle trees. Waving blossoms of roses, sage, and hydrangeas - along a salty shoreline. Edmund Hollander Landscape Architects creates gardens filled with unexpected textures, colors, and sounds meant to appeal to all the senses, inviting us to truly live in the landscape.

This volume presents dozens of gorgeous estate gardens throughout the Northeast, approached thematically; individual sections reveal how components such as gateways, paths, pool terraces, bosques and groves, walls, and borders contribute to lush garden rooms, windblown seaside gardens, calming meadow gardens, intricate formal gardens, and shady tracts of woodland. Over 300 color photographs of beautiful properties in the Hamptons, Connecticut, and upstate New York provide glimpses of the best garden design happening today while breaking down its ideas for the home gardener.

Evocative text by New York Times and Landscape Architecture columnist Anne Raver details how the firm works to envelop visitors in landscapes that feel entirely whole: plantings near architecture create a dynamic entry progression; hardscape features that lead out into a broader garden gradually cede to more natural, living elements; pools are surrounded by gracious swaths of flowers that bloom in sequence as the season progresses to provide privacy for bathers and a sense of quiet seclusion. The ideas presented here will help owners of gardens of every size enjoy their land to the fullest.

About the Authors:

Edmund Hollander and Maryanne Connelly have been involved with environmental planning and design projects for over twenty-five years. Since founding Edmund Hollander Design in 1989, they have designed gardens and landscapes at every scale in the Hamptons, Long Island’s north shore, Connecticut, Westchester, New Jersey, Virginia, the United Kingdom, and the Caribbean. Hollander Design projects have appeared in numerous publications including the New York TimesArchitectural Digest, and House Beautiful, as well as in numerous books on landscapes and gardens.

The firm was awarded the 2006 American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award in residential design and the 2012 Stanford White Award in Landscape Architecture from the Institute for Classical Architecture, and has won numerous awards from the New York chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects as well as the New York and Connecticut chapters of the American Institute of Architects. Gil Schafer III, Bunny Williams
ID: 8875
Издательство: Rizzoli

Acclaimed architect Gil Schafer illustrates how he blends classical architecture, interior decoration, and landscape to create homes with a feeling of history. As a traditional architect, Gil Schafer specializes in building new "old" houses as well as renovating historic homes. His work takes the best of American historic and classical architecture - its detailed moldings and harmonious proportions - and updates it, retaining its character and detail while simultaneously reworking it to be more in tune with the way we live now - comfortable, practical, family-oriented. In his first book, Schafer covers the three essential cornerstones of creating a great traditional house: architecture, landscape, and decoration. He discusses the important interplay between the interior architecture and the fabrics, furniture, and wall treatments. In-depth profiles build on these essays, including Schafer’s own new "old" house in the Hudson Valley; the renovation of a historic home in Nashville designed by Charles Platt in 1915; and the restoration of a magnificent 1843 Greek Revival mansion in Charleston. Filled with hundreds of interior and detail shots, The Great American House is an invaluable resource for anyone who loves old houses and traditional design.

About the Authors:

Award-winning architect and AD 100 member Gil Schafer is consistently recognized as one of the world’s experts on contemporary classical architecture. From 1999 to 2006, Schafer served as president and then chairman of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America. Bunny Williams is an acclaimed interior designer and the author of four books, including An Affair with a House.

Oscar Riera Ojeda, James Moore McCown
ID: 17256
Издательство: Rizzoli

Featuring innovative home offices that are inventive, accessible, and often wonderfully serene, this book is a rich source of ideas and inspirations embracing the call to work from home!

Pavilions, sheds, studios, extensions — call them what you will, architects around the globe are experimenting with attached or detached workplaces and creating imaginative ateliers that strain the limits of “miniature”; one is just 100 square feet. It is a worldwide adventure in architectural experimentation and originality.

Organized organically, much like the eco-sensitive structures shown here that only very lightly touch the land, the book allows a reader to meander happily into and out of ideas and space-sensitive solutions for writers, painters, accountants, ceramicists, and individuals of all stripes in need of spaces to think, to work, and to wonder. From a scholar’s library study in upstate New York that reduces an enclosed shelter down to its most spartan modernist roots to a weathered steel-clad extension in London humorously dubbed “Brexit Bunker,” featured examples are splendidly diverse expressions of the creative use of space toward an end of inspiration and productivity.

We can work, study, and dream at a pace that responds to our individual needs in places that inspire us and fill us with delight — that is the goal…and the lesson to be learned here.

Diane Keaton, Photographs by Lisa Romerein
ID: 16086
Издательство: Rizzoli

At once a style guide, an inspirational tome, and a how-to volume on creating one’s home, this book will serve as a go-to reference for all those seeking to spur their own creativity as they embark on the creation of home. When Diane Keaton decided that she wanted to build her own home from the ground up, she took the advice of her dear friend, film director Nancy Meyers, and took to the boards of Pinterest to find inspiration. There she discovered the practical and the fantastical, elements and styles long adored and ones that she never knew she was drawn to. Keaton’s dream house was officially under way and this book that resulted is a compelling account of her that house, from idea to realization in brick, stone, and wood.

The House that Pinterest Built defines what home and house mean to the celebrated movie star, who is known for her love affair with houses and design. Filled with ideas that reveal a personal yet engaging aesthetic, this volume includes compelling photos from Keaton’s past homes and those she admires, as well as a multitude of details from every corner of those spaces and objects that excite and inspire the house designer and dreamer — dramatic staircases and magical light fixtures, film stills and book covers, pottery and art — drawn from the visual treasure trove known as Pinterest and Keaton’s private collection, as she creates and designs her newest house.

Rich imagery is accompanied by Keaton’s ideas for selecting furniture, kitchen layout, and bedroom design; she talks about the importance of lighting in the bathroom and why the living room needs to be reimagined. Beyond the interior, she explores curb appeal and environmental sensitivity, always with an eye to making home the way it should be — a place of tranquility, a place where one is restored and where one returns to dream again and again. The book culminates in the dream realized, the house she has imagined, designed, and made, now shared with the world for the first time in all-new photography.

If you want to explore. If you love to see. If you’re looking to look; this book is an example of a home made from the gifts of other people’s addictive yearnings for the perfect home, with the perfect landscape and the perfect interior. It illustrates my choices of your choices. Who knows, you might find one of your pins here. You might smile. You might shake your head and say, ‘This isn’t what I had in mind.’ You might think: ‘Hey that’s my kitchen. She copied my kitchen.’ But the truth is, as much as I tried, I could never entirely recreate the light filled photograph of a kitchen that led the way to the journey that brought me here. No one can.” – Diane Keaton

Foreword by Kate Markert, Contributions by Wilfred Zeisler and Megan J. Martinelli and Jason Speck
ID: 15716
Издательство: Rizzoli

A celebration of philanthropist Marjorie Merriweather Post’s passions for her residences and personal collections, reflecting centuries of some of the finest treasures in the world.

Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887–1973) was an extraordinary person, not only for being the head of a major corporation but also for overseeing elegant and well-run residences and amassing collections of astounding beauty. Including portraiture, imperial Russian tableware, Fabergé creations, stunning garments and jewelry, books, and rare objects in gold, silver, and porcelain, Post’s works of art were acquired with intelligence and acuity. She was inspired by past royal and aristocratic patrons as well as countries that she admired: France, Russia, England, and Austria.

This publication illustrates the evolution of Post’s collections and her interactions with dealers, artists, artisans, and architects. The backdrops for her treasures — residences in New York, the Adirondacks, Palm Beach, and Washington, D.C. — are depicted with period and newly commissioned photography. Recent scholarship focusing on the highlights of her trove of exquisite objects sheds new light on Post’s legacy as a twentieth-century collector.

Martinelli is the associate curator of textiles, apparel, jewelry, and accessories at Hillwood. Jason G. Speck is Hillwood’s head of archives and special collections.
