William Abranowicz, Zander Abranowicz
ID: 13132
Издательство: Vendome Press

Who are the American Originals? They are photographer William Abranowicz’s pantheon of extraordinary subjects — artists, poets, rock stars, designers, heirs and heiresses, tastemakers, architects, designers — for whom the home represents the ultimate canvas of self-expression. In this lavish volume of more than 225 photographs, including many never-before-published images, Abranowicz invites us into the private spaces of extraordinary and fiercely authentic individuals, as seen through his inimitable eye.

Whether he’s capturing the cathedral-like quality of natural light in a New York City loft or taking readers to a rock ’n’ roll icon’s remote Gothic mansion on an otherwise deserted island, Abranowicz’s classical sensibility for light, form, and composition mingles with his innate curiosity and sense of humour, producing stunning, unconventional portraits of the living spaces and workplaces of larger-than-life Americans and European expats.

The images feature the homes of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Bette Midler and Martin von Haselberg, John Mellencamp, John Derian, Frederico de Vera, Jeffrey Bilhuber, Robert Couturier, Linda Rodin, Cliff Fong, Mayer Rus, and many more. The text recounts Abranowicz’s personal interactions with his subjects and their homes, and muses on voyeurism, decoration, and honesty in design.

Meticulously crafted and lavishly produced, American Originals is a profound meditation on the interaction between people, place, and space by one of the world’s great working photographers. It is sure to be an essential source of inspiration not only for decorating and interior design but also for ways of living authentically and creatively in the modern world.

Amsterdam Design 1900–1930 In the early 20th century, two movements emerged that were to define Dutch design of the early 20th century: de Stijl (the Style) and de Amsterdamse School (the Amsterdam School). De Stijl was the minimal and modernist of the two.

De Amsterdamse School, on the other hand, broke with rational convention and allowed for the frivolous use of ornament. Amsterdam 1900–1930 contains a visual guide to the design methodology used by graphic designers, architects and artists at the time and hundreds of examples of designs from the first three decades of the 20th century.

CD with designs included.

This book is dedicated to unusual landscapes and architecture from around the world. Often amusing and sometimes downright bizarre, the buildings featured in this book possess both a quirky sense of fun as well as being environmentally friendly. Each chapter deals with a different aspect of modern architecture and also shows how each 'amusing' structure has been specifically designed to be sustainable and ecologically sound. "The Landscape Series" is a compilation of volumes featuring projects that show a strong ecological conscience and innovation in working with the landscape in order to produce architectural structures that are both beautiful and sustainable.

Bunny Williams, Christine Pittel
ID: 10818
Издательство: Abrams

For 28 years the world-renowned interior designer Bunny Williams has been involved in a passionate love affair with an 18th-century New England manor house that she found in sad repair.

From the moment she walked up the driveway and her palms began to perspire, Williams knew she wanted the affair to last forever. In her sumptuous new book, An Affair with a House, the venerable decorator describes in detail how she and her husband, antiques dealer John Rosselli, rescued, nurtured, renovated, and decorated the well-worn house, giving it new life as they restored each room, resurrected the abandoned gardens, and filled this weekend home with family and friends.

Through photographs, anecdotes, how-tos, and recipes, Williams provides a rare inside look at a top decorator's retreat and explains how she approached the joys, pleasures, challenges, obstacles, and day-to-day realities of creating a beautiful, comfortable country home. An Affair with a House provides a wealth of advice on interior decor and such topics as mixing design styles, but it also addresses such practical matters as stocking the pantry and outfitting the linen closet.

Beautiful photographs of the house, the gardens, and the property's rustic structures provide an intimate glimpse of the couple's lifestyle and illustrate a way of life we can all appreciate and learn from.

Nikolaus Pevsner, Michael Forsyth
ID: 4838
Издательство: Thames & Hudson

For over sixty years Sir Nikolaus Pevsner’s study of European architecture has been regarded as a seminal work which has inspired countless students of architecture. In this updated larger format edition with elegant and accessible design, an extra dimension is provided through the integration of over 200 superb colour photographs.

Pevsner reviewed the most beautiful, dramatic and outstanding structures that represent the styles and cultures of Europe from the fourth century onwards. His grand tour of Europe’s Romanesque basilicas, Gothic cathedrals, Renaissance villas and Baroque churches, sublimely defines ‘the changing spirits of the changing ages’.

In later chapters, he considers the revival of medieval forms in the age of Romanticism and the Arts and Crafts Movement through to the radical and unsparing geometry of twentieth-century Modernism. He concluded his survey in the post-war years and the start of the redefinition of so many devastated cityscapes.

In a new preface and an illuminating postscript, the architect Michael Forsyth continues where Pevsner left off by bringing the review to the present day. In a consideration of recent buildings in Europe by modern masters such as James Stirling, Norman Foster and Frank Gehry, he identifies a natural evolution of architectural achievement.

An Outline of European Architecture continues to be as stimulating and relevant as ever. Through his perceptive understanding of the heritage of past civilisations, and in the delineation of the buildings that continue to be recognized as the greatest symbols of artistic endeavour, Pevsner remains the essential guide and companion.

Sir Nikolaus Pevsner (1902–1983) is considered by many to have been the most influential writer on the history of architecture in the twentieth century.
Michael Forsyth is an architect and Director of Studies at the University of Bath.
