AGENDA is a catalog of 365 days, like a diary or journal: a collective narrative, personal and subjective. It documents the work and thinking of JDS Architects over a specific year marked by crisis, beginning on September 15th, 2008, the day that Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy. The form of the book exploits the double meaning of its title, presenting the absurdities of day-to-day architectural practice while also staking our intent. Rather than a definitive direction, our agenda is a definitive attitude - of eagerness, enthusiasm, and optimism, of criticality and concern, of fun and inquiry. It is a directive, a motivation to act, at times without clear knowledge of where our agenda will lead. “Change,” the buzzword of the last U.S. presidential campaign, is the order of the day, and the task of AGENDA is to explore what kind of change will be needed if architects are to assume a political and social agency in this new landscape. Bringing together diverse forms of content, AGENDA is a product of vigilant observation, introspection, and engagement with outside thinkers and collaborators - artists, curators, politicians, authors, economists, journalists, developers, educators, and architects.

AGENDA is a record of search and research, providing more questions than answers.
AGENDA is unapologetically naive.
AGENDA is an unorthodox architecture novel.
AGENDA demystifies the practice of architecture, revealing process, research, fun, and failure.
AGENDA looks to both the past and the future.

ARCHITECTURE IS POLITICAL
The buildings of the foremost Chinese architect of our time

Chinese concept artist Ai Weiwei broke through to fame with a wider audience in Germany with his spectacular presence at documenta in 2007. More recently his hundred million porcelain sunflower seeds at Tate Modern caught the imagination of the public. But Ai Weiwei's architectural projects have attracted less attention to date. He sees architecture as arguably the most political of the art forms. Daab's new richly-illustrated book Ai Weiwei. Architecture is the perfect publication to fill the need...

The dream of flying has preoccupied man since time immemorial. The fascination of discoverig distant destinations and overcoming distances quickly resulted in the demand to optimize traveling times from the aspect of comfort. Meanwhile, airline companies offer their passengers a wealth of on-board possibilities: Releaxing sleep in a bed above the clouds, internet connection, or bars. Functionality only turns into a finished contemporary interior as a result of the designed shapes, materials and colours. Starting with the choice of material to the development of an artificial starry heaven inside the cabin, which counteracts against jetlag, everything is taken into consideration while designing the cabin, making the time the passenger spends travling, more pleasant. This book will show the most impressive and innovative 40 examples around Aircraft Interiors in big and small, private and business jets.

Издательство: Rizzoli

Every generation an extraordinary figure captures the imagination of the design public, allowing us to dream and see what is heretofore impossible. That man of the moment is Alan Faena.

Raised in the restrictive regimes of 1960s Argentina, Alan Faena came of age when the country opened up to the West and Alan transformed himself into the icon of this new spirit, first as the founder of a popular Argentine fashion company, then as the hotelier of the highly sought-after FAENA hotels, in Buenos Aires and Miami. In each of the two cities Alan Faena did not simply build a hotel, but a whole universe of luxury design by working with the best talents of the day: Philippe Starck, Rem Koolhaas, Norman Foster, Damian Hirst, and the film director Baz Luhrmann, among others. The results are immersive dream places, full of color, life, and high design.

In this revealing memoir, profusely illustrated with images of the hotels and Alan's private homes and retreats as well as his famous and beautiful friends, Alan Faena details how his ambition to create beauty was realized with gorgeous interiors and restaurants, lavish gardens and pools, and the very best that can be dreamt of.

About the Author:

Alan Faena came of age in Buenos Aires during the exuberant days after the fall of Argentina's military dictatorship, which propelled him into a successful career as a fashion model then as a fashion designer before going into hotels.

Leon Krier

Architect Léon Krier asks, “Can a war criminal be a great artist?” Speer, Adolf Hitler's architect of choice, happens to be responsible for one of the boldest architectural and urban oeuvres of modern times.

First published in 1985 to an acute and critical reception, Albert Speer: Architecture 1932-1942 is a lucid, wide-ranging study of an important neoclassical architect. Yet is is simultaneously much more: a philosophical rumination on art and politics, good and evil. With aid from a new introduction by influential American architect Robert A. M. Stern, Krier candidly confronts the great difficulty of disentangling the architecture and urbanism of Albert Speer from its political intentions.

Krier bases his study on interviews with Speer just before his death. The projects presented center on his plan for Berlin, an unprecedented modernization of the city intended to be the capital of Europe.

Alberto Pinto is among the most celebrated interior designers at work today and is known primarily for his highly creative use of color and texture to achieve the effect of unparalleled opulence.

Here, Pinto turns his attention to intimate and personal spaces. Pinto succeeds in giving each of the forty bedrooms in this book his unequaled touch of grandeur while evoking its owner's personality. Under Pinto's direction, the bedroom becomes a fantasy-like oasis adorned with water elements, fine damasks, gorgeously colored mosaics, fancy brocades, or neo-classical columns.

The resulting rooms are contemporary bedrooms — some more appropriately described as suites rather than single rooms — from Europe and North America that evoke a spectrum of classical styles updated for the finest in twenty-first century living.

Alberto Pinto's bedrooms are spaces that are grand and yet intimate. Each one will be an inspiration to anyone who is designing or redecorating a bedroom.

With an international clientele - among whom may be numbered royalty, giants of industry, and leaders of state - it is no wonder that interior designer and decorator of renown Alberto Pinto feels himself best suited to the shadows - albeit the shadows of the great.

From this privileged position, he subtly shapes lifestyles and, to a certain extent, the images of princes. In Alberto Pinto: Classics, author Philippe Renaud offers us an intimate glimpse of Pinto's world, a world of exquisite luxury and opulence, a world in which, by Pinto's hand, elegance and abundance are brought to balance in harmonious accord. We are shown the magnificent interiors of apartments in New York, mansions in Paris, villas on the Riviera, country houses in England, and palaces in Cairo.

We are also brought to a ranch in the deserts of New Mexico and to the ocean-side hills of Long Islands elegant Hamptons. Here we find Pintos cultivated but decidedly eclectic approach to design - an indirect result, perhaps, of his having grown up in post-colonial Casablanca. His roots are Moroccan - under the certain influence of Paris. Of course, his work is more than this: it is an amalgam of British chic, French elegance, and American rationalism; it is a manipulation of classical styles with a twist; it is frequently a brilliantly daring tendency to juxtaposition and apparent paradox in which a surrealistic painting by Magritte might hang below a Neoclassical bust - all of this ultimately resounding in an affirmation of Alberto Pinto as the interior designer and decorator of choice.

In this sumptuous book, Alberto Pinto excels at creating a perfect harmony of volume and space by bringing fresh inspiration to established design principles. He assembles an unprecedented range of styles by merging his client’s tastes with his own flair for creativity.

With an unobstructed view of a white sandy beach and shimmering turquoise water, a sprawling apartment in the exclusive Ipanema enclave of Rio de Janeiro is decorated in subdued earth tones, punctuated by animal prints and vibrant works of modern art. The interior of a classical orientalist residence in Kuwait reveals elaborate marble tile and wood details, while more modern spaces are furnished predominantly in black and white with judiciously placed accents in red. The details in a Monaco apartment subtly remind us that the home is perched above the Mediterranean Sea, while an ornate white-and-blue residence in New York is distinctly European in its rich use of antique furniture, ceramics, and ornate moldings. Other striking and sublime spaces include a palace in Riyadh and a home in Santa Rita, as well as grand yachts and private jets.

Pinto’s Parisian workshop, where his exceptional furniture and tableware can be purchased, is also featured.

Alberto Pinto is one of the most highly acclaimed interior designers working today. Pinto has published numerous monographs on various aspects of his work, including Table Settings, Moderns, Orientalism, Bedrooms, Classics, Contemporary Offices, and Alberto Pinto Today.
Julien Morel is a lifestyle and design writer at a leading communications and PR agency in Paris.
