Henrietta Spencer-Churchill
ID: 1639
Издательство: Rizzoli

Having worked in period interiors for all her successful transatlantic career, Henrietta Spencer-Churchill turns to her key area of expertise: architectural detail and how to incorporate period details into your own home.

This comprehensive guide to the best of three centuries of the most enduring decorating styles explains and illustrates the distinguishing characteristics, from both European and American periods, from the Baroque to the end of the nineteenth century. Henrietta shows how architectural elements of these classic decorating styles can be adapted and used in the home today to produce her trademark understated grandeur.

Divided by period, each section begins with a beautifully illustrated introduction and chronology of interior styles, with a guide to the history, nature, and most enduring aspects of the time. Covering both architectural and furnishing detail, photographs and artworks illustrate the best of period features and schemes from real homes, and Henrietta shows how to use influences from the past to create a period feel. Using beautiful interiors from around the world, the book covers every detail from grand Regency marble columns to lavish Baroque-inspired cushions.

Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill is the elder daughter of the 11th Duke of Marlborough, whose family home is Blenheim Palace. Her interest in interior design began when at the age of 16 she travelled to study fine art and languages in Florence and Paris. Later she returned to England to finish her formal studies at the world-famous Inchbald School of Design.

In recent years, the kitchen has undergone a real metamorphosis.

This room has become one of the most important places in the home, providing space not only for cooking, but also for many other activities: eating, working, receiving guests...

The best multi-purpose kitchens effortlessly combine these many different facets, with designs by interior architects and kitchen designers that manage to transcend the purely utilitarian character of the kitchen.

A great deal of attention is paid to the ergonomics of the sink and cooking areas and to creating practical (often fully integrated) storage space, but the other aspects of the kitchen are just as important: a space to have breakfast or lunch, a place where the children can do their homework or simply somewhere to relax.

This completely new publication (2007-2008) features the most recent kitchen projects by leading interior specialists and kitchen designers. There is also a strong emphasis on high-quality kitchen equipment, including exclusive cookers, hobs and large refrigerators.

All of the kitchens in this book are designed in a timeless, country style. A companion title focusing on minimalist, modern kitchens is being published simultaneously: CONTEMPORARY KITCHENS

Lars Sjoberg, Ingalill Snitt
ID: 6334
Издательство: Frances Lincoln

Lars Sjöberg is one of Sweden's national treasures. He is as widely known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of Sweden's historic houses as he is for his passionate concern to preserve them. Presented here are the eight houses (and one church) that he has acquired over forty years, many of which he bought in order to save them from being demolished. They range from a miniature Baroque manor house to an imposing Italianate Neoclassical villa, from a late 17th-century aristocratic mansion to the two-room dwellings of early 19th-century smelting workers.
Each house tells a story giving an insight into why it was built and how it changed with succeeding generations. Each has been lovingly photographed by Ingalill Snitt. Text and pictures combine to show how the appealing style that has come to be recognized as quintessentially Swedish developed from its roots in the late 17th century to flower in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Here are the pale wood floors and muslin curtains, the elegant Gustavian furniture, the gleaming gilded mirrors, the charming painted wall decorations and the simple sprigged or striped fabrics, used in entirely authentic interiors.
An art historian and a museum curator, Sjoberg is also a superb self-taught craftsman who believes ardently in the value of learning from the past to preserve the future. His principles are borne out by the meticulous way in which he has restored and conserved his houses. His first and most complex undertaking was the manor of Regnaholm. Built in the 1770s, redecorated in the early years of the 19th century and unoccupied for about forty years when he took it on in 1966, it allowed him to experiment with interior decoration and refurnishing. He has built on this knowledge over the decades, reproducing furniture, having fabrics rewoven and reprinted and lighting and even porcelain copied. This book is a ravishingly beautiful, deeply personal summary of everything Lars Sjöberg has learnt in his years of working and living with classic Swedish interiors.

John B. Murray
ID: 10310
Издательство: Monacelli Press

Architect John B. Murray creates residences that harmonize the past with the present through stunning, meticulous design, from Fifth Avenue apartments to restored farmhouses in New England and Upstate New York to weekend getaways on Long Island Sound. He harbors a deep love of the principles of traditional architecture, while always embracing contemporary life. Through his mastery of classical detail and his profound commitment to quality in every aspect of architecture, Murray translates his clients’ ideas of home, comfort, and refinement into physical form.

In this richly illustrated collection of eighteen country and city residences, Murray reveals his design approach through engaging prose and drawings. For each project, he creates the traditional Beaux-Arts drawing known as the analytique, which brings together all of the significant elements of a design in a harmonious and balanced whole. Classical Invention reproduces these exquisitely hand-drawn studies alongside stunning photographs of each home.

Twenty-six inspiring projects created by leading architects and interior specialists are introduced here under the title of CLASSICAL LIVING.

This is a label that can be applied to many different homes: houses in the countryside, built with reclaimed materials, painstakingly restored farmhouses, grand town houses, a minimally designed villa where antiques and design go hand in hand, a house by the sea, furnished in a contemporary classic style,... the list goes on.

In spite of the significant differences between the projects presented in this book, there are some themes that keep recurring: the consistent choice of quality products, the respect for traditional craftsmanship and individually customised work and the sophisticated use of colours, textures and materials in a serene and pleasant living environment.

Without a touch of nostalgia, all of these reports show the harmonious association and integration of elements of the present and the past to form a new, contemporary whole.

"Cloudehill: A Year in the Garden" tells the story of Cloudehill one of Australia's finest gardens and nurseries. Located at the top of Melbourne's Dandenong ranges, Cloudehill is inspired by the famous Arts & Crafts gardens of England and features some 20 garden compartments threaded through glorious 80-year-old European beech, magnolias, maples and a collection of fabulous Himalayan tree rhododendrons. Intertwined with this family history are intimate diary entries paralleling the gardening year and allowing an unforgettable insight into his passionate relationship with the land. Francis' account of his ownership of Cloudehill follows, providing extraordinary details of the more technical aspects of the iconic garden, including plantings, structural design, experiments and failures, the triumphs and disappointments associated with gardening, supplemented with detailed colour photographs. This multi-layered book is not just for gardening enthusiasts. Francis' charming anecdotes about his family, his childhood, farming and his deep insights into the bonds between man and the land will surprise and enchant all readers.

In this book, the doors of clubs and bars open somewhere between darkness and light, night and day, the interior and the outside world, and they create an atmosphere that, in the pursuit of comfort, normally adopts the from of houses and mansions, catering to as many circumstances and as many people as possible. Here antagonisms and contradictions find a balance that escapes all sense and meaning, like life itself, with our actions determined by the objects around us and constant looks from other people: the fleeting magic and spontaneity of theater, the ethereal and infinite space built by a voice whispering caressingly, gently, seemingly without breathing.

Spaces designed for leisure are each day surpassing their predecessors in boldness and originality. Architects in recent years have been able to more freely express their full creative potential in the use of idioms, new materials and singular forms, creating distinct, almost theatrical, atmospheres in nightclubs. There has been a tendency toward making each work a reference in itself, in giving it that distinctive mark which sets it apart from the rest. These are spaces that people enjoy frequenting not only for the music, drinks or good food, but also because of an architecture which has been meticulously and expressly designed for a given place. The architects have displayed an understanding of the concept that customers must feel drawn by these spaces, that they should feel they have come to a special place - a refuge where they can expect to find friends or where they can simply have a drink after work. The act of socializing requires, to a certain extent, a context in which customers can feel at ease, knowing they are in the "best" place they could be. Special care taken in lighting, good views and the search for a unique aesthetic is shown in the works presented in this volume: a selection of 23 of the latest and most innovative projects designed by internationally renowned architects, including the likes of Simone Micheli, 3deluxe, Tag Front and Ora-’ito Studio. This is an indispensable volume for exploring the latest architectonic tendencies in this field, from the most respected firms, with a wide range of floor plans and construction details for a more complete understanding of the finished project, as well as work methods and materials.
