About the Author:

Jennifer Boles was one of the first bloggers on the design scene, in 2008, with The Peak of Chic. She has won the “Best Writing on a Design Blog” award at the Design Bloggers Hall of Fame in Los Angeles, and been profiled in the New York Times, Elle Décor, and Town & Country, among other publications. Boles frequently lectures at design centers, museums, and show houses around the country. In a 2013 article about Ms. Boles in the New York Times, Stephen Drucker observed, “Jennifer isn’t the usual facile love-love-love decorating blogger.” Mr. Drucker then added, “She’s a serious student of decorating history. About the Author:

Avi Friedman is a professor of architecture at McGill University, Canada, an honorary professor at Lancaster University, UK, and president of Avi Friedman Consultants, Inc., a design firm with a focus on affordable and sustainable residential environments. He has written fourteen books and his design work and projects have been cited in magazines, newspapers and TV shows, including Good Morning America, Dream Builders and Stewart Brand’s How Buildings Learn. In 2000, Wallpaper* included him in their list of ten people ‘most likely to change the way we live’.

This book traces the main influences on interior design from medieval times to modern day. It gives a simple explanation of each style and its history while also looking at the style in a modern context, and gives a visual guide as to how to create the style.

Each chapter starts with an accessible and clear introduction to each style, placing it in its historical context and outlining the factors that influenced the development of the style. An artwork from the period showing the decoration of a room gives an authentic view of how these elements would have been incorporated in interiors at the time.

Most of the pictures are taken by our photographers like Xiao Kaixiong, who initiates a special trip to Xi’an in China and regions in Japan and America.
