Rachel Ashwell
ID: 8684
Издательство: Ryland Peters & Small / CICO books

Welcome to Rachel Ashwell's world: as beautiful as it is comfortable, as inspiring and spontaneous as it is practical and personal. Here Rachel shares her inspirations and her humour, celebrates the charm of the old and demonstrates how interiors touched with her magic transcend fashionable trends. Rachel takes us to homes in the US – from a shabby shack on Malibu's oceanfront to a ranch on the wide, open spaces of Texas, to the wooded hills of the Catskills and to Sharon Osbourne's Hollywood home – and in the UK – from a houseboat and a city townhouse to a centuries old manor house deep in the country, and her own London flat. All the houses, regardless of size or location, embody Rachel's ethos and share the same qualities: a respect for beautiful objects from the past, an extravagant sense of comfort and an eye for the unexpected. All are inviting, artistic, soulful, beautiful and perfectly imperfect.

About the Author:

Rachel Ashwell is a self-made businesswoman who founded the iconic brand known as Shabby Chic in 1989 when, as a single mother of two young children, she looked to open a small shop where she could sell ‘pretty things’ without spending much time or distance away from her children. Rachel opened her first store on trendy Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, California and now has a brand that is known worldwide.

This is a journey in pictures and words, following Rachel through the fields of a little town called Round Top, home to one of the largest, most eclectic and vibrant antiques and flea markets in the world, and then back to Rachel's newly acquired bed-and-breakfast in Texas.

Here Rachel's inspired finds, her creative imagination, eye for detail and her commitment to beauty, comfort and function have finally come together in one location: The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell an irresistible destination.

This book takes Rachel in a new direction, bringing her eye for cherished patinas and pastel prettiness into the endless landscapes and diverse architectural styles of Texas. Here you will see how her style adapts to corrugated metal sheeting and weathered timbers and how it brings new life to elegant period mansions.

Chapter by chapter, the book leads you through Rachel's little houses on the prairie, from the Ranger's Lounge where hearty breakfasts are served, to the Pearl Barn, scene of wedding parties and celebrations, stopping off at the evocatively named guest accommodation: Blue Bonnet Barn, Cornflower Cottage, Meadow Manor, Faith Cottage and Liliput Lodge.

Discover Rachel Ashwell’s floral inspirations and the unique touch she brings to interiors in her first book dedicated to flowers, a deeply-held passion come to life.

Flowers and floral decoration are at the core of Rachel Ashwell’s world and her designs. From her showcase rose garden in California, she set out with photographer Amy Neunsinger to capture the full-blown romance of the quintessential English country house, the dramatic colourways of northern Europe, and the faded opulence of a Parisian apartment. This is the story of that magical journey, which takes us through a variety of beautiful spaces large and small, some ornate and others simple. Every aspect of floral accents is showcased, from wallpaper to fabrics, floors to ceilings, architectural details, lighting and, of course, flower arrangements, some breathtaking and some simple… but all beautiful in their own right.

Often described as Prince Charles's favourite architect, Quinlan Terry is at home in every traditional style, from Classical Greek to Roman, Gothic to Renaissance, and Baroque to Neo-classical. With intense new interest in classical design, there is a high demand for a compilation of Terry's work, a volume that showcases the ideas and creations of one of the world's most daring traditionalist designers.

At the pinnacle of his career — this year's winner of the Driehaus Prize, classical architecture's highest honour — Quinlan Terry is one of the most celebrated practitioners of the form and also perhaps the most radical.

Radical Classicism contains hundreds of lavish colour illustrations and thirty of Terry's designs, including staterooms at Downing Street #10, a library and residential building at Cambridge University, a cathedral in Essex, a church in Bishopsgate, four buildings in Williamsburg, Va., townhouses in London, and ten large country houses in England, Germany, and the U.S. Buildings featured include Juniper Hill in Buckinghamshire; Ionic Villa, Corinthian Villa, and Regency Villa in Regents Park, London; Abercrombie House in Kentucky; Latourette Farm, New Jersey; Highland Park House, Dallas, Texas.

• light and colour
• movement
• order and objects
• interaction
• new contexts
• urban interventions
• narrative
Each chapter is illustrated with works by such internationally known designers and architects as Janis Hall, Fernando Caruncho, Adriaan Geuze, Reiser + Umemoto, Peter Walker and Makoto Sei Watanabe. A comprehensive and challenging evaluation of the present and a compendium of ideas for the future, Radical Landscapes suggests a rich and unexpected variety of ways in which we might interact dynamically and in harmony with the great outdoors.

Societal and economic transitions have left numerous buildings redundant. Thanks to the esteem enjoyed by any sort of historic building fabric, an increasing awareness of sustainability issues as well as economic considerations, unused structures are now frequently being examined to determine what kind of new use might be suitable. These considerations take place in an area of tension between the poles of functional use of existing architecture as raw material, conscious inclusion of historical significance and radical new architectural interpretations.

This volume presents more than 100 projects from around the world which are distinguished by a change of function they have undergone: from a police station to a cinema, from a bunker to an office, from a transformer station to a synagogue and from a swimming pool to an art center, among other creative re-uses. The innovative buildings and spaces are therefore emerging with layers superimposed on top of one another; the original function usually still provides the scale and structure, into which a new matrix of utilization is installed.

The ultimate inspiration for anyone wanting to foster their own style

Here is a collection of ‘real homes’ that are a reflection of their owners’ personalities rather than a homage to current trends.

Through her sensitive and perceptive photographs, Solvi dos Santos shows how to make living spaces that satisfy fundamental needs, but are also private works of beauty and self-expression, whether a warehouse
in Paris, a converted church in the Hudson Valley, New York, or a farmhouse in Ibiza.

So how do you create a stylish home of your very own? Real Homes takes you through room by room and shows you spaces that are original, functional and aesthetically pleasing, whether through the mixing of materials, periods or genres. What oozes from the pages is an effortless style and a sense of everyday living – pertinent today when many of us are looking at ways to live more simply.

With hundreds of beautiful photographs accompanied by texts from Phyllis Richardson, this book resonates with bold imagination and a refreshingly broad vision of design, appealing to everyone who is seeking inspiration and a source of ideas for creating a home that breaks away from the stereotypical, sterile approach – one that is both a place with spirit and has that essential spirit of place.

200 illustrations, 173 in colour

In France, just as modern taste is turning to the natural shapes and materials of country furniture, utensils and textiles, the old rural ways of life seem to be disappearing.

There are places, however, far from the big cities and the tourist trails, where they can still be found, and Marie-France Boyer has travelled far and wide to seek them out. With her sensitivity for the extraordinary in the everyday, she describes these working interiors and the people who live in them, presenting a series of wonderful photographs - most taken especially for this book of kitchens and stove corners, living rooms and bedrooms, odd souvenirs and family mementoes.

The people who follow the old country ways are now in their seventies and older. Their homes are functional and mostly very frugal. They use the utensils, baskets and smoke-blackened pots that their parents and their grandparents used before themstill calling them by their local names. Ancient family tables and long-case clocks jostle with refrigerators and televisions; plastic lace and1950s wallpaper can be seen alongside the traditional striped mattress ticking, flowery eiderdowns and old beams. Candlesticks and oil lamps, both replaced by electric light in the 1940s, still stand on mantelpieces.

A unique record of French rural life as it used to be, this book also provides information on sources for the regional pottery, enamelware, linen and furniture that can still be bought today.

After decades of being banished from residential areas, water is now becoming an increasingly significant feature in urban design. Whether it is the integration of natural water courses into the built environment, rainwater management, the incorporation of water elements in urban areas for climatic purposes or the creation of oases of tranquility or drama such as pools or fountains all these aspects are not only encountering renewed interest among architects and urban planners, but they are also greeted with appreciation by the general public. This book reveals the wide variety of possibilities for using water as a creative element in the city, in art, in the landscape and architecture. The works are organized in seven categories and encompass large-scale masterplans, urban plazas and parks, river restaurations but also interior design schemes and art objects. Amongst the works documented are the landscape design for Dubai Business Park, a river restauration in Bishan Park in Singapore, landscaping for a new town in Tianjin, China, the schemes for Telecom Park, Taipei and Vuores Central Park in Tampere, Finland, and the design for Civic Square Seattle.

The first handbook on reclaimed wood, combining useful information, rich history, and design ideas

Wood reclaimed from old houses, factories, barns, water tanks, and boardwalks has become a valuable commodity, treasured for the patina that gives witness to its history. Our ancestors built well, using locally sourced lumber that expressed the culture and natural history of their region: oak and pine in the Northeast; hickory and cypress in the South; Douglas fir and redwood in the West.

Reclaimed Wood: A Field Guide is the first complete visual handbook to this popular resource, covering history, culture, salvage, sources, contemporary uses (in buildings and furniture), and practical advice.

Following on, a section on Rooms shows how well the look can work throughout the home, including offices and children’s rooms.
