ID: 15382
Издательство: Prestel

This special edition revives an acclaimed work. Exquisite photographs showcase England’s finest buildings, guiding the reader through five centuries of English architecture and interior design.

In this new, special edition of a cult classic work, photographer Derry Moore and interior designer David Mlinaric take readers on a panoramic tour inside some of Britain’s finest buildings, guiding them through five centuries of English interior design.

Mlinaric’s informed text and Moore’s perceptive photographs present the best examples of both public and private buildings — from sixteenth-century Haddon Hall, Chastleton and Knole to seventeenth-century Hatfield and Wilton; Houghton Hall and Syon House from the eighteenth century; Apsley House, the Palace of Westminster and Waddesdon Manor from the nineteenth; and twentieth-century examples including Charleston and the Apollo Victoria Theatre. The work of British masters including Inigo Jones, William Kent and Robert Adam, as well as of influential twentieth-century tastemakers such as Nancy Lancaster, Pauline de Rothschild and David Hicks, is revealed in striking photographs and authoritative texts.

Anglophiles, armchair tourists, and lovers of grand interiors will relish the photographs of these wonderful buildings, while discovering more about the designers and architects who built them, charting the evolution that has made British style so alluring, enduring, and widely imitated over the centuries.

Derry Moore's (b. 1937, England) photographs have been reproduced in magazines worldwide and he has published over a dozen books, including Paradise Gardens with Monty Don (2018), In the Shadow of the Raj (2017), Horses (2016) and An English Room (2014). David Milnaric (b. 1939, England) is an interior decorator and design consultant. His work ranges from commissions for private clients, such as Lord Rothschild and Mick Jagger, to public institutions, such as the National Gallery, London, the V&A, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, a number of buildings belonging to the National Trust, and many other historic houses.

Miguel Flores-Vianna

Издательство: Vendome Press

A glorious, intimate homage to this magical country from bestselling photographer and writer Miguel Flores-Vianna

A land immortalized by poets for its otherworldly beauty, Greece is the birthplace of iconic monuments that are known the world over. Yet, at the same time, it is also home to an organic architectural language, the product of centuries of rural and island lifestyles — it is the heir both to the timelessness of classical architecture and the simplicity of rustic living.

This stunning volume chronicles Miguel Flores-Vianna’s photographic odyssey through the beautiful Greek landscape, showcasing historical houses alongside contemporary homes, united by the colorful characters who either live or have lived in these places — the “haute bohemians”.

From the sophisticated residences of collectors and painters to island hideaways, centuries-old tavernas, royal follies, breathtaking gardens and even a restored sailboat, Flores-Vianna transports his armchair travel companions to a wondrous world, bathed in the glow of an ethereal light. An extraordinary range of characters emerges — including historic figures such as the shepherd Alexandros Rodakis and Queen Amalia, and contemporary creatives such as antique dealer Eleni Martinou and architect Katerina Tsigarida. Featured, too, are the homes of international residents who share a passion for this magical land, such as interior designer John Stefanidis, artists Helen and Brice Marden, and financier and philanthropist Jacob Rothschild.

A self-confessed “Hellenophile” who has visited Greece countless times since his childhood, Flores-Vianna invites us to join him in paying tribute to his beloved adopted nation, capturing the character and patina of this enchanting country through his trademark intimate, atmospheric photography, and engaging texts.

About the Author:

Miguel Flores-Vianna has been a photographer, writer, and editor for more than 20 years. He is the author of the bestselling Haute Bohemians, selected as the design book of the year by the New York Times T magazine, and A Wandering Eye: Travels with My Phone. 'City of Light', 'City of Mystery', 'City of Romance' – of course, it must be Paris. No other European capital city has the same allure, charm and plethora of pleasures to be searched for and delightfully discovered. For while Paris’s public buildings are there for all to admire, there is another, more secret Paris that is not so easy to find. Unlike London, or many other busy cities, Paris has always hidden much of its domestic charm behind tantalisingly closed doors – heavy wooden doors – that can only be accessed through keys, codes or the interrogation of suspicious concierges. Behind those doors are houses and apartments grouped round courtyards and gardens, which remain unseen by all except for those in the know, until now.
Hidden Paris opens the door to some of these secret interiors – both the old and the new, the classic and the quirky – and sheds a light on how Parisians really live.

About the Author:

Caroline Clifton-Mogg is an experienced journalist who specializes in interior design, antiques and gardens. She is the author of many books, including the previous books in this series, Modern Retro and Modern CountryThe White HomeSet with StyleChina and Glass, The Curtain Design Sourcebook, Decorating with Antiques, Textile Style and A Passion for Collecting, and writes regularly for a number of magazines and newspapers. Home for the Soul is about creating a considerate and sustainable home that also sparks happiness and reflects the spirits, passions and tastes of its inhabitants.

The first section shares ideas for the elements of a stylish yet sustainable home, from lighting to linens, while in Part Two, Sara and Dan visit soulful homes and their owners to discover how they have created interiors that are beautiful yet responsible at the same time. Home for the Soul shows how a mindful, ethically sourced and eco-friendly ethos can be at the heart of modern homemaking. It looks at sustainable, renewable and reclaimed materials, using traditional skills and choosing organic and hand-produced homewares. Paul Gunther, Gay Giordano
ID: 15037
Издательство: Rizzoli

Cutting-edge examples of the use of optical illusion in design — from trompe l’oeil to anamorphosis — to solve various challenges, be they space or budget-related, or that act as aesthetic features in architecture and the fields that rub elbows with it: art, design, and furniture.

This magical volume presents the startling world of illusion in design as employed by today’s architects, interior designers, furniture designers, and others at work bending the appearance of reality for purposes of aesthetics or practicality or fun. From a faux bookcase that masks a room or Prohibition-style bar, to the mind-boggling Escher-like effects achieved by Casa Ceramica, whose optical illusion of a floor dips into valleys and rises into mounds (but is in reality flat), the book is a revelation and an inspiration. It offers to us the possibility that nearly anything can be done, if it can be imagined — even in our own homes.

The authors look at residences across the globe, as well as spaces beyond the home, that utilize a myriad of surprising techniques.

Included are projects by conceptual designers such as Studio Malka and Vector Architects, as well as established practitioners such as Ferguson and Shamamian, G. P. Schafer, Peter Pennoyer, Redd/Kaihoi, and others, and all will surprise and engage the inspired viewer who will see that nearly anything can be done, if it can be imagined.

Radical. Visionary. Poetic. Inside Utopia shows the future of living that architects and designers have envisioned.

Spectacular and reflective, unpretentious and efficient: the breathtaking Elrod House by John Lautner; the Lagerfeld Apartment near Cannes that seems like a set from a science fiction film; Palais Bulles in France with its organic and unique architecture. These interiors welcome habitation and spark curiosity while embodying the foundations of minimalism and bygone visions of the future. Inside Utopia delves into the rhyme and reason behind past designs that we still interact with today.

The architects, the owners, and the craftsmen like Gio Ponti or Bruce Goff who work behind the scenes created amorphous interiors that invite the mind to wander. At the time they were futuristic, confident, utopian, idealistic — we may not realize it, but they have shaped our current living concepts, and even now, they inspire us anew. Previously it has been difficult to attain access to these preserved interiors, but Inside Utopia unearths what was before unseen.
