50 step-by-step projects, plus practical advice on hanging curtains, choosing fabric, and measuring up
Learn to sew curtains, shades, pillows, and more and make your home truly your own with these 50 beautiful projects. Sewing your own home furnishings will allow you to choose exactly the fabric and style you want, and will make your home unique.
There’s never been a better time to sew for the home, with a huge range of furnishing fabrics available in stores and online. And the money you save by making these items yourself can be put towards buying the loveliest fabrics you can afford, making your home more beautiful still. Designer Vanessa Arbuthnott guides you through 50 projects, each made in one of her own beautiful printed fabrics, and all with easy-to-follow illustrated instructions.
The projects range from the simplest of pillow covers for the novice stitcher, through to lined curtains with an array of different headings, shades, bed throws, and table linen. There is also a chapter on accessories, such as a cook’s apron, and table mats, which would all be a great starting point if you want to brush up on your skills before tackling a larger project. Vanessa explains how each of her collections was developed, and what inspired her designs, but if you prefer to choose your own material, there is plenty of advice on selecting fabrics, using color, cutting out, matching pattern repeats, piping, and hand-stitching, as well as a techniques section covering the basic sewing skills you will need.
Guidance on measuring for curtains and shades, and on ways to hang them, as well as instructions for valances and an upholstered cornice, make this a complete introduction to sewing your own window treatments, and more. Previously published as The Home-Sewn Home, this new edition includes four completely new projects and inspirational photography featuring Vanessa’s most recent fabric collections throughout.

Amsterdam Design 1900–1930 In the early 20th century, two movements emerged that were to define Dutch design of the early 20th century: de Stijl (the Style) and de Amsterdamse School (the Amsterdam School). De Stijl was the minimal and modernist of the two.
De Amsterdamse School, on the other hand, broke with rational convention and allowed for the frivolous use of ornament. Amsterdam 1900–1930 contains a visual guide to the design methodology used by graphic designers, architects and artists at the time and hundreds of examples of designs from the first three decades of the 20th century.

World-renowned paint effects guru and colour expert Annie Sloan considers what makes a successful interior.
Style and colour lie at the heart of the matter, but both can be stumbling blocks for the amateur decorator. Annie explains how to achieve your chosen style by creating moodboards and analysing key factors, such as scale, focus, display and layout.
She examines nine popular styles: French Elegance, Neoclassical, Traditional Swedish, Vintage Floral, Modern Retro, Boho Chic, Coastal Style, Rustic Country and Warehouse Style. Discover, too, the key techniques you’ll need to recreate these styles in your own home: colour theory (Why do some colours work so well together? Why can the same colour look dramatically different in different rooms?), using storytelling with pictures and collected treasures, style fusions (combining your favourite styles) and, of course, paint techniques.
With stunning photography and packed with practical advice, this will soon become your interior style bible.

Doors are prominent and essential elements of all buildings. They pave the way into and out of a building. Thus, doors are simultaneously an article of daily use and an explicit statement of the homeowner. They can serve as an invitation just as well as a barrier. Due to the variety of potential uses and statements the door is an integral, yet very intricate architectural component.
Through the eye of excellent photographers with exceptional attention to detail, this volume attempts to capture the magnificent diversity of doors from all architectural epochs and styles found in Europe’s greatest cities. It documents the entire scope of entrance design from ancient to brand new, from frugal to pompously ornate, from functional to playful.
The volume is part of a series, which is focused not on prominent buildings at large but on ingenious and extraordinary details.
The new series sends the reader on a journey across European metropolises. Thereby, the attention is focused not on prominent buildings at large but on ingenious and extraordinary details. Each book concerns with a different constructional element. The first three volumes present doors, windows and façades from all architectural epochs and styles. Whether new or old, nice or bizarre – here you will find an architectural kaleidoscope of a special kind.

Architectural Lighting, the latest addition to the Architecture Briefs series, provides both a critical approach to and a conceptual framework for understanding the application of lighting in the built environment. The key considerations of lighting design are illuminated through accessible texts and instructional diagrams. Six built projects provide readers with concrete examples of the ways in which these principles are applied. Short essays by architect Steven Holl, artist Sylvain Dubuisson, and landscape architect James Corner explore the role of lighting in defining spatial compositions.
An essential tool for architects, interior designers, set designers and related professionals, this book offers a rich library of visual references for every research need. An illustrated glossary of technical terms offers a vocabulary for professional communication and a comprehensive index of subject matter and materials makes it easy to find just the image you need.
How do courses of brickwork accommodate the shape of an arch? Exactly what happens at the intersection of two stone walls? What is the profile of a molding where a cornice wraps around the corner of a building? Solving these problems with style and elegance is the hallmark of good design; the resulting solutions are the structural and decorative details that are emblematic of historic periods and become the signatures of individual styles and designers.
This addition to the acclaimed Surfaces series catalogues hundreds of different architectural features. Its more than 1,400 high-quality colour photographs capture the texture, colour, grain and shape of architectural details organized by subject: walls, facades, ornament and molding, columns, posts and arches, windows, doorways, ceilings and roofs, floors and pavement.
• The CD-ROMs include easy-to-use screen-resolution TIFF files of every image and the complete glossary of terms.
Materials inspire and arouse emotions, they surround us everywhere, we possess them and feel them. As with people, our first impression of them is provided by the visual perception they create. The Architecture Compact series presents materials that on the one hand convey a unique impression through their inherent physical characteristics, and on the other hand, achieve surprising results when used in combination with each other.
Materialien, Konzepte, Techniken - in der Reihe ARCHITECTURE COMPACT widmen sich die einzelnen Bände aktuellen Themen der Architektur des 21. Jahrhunderts.
