"This book will enable a wider audience to engage with the brutalist architecture of London in a new way through crafting the models with their own hands"  - Norman Foster

In this fun and intellectually stimulating book, readers can recreate a number of London’s most renowned Brutalist buildings. Opening with an informative history of the origins and philosophy of Brutalist architecture, the book then focuses on 9 buildings, including the Barbican Estate, Robin Hood Gardens, Balfron Tower and the National Theatre.

The first part of the book looks at the significance of each of these buildings, with a short chapter on each, complete with texts and images.

The second part of the book consists of a series of 9 push-out and build cardboard models, printed on heavy card stock, that readers can detach and construct with easy-to-follow instructions.

At once fun and informative, this unique book offers a challenging and entertaining approach to architecture.

A long-overdue survey of the world’s most inventive contemporary apartment buildings, which explores how to make our dwellings comfortable and suitable for 21st-century living

This book explores contemporary apartments not as raw canvases for interior decoration but as a building type of growing significance.

An introduction presents the history of multiple-occupancy housing through its most innovative 20th-century exemplars, from the urbane blocks of Auguste Perret and Henri Sauvage in Paris, to the landscaped housing estates of Weimar Germany and the visionary schemes of Le Corbusier.

The heart of the book features 38 recent and ongoing projects, designed by leading international studios and rising talents. Buildings range from social housing and micro apartments to ‘vertical villages’, megastructures and luxury high-rises. Each project is considered for the way in which it enriches the lives of residents and the city, and is shown through drawings and photographs, taken from the street and within.

The book also includes interviews with such contemporary masters of apartment design as Michael Maltzan, Lorcan O’Herlihy, Édouard François and Bjarke Ingels. As our cities grow more crowded, it is critical that we produce large-scale buildings that enhance the lives of their inhabitants, their surroundings and the urban environment as a whole. Building Community offers dozens of proven successes to designers and apartment-dwellers.

As good as living can get: real estate with a rare combination of outstanding location, timelessly classical architecture, and high-quality materials

Redefining comfort zones — for designers, architects, and residents who have elevated standards for their living spaces

Architectural mastery with handcrafted details, enhanced with all of today’s modern conveniences, is on full display in the elegant residences of RALF SCHMITZ’s extraordinary portfolio. Whether urban villas or townhouses, Wilhelminian style or Art Deco, glimpse refined classical architecture combined with state-of-the-art finishes as you tour an array of luxury interiors in this opulent book.

Exceptional Homes shows a variety of distinctive, newly-constructed buildings and ultra-stylish homes in prime locations. The showroom apartments in Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Hamburg feature exquisite furnishings and tasteful color combinations that make them truly inspiring. Traditional architectural layouts are skillfully re-imagined and re-designed for modern living, allowing for light-flooded floor plans with harmonious room sequences to create beautiful, upscale home environments.

Even the common areas of the unique properties are splendidly accentuated — lavish lobbies and elaborate elevators make the mere arrival to a building or residence a memorable experience. Exclusive cooperative projects with prestigious interior design professionals, such as the Italian luxury label Bottega Veneta, demonstrate the exceptional standard upheld by this historic company. All structures are designed by renowned, highly sought-after architectural firms.

“Only value endures” is the guiding principle of the Schmitz family, the real estate developers for subdued luxury. This is precisely what the founder of the company mandated in 1864. Today, the company embodies the same values: developing and building high-quality residential estates on exclusive properties on the basis of a building culture that stands for architectural perfection.

M. Pei, the Archigram Group, Kisho Kurokawa, and others.

High-rise Living is a fresh look at modern, architecturally designed spaces in which to live, right in the heart of the city.
