Gingeras, Étienne Hervy, Emily King, Philippe Rouyer and Akira Takamiya. From the award-winning costume designer of Amazon Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a collection of the show’s costumes, with never-before-seen photography, sketches, production stills, and more.

The Emmy- and Golden Globe–winning series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel centers on Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a 1950s New York City woman whose seemingly perfect life suddenly takes an unexpected turn, taking her from a comfortable life on Riverside Drive through the basket houses and nightclubs of Greenwich Village as she embarks on a groundbreaking standup comedy career. Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (creator and showrunner of Gilmore Girls), and starring Rachel Brosnahan, Alex Borstein, and Tony Shalhoub, the series has garnered fan and critical praise alike, with much of the attention focused on the exquisitely designed period costumes.

Madly Marvelous: The Costumes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel explores the inner workings of Donna Zakowska’s process, as well as the many inspirations for the show’s wardrobe, including period photography, American and European fashion trends, and the various cultures and countercultures of late-1950s New York. The clothes of Mrs. Maisel are gorgeous, authentically detailed, and carefully crafted.

Illustrated with sketches, photographs from Zakowska’s workspace, behind-the-scenes shots, and production stills, the book follows the series from season to season, showing how the vocabulary of fashion—context, style, color, cut, accessories, and more — is integral to defining and developing the characters in the show.

The definitive monograph on the most illustrious haute-couture embroidery house in the world, featuring specially commissioned photography of Maison Lesage’s Paris archive collections

The most famous embroidery house in the world, Maison Lesage has collaborated with the greatest names in the history of fashion, from Madeleine Vionnet, Elsa Schiaparelli, Cristóbal Balenciaga and Christian Dior to Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy and, of course, Chanel, which counts Lesage as one of its Métiers d’Art ateliers.

_______________

The most prestigious Parisian Haute Couture artisans, Maison Lesage has collaborated with the biggest names in fashion, from Chanel, Schiaparelli, and Yves Saint Laurent, to Cristobal Balenciaga, Valentino, and Alexander McQueen. Founded in 1924, when the Lesage family bought the eminent firm of Michonet (then a supplier to such fashion legends as the House of Worth), Maison Lesage has created exceptional embroidery motifs ― often requiring hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of precise beadwork ― for star fashion designers for decades.

Perhaps best known today for the masterpieces it creates for Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel collections, the house was bought by Chanel in 2002 as part of its Paraffection group to ensure the survival of the house’s unique history and extraordinary skills.

Illustrated with specially commissioned photography of the house’s historic creations and illuminated with texts by Patrick Mauries, who has written extensively on Chanel, Maison Lesage is both a tribute to exceptional craftsmanship and a journey through more than one hundred years of fashion at its most sumptuous and inventive. By Mark Ryden Foreword by Takashi Murakami
ID: 18289
Издательство: Abrams

Mark Ryden’s Yakalina Secrets is the wondrous second installment in the artist’s incredible gallery of creatures.

In his Pacific Northwest studio during the isolation of COVID-19, Mark Ryden began a series of his iconic half-animal, half-plush creatures that further explored his reverence for these beings, who are guides through a landscape of the unknown. The figures in these paintings are neither human nor animal, they are spiritual entities that create a bridge between the human and animal worlds in which so much disharmony exists.

This book features all of the original portraits of Ryden’s mysterious and mythical creatures. The resulting gallery of enchanted characters embodies the artist’s meticulously realized signature blend of archetype, kitsch, and narrative mysticism.

Mark Ryden’sYakalina Secrets features works from two of the artist’s exhibitions, organized in collaboration with Emmanuel Perrotin and Kasmin Gallery: Animal Secrets in Paris and Yakalina 9 in Tokyo.

Foreword by Takashi Murakami

About the Author:

Blending pop culture themes with techniques reminiscent of the old masters, Mark Ryden has created a singular style that blurs the traditional boundaries between high and low art. His work first garnered attention in the 1990s when he ushered in a new genre of painting, “pop surrealism,” dragging a host of followers in his wake. Ryden has trumped the initial surrealist strategies by choosing topics loaded with cultural connotation.

A breathtaking survey of 20 years of fashion designs by Martin Margiela

Timed to coincide with a major exhibition, this volume revisits the years during which celebrated designer Martin Margiela achieved the status as one of the most important designers at work today. One of the "Antwerp group of six" who changed the face of contemporary fashion, Margiela created 41 runway shows between 1989 and 2009 which promoted a unique vision of understated luxury -- monochromes, oversize volumes, and his signature "constructed-deconstructed" cuts - whose credo is comfort, timelessness, sensuality, and authenticity.

Famously reclusive, Margiela never showed his face even at his own shows in order that the work could stand purely on its own, free from any link to celebrity or self-promotion. This volume chronicles these amazing fashion shows in careful detail: the extraordinary spaces, the music, the designer's intentions, the iconic pieces. Over the years, recurring motifs and inspirations become more apparent including anonymity, whiteness, past and anteriority, diversion. The book reveals the sensitive, poetic and incredibly innovative universe of this most influential contemporary fashion designer.

About the Authors:

Alexandre Samson is a curator and manages the Palais Galliera contemporary collections.

Olivier Saillard is a noted fashion historian and author and was the director of the Palais Galliera from 2010 until 2017. He is currently artistic director of J.M. Weston, a men's luxury shoe brand.
