Author Massimiliano Capella, Introduction by Mario Boselli, Contributions by The Missoni Archive, Edited by Luca Missoni
ID: 15925
Издательство: Rizzoli

A celebration of the unmistakable Missoni style, whose innovative approach mixes bold color, pattern, and material with an extraordinary sense of balance and elegance.

This is the first fully comprehensive book about Missoni, created with full access to the archives and with the support of the Missoni family. Lavishly designed, it features reproductions of Missoni patterns printed on special material and stitched into the binding between signatures along with other special features.

This volume was conceived as a design object, in which images, texts, original fabrics, drawings, color palettes, and fashion patterns speak to one another. Missoni celebrates an elegance that has become an artistic expression as well as something of a cultural and fashion revolution since the early 1950s, when Rosita and Ottavio Missoni began their creative journey into fashion and art, with a talent for experimentation that never betrayed the spirit of their origins in the decades to come.

Divided into thematic sections, each is introduced by an essay including quotes by the Missonis themselves, highlighting the artistic decisions that contributed to the success and recognizability of their fashion house.

With previously unpublished material from both the family and the company archives, this volume is a look into the creative and artistic world of Missoni.

About the Author:

Massimiliano Capella is professor of costume and fashion history at the Bergamo University. Mario Boselli is the honorary president of "Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana," which promotes Italian Fashion internationally. Luca Missoni is the artistic director of the Missoni Archive and curates museum exhibitions for the brand

Fashion illustration fulfils several objectives for designers. At the very outset of the design process, it helps turn an idea – which until then only existed as a tangled web of possibilities in the designer’s mind – into something tangible. After this, once the design is on paper, the designer can use the drawing to refine the details of the garment and its production, bringing the original idea ever closer to its actual realization.

Menswear is one of the most creative and dynamic areas in fashion today. Changing attitudes, a relaxation of dress codes and larger disposable incomes have all led to men spending more money on looking good than ever before. Modern Menswear is defying convention and changing the fashion landscape. Creating this focus is a group of visionaries who have shifted the boundaries of menswear design, designers who have broken with tradition to visualize radical and directional clothing. They are not concerned with the formalities and traditions of menswear, but see their garments as an expression of contemporary thought. With a huge range of imagery, Modern Menswear showcases these fashion leaders, profiling big names and emerging talent from across the world. Designers featured include Marc Jacobs, Yoji Yamamoto, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano, with an insight into their design processes and their contribution to the contemporary fashion aesthetic.

Hywel Davies has lectured at Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion and the Royal College of Art. Previously fashion editor at Sleazenation, he has also written for Arena, Jack, Vogue, ELLE, Wallpaper*, The Sunday Telegraph, Nylon, Dazed & Confused, Loaded Fashion, and Time Out. He is also a consultant for numerous brands, including Levi’s, Braun, and Orange.

Narciso Rodriguez, Betsy Berne
ID: 7965
Издательство: Rizzoli

The two-time winner of the Best Designer of the Year Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and hailed as the king of minimalism, Narciso Rodriguez is poised to take his place in the pantheon of great American designers. As Anna Wintour put it, "No one but Narciso has ever made a simple line look more stunning." Like the famously copied wedding dress he made for Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Rodriguez’s designs are revered for their exquisite tailoring but also for being wearable. His exceptionally varied and loyal following - from Salma Hayek and Sarah Jessica Parker, to Oprah Winfrey and the late Celia Cruz - is a testament to his success.

This elegant volume reveals the artist at work in his atelier. Rodriguez takes his inspiration from the life that surrounds him - whether it’s the subtle color of faded paint on a façade, a pattern made by the sand, or the gesture of a young man on a skateboard - and records it in sketchbooks and vivid snapshots. Always experimenting with new textiles and textures, he creates deceptively simple montages - artworks in their own right - that gracefully yield the stunning dresses we see flowing down the runway.

About the Author

Narciso Rodriguez is a foremost American designer, the first to receive the CFDA "Womenswear Designer of the Year" award for two consecutive years. Betsy Berne is the author of Bad Timing and has written for The New Yorker, Vogue, and The New York Times Magazine, among other publications.
