Whilst Soviet modernist buildings in Georgia have enjoyed worldwide recognition for several decades, the art for architecture from that era – monumental decorative mosaics – still await discovery and appreciation from an international audience. Then, as now, these richly coloured mosaics were an independent, yet inextricable part of Georgia’s architecture: they underlined a building’s use, structured its façade, or merged into an elaborate whole. Today, however, many of these works, which were far more than just state propaganda, are under threat of destruction.

For the first time, this volume documents these unique remnants of Soviet history alongside their precise locations. Using vivid photos and detailed texts, Nini Palavandishvili and Lena Prents guide the reader through a diverse selection of mosaics that distinguish themselves from those of the other Soviet Republics. By drawing attention to this artistic legacy of a bygone era, and in the process revealing its beauty and cultural significance, the authors highlight the importance of protecting and preserving it for the future.

Author Ron Kaspriske, Contributions by David Leadbetter and Golf Digest
ID: 14102
Издательство: Universe

More than six million golfers turn to the pages of Golf Digest for answers to their most perplexing golf questions and for tips on how to improve their game. Now, Golf Digest turns to its team of players, teachers, and advisors to compile the definitive instruction manual from more than 60 years of publication. This ultimate instruction book includes easy-to-follow instructions, photos, and diagrams of all the skills players of all levels need to improve their game from green to tee.

Chapters focus on specific skills, including putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play, irons, fairway woods and hybrids, and drivers. This book is written the way great instructors tell their students to learn the game: from green to tee, not the other way around. This is not a beginner’s approach. It’s how good players review and re-vamp their games when things get off track. Putting and other elements of the short game are vital to scoring and the first place players look to get their scores back down. This is learning the Golf Digest way — no gimmicks — using a fundamental logic that somehow has escaped too many instructional books.

Each section provides an excellent platform for practice sessions — from warm-up through cool-down exercises, as well as basic to advanced drills. Stressing the need to create a positive environment during practice and encourage creativity as well as technical correctness, this book serves as an essential tool for coaches as well as players to improve performance and enjoyment of the game.

This indispensable reference book is fully illustrated with clear action-sequence photos of and tips from the best players and instructors who have served as contributors throughout Golf Digest’s history. Among them: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Butch Harmon, David Leadbetter, Phil Mickelson, Annika Sorenstam, Rickie Fowler, Hank Haney, Lorena Ochoa, Stan Utley, Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Dave Stockton, Rick Smith, Paula Creamer, Ernie Els, and Jim McLean.

About the Authors:

Launched in 1950, Golf Digest is the No. 1 golf magazine in the world. Ron Kaspriske is an editor at Golf Digest and has been writing about golf for more than a decade. Tom Watson, who writes a golf instruction column for Golf Digest, won eight major golf championships in the 1970s and 1980s. David Leadbetter, consistently ranked as one of the top golf instructors in the world, is coach to countless PGA, European PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tour players, and is known throughout the world for his innovative and creative teaching techniques. Over the past 30 years, his players have amassed more than a dozen major championship titles and more than 100 individual worldwide tournament victories. Leadbetter’s coaching has spanned three decades and he has often been recognized as the "man who invented the golf instruction industry.” A Professional Golfers Association Master Professional, Golf Channel Instruction Editor, and Golf Digest Teaching Professional, David's clientele includes four players who have held first place in the Official World Golf Ranking. He is the author of seven golf instructional books, with more than two million copies sold. He has also written and produced a number of instructional DVDs, as well as written and co-produced more than 40 television programs.

Europe-Bound. The top spots for absolute escapism

Through ancient wonders, world capitals, and tiny places with infectious personalities, Europe packs some serious travel punches. The world’s second-smallest continent makes up for size with its intricate cultures and abundant charms, boasting artistic masterpieces and architectural marvels as much as natural splendor.

This revised and updated edition brings you a curated selection of the most unique hotels and atmospheric guesthouses across the European continent. Selected for their breathtaking locations and interiors, each haven offers the surroundings of style and the serenity in which everyday life can melt away. Angelika Taschen reveals such gems as Der Seehof, an idyllic site on an Austrian lake where guests can fish for their dinner; a 150-year old Portuguese estate refurbished by Pritzker Prize-winner Eduardo Souto De Moura, which remains a working farm to this day; and Budsjord, last stop on one of the loneliest pilgrimage routes in the world, situated at the edge of the Dovrefjell National Park in Norway — to name just a few.

A treasure trove of travel inspiration, this must-have guide profiles each hotel through postcard-ready photography as well as key information like directions, contact details, and reading inspiration for each destination.

La bell’Italia è per sempre. Legendary hotels and secret hideaways full of atmosphere

In Italy, art and life are entwined. This visual journey offers glimpses of rural landscapes, high culture, and divine food, all spied through the doorways and windows of the country’s most stunning hotels. Gorgeous photographs of hideaways and homesteads from Venice to Sicily offer fabulous accommodation suggestions for your next dolce vita getaway.

To travel through Italy is as close as one gets to being in paradise. For centuries, writers, artists, architects, and merchants have been drawn here, inspired by the beauty of Venice, Florence, Naples, and Rome. Countless books, paintings, poems, and sculptures are evidence of its undying appeal, and over the past 60 years, the country has become one of the world’s top travel and holiday destinations. The loveliness of Italy is, if not eternal, certainly enduring, and the easygoing and relaxed Italian lifestyle is still unrivaled.

Here, some of Italy’s most amazing landscapes and diverse regions are brought to life, like Tuscany, Umbria, the Amalfi Coast, and, no less magical, the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily. In these mythical surroundings are legendary hotels full of atmosphere, where novels are set, movies are made, weddings are celebrated, and famous love stories consummated: Villa d’Este on Lake Como, the Pellicano Hotel in Porto Ercole, the Il San Pietro on the Amalfi Coast, and the Palazzo Margherita in Basilicata — o name just a few. Angelika Taschen also reveals where to find more secret and hidden jewels — from the Locanda Cipriani, a destination for food lovers on the island of Torcello, to the romantic Castello di Vicarello in Tuscany and the atmospheric Masseria Moroseta in Puglia.

This new jigsaw will satisfy your need for a challenge, featuring Gustav Klimt: Three Ages of Woman. This 1000 piece jigsaw is intended for adults and children over 13 years. Not suitable for children under 3 years due to small parts. Finished Jigsaw size 735 x 510mm/29 x 20 ins. Now includes an A4 poster for reference.

Renowned Art Nouveau artist Gustav Klimt was born in Baumgarten, a suburb of Vienna. Excited by the artists in other countries who were beginning to rebel against orthodoxy Klimt began to develop new ideas, and in 1897 he co-founded the Vienna Secession. The artists of the Vienna Secession did not form a single ‘school’; they were individuals, many of whom worked in very different fields, and they certainly approached their work in very different ways. But they shared similar goals and priorities in seeking to break free of the constraints of the late nineteenth century academic art establishment. In this powerful work, Klimt sought to portray the lifecycle of women in a realistic light. Awarded the gold medal at the Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte in Rome in 1911, this painting illustrates the passing of time. In the full artwork, an elderly naked woman weeps and a young mother embraces her sleeping baby daughter.
