Brice Matthieussent

New in the Photofile series, a mini-monograph on Belgian photographer Harry Gruyaert.

Born in Antwerp in 1941, Harry Gruyaert was a pioneer of European colour photography in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1972, he created TV Shots, a series of images created by turning the dial on a television set at random and photographing the screen.

Later he travelled the world, seeking out different kinds of light and exhibiting a particular fascination with borders, interfaces and incongruous juxtapositions. A member of Magnum Photos since 1982, he describes colour as ‘a means of sculpting what I see ... it’s the emotion of photography.’ Most recently he has begun to explore the experimental freedom offered by digital photography. Autonomous, non-narrative and often witty, Gruyaert’s images are complex encounters with colour and light.

About the Author:

Brice Matthieussent is an award-winning translator of over 200 novels from English into French, including the writings of Jim Harrison, for which he was awarded the 2013 Prix Jules Janin from the Académie française. He currently teaches the history of contemporary art and aesthetics at the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Marseille.

Stepping bravely into the cyclone of 21st-century fashions, Harry Styles is more than weathering the storm. Whether he’s breaking the internet with his $7.99 frog-eyed yellow bucket hat or a pair of black fishnets, or fronting cult magazine The Beauty Papers, as he did in March 2021, Hazza’s sparkle knows no boundaries.

Gucci met Styles in 2014, and there was instant chemistry. According to designer Alessandro Michele, Harry is ‘a young Greek God with the attitude of James Dean and a little bit of Mick Jagger’ – and that effortless superstardom certainly radiates from the photos in this collection, which document the heart of Harry’s wardrobe, both on-stage and off.

Part fashion history lesson, pulling references from the rock and roll greats of the past, and part innovation, Harry’s style pays homage to Kurt Cobain and Marc Bolan, Prince and Little Richard, while developing into something authentic and entirely his own. This chic book fizzles with facts about Harry’s styling choices, presenting the star’s most revered looks alongside pictures that trace the roots of each design. With quotes from key designers, this is the perfect gift for any fan.

- A guide to the style of Harry Styles, a 21st-century fashion icon
- Over 100 pictures of Harry and the pop-idols who have influenced his sartorial taste
- The perfect gift for fans and fashionistas
- A luxurious cloth cover with quarter binding

In this moving collection of images, exhibited to great acclaim at the Hayward Gallery in 1998, the celebrated photographer has recorded what it means to be European. Spanning the years from the late 1920s to the early 1990s, his photographs speak of the ongoing business of living for people across Europe, whether Polish priests or Abruzzi peasants.

With his remarkable ability to capture the fragile reality of European life, Henri Cartier-Bresson once again underscores his reputation as one of the 20th century’s most influential and original photographers.

Explores the key role Paris played in Cartier-Bresson's artistic career, and the way he looked at the city he lived in – and loved

An inveterate traveller, Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908–2004) captured the world with his camera, justly earning himself the title of ‘the eye of the century’. Between trips overseas, he regularly photographed Paris, although he rarely spoke about the city that he had made his home, where he had spent his formative years, made friends, and built a hard-won reputation.

Produced in collaboration with the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson and designed to accompany a major exhibition at the Musée Carnavalet, this book showcases more than sixty years of images of Paris. It invites you to follow in the footsteps of a master photographer as he wanders the banks of the Seine and explores the more rarely seen edges of a city in a state of perpetual change

Magical images that defy time from the grand master of conceptual photography.

Through his expansive exploration of the possibilities of still images, the internationally renowned artist and photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto has created some of the most alluringly enigmatic photographs of our time; pictures that are meticulously crafted and deeply thought-provoking, familiar yet tantalisingly ambiguous.

Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine is a comprehensive survey of work produced over the past five decades, featuring selections from all of Sugimoto's major photographic series, as well as lesser-known works that illuminate his innovative, conceptually-driven approach to making pictures. Texts by a collection of international writers, artists and scholars - including Geoffrey Batchen, Edmund de Waal, Mami Kataoka, Ralph Rugoff, Lara Strongman and Margaret Wertheim - will highlight his work's philosophical yet playful inquiry into the nature of representation and art, our understanding of time and memory, and the paradoxical character of photography as a medium suited to both documenting and invention.

About the Author:

The enigmatic works of Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto (*1948, Tokyo) fundamentally questioned the understanding of photography. He studied sociology and politics in Tokyo, before moving to Los Angeles to study photography in the early 1970s. In 1974 he settled in New York, where he created his first series Dioramas. His main artistic interests include architecture, abstract forms and intangible phenomena.

Peter Feierabend, Sascha Numßen
ID: 17844
Издательство: teNeues

The first illustrated book that comprehensively illuminates the subject of hunting.

The perfect gift – for young hunters, veteran hunters and interested non-hunters, because here everyone learns something new!
With topics, which are to be found otherwise in no illustrated book: hunting in the art, hunt ethics and celebrities, which are connected with the hunt
The coffee table book by Peter Feierabend and Sascha Numßen from the Ultimate series delves into one of humanity's oldest activities: hunting. Hunting - The Ultimate Book sheds light on hunting from all angles for the first time.

Feierabend and Numßen comprehensively explore the various aspects closely related to hunting in an impressive and holistic manner. Richly illustrated and accompanied by informative texts, they introduce the evolution of hunting attire, the different hunting weapons, and wildlife. They also guide readers through the grandest social hunting events that frame hunting as a pastime in high society.

Furthermore, the two authors focus on the animal companions of hunters. Highly sensitive tracking dogs, trained birds of prey, and noble hunting horses are introduced in this in-depth photo book. Of course, hunting techniques, trophies, and the art associated with hunting are also featured in this impressive work.

But, in addition to hunting techniques and methods, the authors also aim to depict the transformation that hunting has undergone in recent years. In times of an increasingly critical society, hunting can no longer be simply justified by tradition alone. Therefore, Feierabend and Numßen have given topics like animal protection and conservation a special place in this high-calibre and informative work, viewing them as an initiative motivation for hunting.

For anyone wanting to learn more about equipment, wildlife, weapons, and the social background of hunting, this book is the perfect coffee table book.

Text in English and German.

About the Author:

On almost every bookshelf, designer, editor, and author Peter Feierabend will find one of the approximately 3,000 book titles he has worked on, and it's far from Feierabend's end. Born in Hanover, he has lived in Cologne for 25 years after studying design at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
Sascha Numßen (52) studied forestry in Munich. His studies were immediately followed by a traineeship at a publishing house. After taking over as an editor at the hunting magazine Wild und Hund and several years as editor-in-chief at the international gun magazine VISIER, his path led him to the marketing department of the hunting gun manufacturer J.P. Sauer & Sohn in the Allgäu for three years before he occupied the editor-in-chief's chair at the magazine PIRSCH in Munich for over nine years. By setting up the Southwest Editorial Office, Numßen was able to hang up his career and finally "get back on the road" to find good stories for the magazine. Since July 2023, he has been living and hunting with his wife Julia and his Magyar Vizsla dog "Piroschka" at beautiful Lake Balaton in Hungary.
