He has since become known as one of the most important street photographers of his generation. Instrumental in changing attitudes towards colour photography in the 1970s, he is known as a pioneer, an important innovator and a highly influential teacher.

Where I Find Myself is the first major single book retrospective of one of America’s leading photographers. As the title indicates, it is organized in inverse chronological order and spans the photographer’s whole career to date.

It covers all of Meyerowitz’s great projects: his work inspired by the artist Morandi, his work on trees, his exclusive coverage of Ground Zero, his trips in the footsteps of Robert Frank across the US, his experiments comparing colour and black and white pictures, and of course his iconic street photography work.

The text is all by Joel Meyerovitz himself and the book coincides with a major retrospective show in Berlin.

The cosmos of John Heartfield – lavishly illustrated and highly explosive

The political collages of John Heartfield (1891–1968) have earned him a reputation as one of the most innovative graphic artists of the Weimar Republic. His photomontages and book covers based on collages which had their origins in Berlin’s Dada scene were directed against Fascism and made him internationally famous. Their explosive power has lost none of its impact.

Heartfield was a sharp and uncompromising observer who subverted the documentary character of the press photograph. He employed his art as political propaganda, and fought against war and Fascism with gripping pictures and trenchant humour. This catalogue will include not only the working materials which reveal Heartfield’s method but also his trick films, work for the theatre and book design. The original art-works and documents all derive from his personal estate in Berlin. Statements by contemporary artists formulate positions and pose questions, which Heartfield’s work raises in the age of fake news.

Before the beginning of his exile, Koudelka had already produced two works of great importance. One documented the Prague Spring, while the other, on gypsies, could almost have been an ethnological study had its images not been charged with so much emotion. Unknown in 1970, he has risen to become one of the most powerful photographers of the day. This book shows that in the lands of exile through which he travels with his amazing urge to see, Koudelka’s own particular talent has been affirmed and expanded.
