A retrospective on the work of Spanish photographer Miguel Trillo (Jimena de la Frontera, Cádiz, 1953). His work can be described as a photo-documentary, (though his first works are clearly experimental). His encounters with his subjects are almost always accidental, capturing their daily and habitual contexts. Since the beginning of the 80s, Miguel Trillo has depicted anonymous protagonists from what was known as the "Movement" in Madrid and has documented the evolution of urban "tribes", (Mods, Punks, Goths (Death-rockers), Rappers, Head Bangers...) over the last 3 decades all over the world. His photographs depict adolescents and young adults searching for and asserting their identities through clothing, attitude, and behaviour, reflecting the contradictions of a society that has played with experimentation and profound transformation.

This marvellously rich photographic journey through the last sixty years of Italian history will be a joy for anyone who loves photography or Italy – a stunning anthology of some of the most important Italian and international photographers.

The first section records Italy's evolution since 1943 in photographs accompanied by the thoughts of witnesses. The first is by Robert Capa of the arrival of the American army in Sicily in 1943 and in the last, Gabriele Basilico shows the Calabrian coast where the bridge over the Straits of Messina could soon be built. These images encompass all genres: from the work of photojournalists to amateurs, from the first pioneers to contemporary practitioners from the worlds of fashion, architecture, nature photography and artistic experiment.

In Part Two six essays reflect upon moments and movements that have defined the evolution of Italian visual culture, both from the point of view of the creators and the ways in which their images were used.

The third section displays auteur portfolios, each composed of two photo-essays on the same theme, one by an Italian and the other by a non-Italian photographer. These are allied to a text by Ferdinando Scianna, one of Italy’s most prominent photographers.

Giovanna Calvenzi is one of the most prominent figures in European photography today. Currently the Director of Photography for Sportsweek, she has also been the photo-editor at several magazines, notably Amica and Vanity Fair. She has also curated many exhibitions and has sat on several juries, including the World Press Photo award.

As part of the "Inspiration Books" series, this work examines contemporary photography.

The result, a 700-page thick photographic volume subtitled "The World is the Human’s Project", was produced in cooperation with the visual solution provider Corbis. It is a compact collection of artistic imagery that pays special attention to the diversity, beauty, vitality and madness of everyday human situations and actions while portraying a pulsating society whose characteristics are determined by the personal attitude, bearing and responsibility of each and every individual.

"We are what we see and think in the face of a fleeting moment – Thus, the way we act, in  the consequence of our own bearing, eternally."

Following George Lucas's maxim of “Give me a few frames and I'll make a film out of it”, this book project combines various forms of expressions such as image (photographic material) and text (statements) through certain cinematic means (story/plot) to produce an exciting and emotional photographic book.

The fourth edition of this comprehensive history of photography has been thoroughly revised and updated. Spanning the entire history of the medium, from its early development to current practice, and providing a focused understanding of the cultural contexts in which photographers have lived and worked throughout, this remains an all-encompassing survey.

Mary Warner Marien discusses photography from a truly global viewpoint and looks at a wide-ranging collection of images through the lenses of art, science, travel, war, fashion, the mass media and individual photographers. In addition to representing the established canon of Europe and the United States, key work from Latin America, Africa, India, Russia, China and Japan is also included. Professional, amateur and art photographers are all discussed, with ‘Portrait’ boxes devoted to highlighting important individuals and ‘Focus’ boxes charting particular cultural debates.

New additions to this fourth edition include an overview of photography’s involvement in conceptual art, a detailed review of the photographic work of artist Ed Ruscha and new material on European Worker Photography during the 1920s and 30s. Many new pictures have been added throughout the book, including superior versions of historical photographs and recent images from contemporary photographers, including Walead Beshty, Youssef Nabil, Lalla Essaydi and Ryan McGinley. From the invention of the camera obscura to the birth of digital photography, this history of photography’s greatest advances focuses on individual artists, works, and moments that decisively shaped the evolution of a genre.

Chronologically arranged, each chapter focuses on a particular work or idea that changed the course of photography. Presented in beautiful spreads and with informative text, the book opens with photography’s genesis in the form of the camera obscura. Centuries later, Daguerre, Niepce, and Talbot invented their own means of capturing light on paper. The book covers groundbreaking genres such as still life, landscape, portraiture, and nudes. Sections on the role of photography in journalism illustrate how the camera’s presence on battlefields, on city streets, and in factories helped inform and reform the modern world. Fashion, animals, Surrealism, and staged portraits are also explored. Perfect for perusing or reading from cover to cover, this book illustrates how photography developed from a concept to a world-changing force — one that attempted to shed light on truth yet can also obscure and alter reality in dazzling ways.
