Nick Voulgaris III, Contributions by Chris-Craft Boats, Foreword by Ralph Lauren
ID: 16383
Издательство: Rizzoli

Celebrate all that is quintessentially American about being on the water in the world’s most beloved boat.

Since 1874, Chris-Craft has built boats of immense beauty that evoke an emotion and passion in all who see them. The varnished mahogany runabouts of yesteryear, and their modern sister-ships of today, all share the same design ethos, gorgeous lines, high quality, and style. The name alone conjures up images of classic wooden boats, waving flags, and unforgettable memories made on the waves.

Immortalized on the big screen in such movies as On Golden Pond and Mission Impossible, the aura and romance of Chris-Craft shines through in this book featuring more than 200 boats — from never-before-published archival images to gorgeous color photos of collector and new boats — as well as plans and ephemera from Chris-Craft’s own collection. A thoroughly researched and informative narrative brings the captivating 140-year story to life.

This is the ideal gift for boaters, as well as the perfect book for any owner of a vacation home or lake house — or those who aspire toward this American dream.

For almost 50 years, the theme of fashion has been a constant in the work of US artist Cindy Sherman.

Cindy Sherman: Anti-Fashion is the first to focus on this close engagement with fashion and approaches her photographic oeuvre from a new perspective. In so doing, it sheds light on the interplay between art and fashion.

For Sherman uses her numerous commissions from magazines and her collaborations with renowned designers as a constant source of artistic inspiration. This book reveals the subject of fashion as the starting point for the artist’s critical investigation of gender, stereotypes, and our attitude to aging. The wide range of Sherman’s assumed characters highlights the artificiality and changeability of identity, which – now more than ever – is shown to be selectable, (self-)constructed, and fluid.

Text in English and Dutch.

With large, never-before-seen collections and their collectors, Classic Cars Review provides exclusive insights into the world of the largest classic car auction houses, the most innovative classic car dealers, and all the key vintage car events.

For decades, a passion for vintage motors was regarded as an eccentric hobby, particularly prevalent among the wealthy of an older generation. Today, classic cars have an ever larger, younger fan base. Events such as the Mille Miglia in Italy, the Festival of Speed at Goodwood in England, and Pebble Beach in the U.S. enjoy increasing popularity and booming visitor numbers, year after year.

In an opulent coffee table book, Classic Cars Review celebrates the classic car phenomenon by presenting the most beautiful, exciting, and exclusive vintage vehicles, until now only visible in museums or behind the locked doors of private collections. It’s a Concours d’Élégance in book form, showcasing such icons as the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, Aston Martin DB5, and Maserati Sebring, as well as a multitude of extraordinary cars with remarkable histories — whether owned by well-known personalities or ushered in extraordinary successes on the racetrack. Many of these cars were produced in minimal runs or are one of few surviving models. In addition to the vehicles themselves, this must-have classic car book also shows the institutions and key players behind the exclusive vintage car scene. With large, never-before-seen collections and their collectors, Classic Cars Review provides exclusive insights into the world of the largest classic car auction houses, the most innovative classic car dealers, and all the key vintage car events.

About the Author:

Michael Görmann does not have a job. At least, not in the conventional sense. For nearly 30 years, he has been working with his hobbies exclusively. The finer things in life-writing about and photographing them. Goermann's favorite topics: Anything that in some way moves. It should be loud and also smell like burnt rubber. The smell of gasoline is like perfume to him. His other subjects are watches and technical gadgets of all sorts. Is the engineering sophisticated and precise? Does it have buttons or controls? Does it require electricity or gas? If the answer to any of these is yes, then it is on his hunting radar. Goermann "hones in on" such quarry for an array of media outlets. After having finished his practical training at a daily newspaper, his experience includes having been the chief reporter of UHREN-MAGAZIN, (a magazine about watches), after which he founded two agencies and worked for publications such as Focus, Robb Report, Playboy, and Stern.

François Leperlier
ID: 18861
Издательство: Thames & Hudson

Claude Cahun (1894–1954), the chosen name of the artist born Lucy Schwob, was best known in her lifetime as a writer but built up a remarkable body of photographic work that only came to prominence after her death.

Politically active and involved with a wide circle of artists and intellectuals, including the Surrealists, Cahun followed her own rules in both life and art. She is best known for her strikingly staged self-portraits, in which she used costumes, makeup and technical effects to tackle themes of identity and self-representation. Her love of symmetry, mirroring, repurposing and retouching was also reflected in her approach to other styles of photography, including portraiture, photomontage and still-life tableaux.

Whether working alone or in collaboration with her life partner Marcel Moore (born Suzanne Malherbe), Claude Cahun was a pioneering figure in the aesthetics of modernity who never stopped crossing boundaries of gender and genre.

About the Author:

François Leperlier is a French writer, essayist, poet, philosopher and art historian, known especially for his work on the surrealist writer and photographer Claude Cahun. He has dedicated a large part of his life's work to the rehabilitation and recognition of Cahun's creative works, having rediscovered her nearly forty years after her death in 1954.

Tomasz Gudzowaty
ID: 11292
Издательство: Steidl Verlag

Tomasz Gudzowaty became established as a wildlife documentary photographer in 1999, when he won the first of his World Press Photo awards in the nature category with a remarkable image of two cheetah cubs just about to take down their first prey. He has since traveled extensively through- out sub-Saharan Africa, amassing thousands of images of elephants, lions, cheetahs, wildebeest, zebras and other species. In 2008 Gudzowaty documented a remote emperor penguin colony in the Weddell Sea, a project he continued through his work on South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

Gudzowaty’s wildlife photography is characterized by a technical and aesthetic sophistication that is particularly visible in his depictions of large-scale natural spectacles, such as the annual wildebeest migration in Tanzania or the breeding season on the penguin rookeries. This book captures Gudzowaty’s passion and deep knowledge of his subject: keenly observing both general patterns and minute details, he brings the viewer closer to nature’s inner workings and beauty.

Michael Köckritz

Издательство: teNeues

"Coolness" - on the one hand today a fashion word devoid of content, on the other a self-confidently lived, late-modern individual attitude and behavioral strategy with rebellious roots against a twisted and unjust world.

But what does the word "cool" actually mean and what does it mean "to be cool"? How does "coolness" become tangible? What makes coolness so appealing? Where do the terms come from? How has the matter evolved?
Which facets do we encounter when we take a closer look?

Michael Köckritz gets to the bottom of these questions with a holistic view, researches and collages history and stories, talks to interdisciplinary experts about backgrounds and developments, characteristics and criteria, identifies with you the icons and personalities that so strikingly shape our modern image of coolness. The result is an entertainingly stimulating as well as creative journey of discovery approaching the facets of a timelessly fascinating phenomenon of longing.

This reflected, precise look at the concepts of cool and coolness becomes an impressive plea for coolness as a timelessly modern, emotional experience and self-confident "attitude" that lives attractively from a refusal of bourgeois norms and not fitting in, and at the same time fascinates with a distinctly aesthetic dimension.

__________

- A richly-illustrated homage to coolness as an attitude and an aesthetic
- An edgy project, both a documentary and a work of art, with a stunning visual execution and packed with creative energy
- Amusing, entertaining, yet also tremendously rich in layers given its interdisciplinary perspective

Cool. Whether it's a cool guy, cool sunglasses, or a cool film - the attribute 'cool', which until the early '90s was still the definitive identifier of rebellious youth culture speech, is now encountered globally and across all social classes in an almost inflationary manner.

The adjective 'cool' is now regarded as a vague paraphrase for something positively casual, and is particularly fond of offering itself to us with an aura of self-confident modernity and stylistic confidence. Unfortunately, whoever says 'cool' today often just means a fashion word, representative of who or what is currently hip and what is not. Everything that is somehow hip, trendy or 'in' is called 'cool'. Everything should, and everyone wants, to be cool.

On the one hand, 'coolness' is an empty buzzword, on the other hand, it is a self-confident, late-modern individual attitude and behavioural strategy with rebellious roots against a twisted and unjust world.

About the Author:

As a journalist, author, artist and media maker, Michael Köckritz always succeeds in setting attention-grabbing impulses in the context of contemporary and future topics as well as lifestyle and luxury worlds with good-humoured ease. As publisher and editor-in-chief, he has realised numerous book and lifestyle magazine formats that have regularly won numerous national and international awards for years. The car culture magazine ramp, the men's lifestyle magazine rampstyle and the design magazine ramp.design are published internationally and are considered style-setting.

Издательство: Steidl Verlag

This is the first publication on American artist Curtis Moffat who is known for his dynamic abstract photographs, innovative color still lifes and some of the most glamorous society portraits of the early twentieth century. Moffat was also a pivotal figure in Modernist interior design and furniture. Living in London throughout the 1920s and early ’30s during the era of the “Bright Young Things,” Moffat produced stylish photographic portraits of leading figures in high society, stage, theater and the arts, including Cecil Beaton, The Sitwells, Nancy Cunard, Lady Diana Cooper, Tallulah Bankhead and Daphne Du Maurier.

In 2003 and 2007, Moffat’s daughter, Penelope Smail, generously donated his extensive archive to the Victoria and Albert Museum. This book is drawn from that archive and also includes digital reconstructions of color images from original tri-carbro process black-and-white negatives. It reveals Moffat’s pioneering yet little-known photography in all its depth and beauty.

Widely considered Japan’s most influential and prolific photographer, Daido Moriyama has been challenging conventions of the art form for more than a half-century.

This exhaustive and electrifying retrospective, published in cooperation with the Daido Moriyama Foundation and based on entirely new research, looks at every stage of Moriyama’s extensive career, including his extraordinary images as well as his conceptual contributions to photography.

One of a generation of postwar Japan’s groundbreaking artists, Moriyama has continually established his own visual grammar. This book features more than 190 chronologically arranged images that reveal his constantly evolving career: his early editorial work of the mid-1960s, focused on the American occupation and the experimental theater; his radical experimentation of late 1960s and the 1970s; the self-reflexive photos of the 1980s and 1990s; and his ongoing exploration of cities, among other relevant moments. It also includes more than 400 spreads from Moriyama’s rarely-seen publications, mapping the sources of his visual production. Rounding out the volume are texts by the editor and leading Japanese scholars, a personal essay by the artist, and a full chronology of his life and work. Accompanying a major exhibition on Moriyama’s output this impressive volume reframes Moriyama’s legacy, and is certain to become the definitive publication on his work.
