John Kurdewan, Steven Stolman, Photographs by Bill Cunningham
ID: 16078
Издательство: Rizzoli

Celebrate Bill Cunningham — the iconic New York Times photographer who chronicled society and fashion — with his images of the vibrant events of spring and summer.

Bill Cunningham (1929-2016) embraced the colors, carefree beauty, and escapism of spring outings and summer parties as both a photographer and an astute fashion documentarian. His camera captured the showstopping hats and dresses worn by society ladies at the annual Central Park Conservancy luncheons, the gorgeous gowns sweeping the dance floors of tented galas in Newport and the Hamptons, and the authentic vintage outfits sported by young attendees at summertime jazz and swing-dance festivals. For decades, Cunningham's two weekly columns for the Times remained at the top of every fashionista's go-to list, presenting not only a comprehensive chronicle of the looks of the day but also an insider's view of the glamorous parties and philanthropic events that are part of the social whirl.

This celebration of Cunningham's genius for capturing magical moments with extraordinary style provides a heartfelt insiders' tribute to one of photojournalism's greatest legends.

About the Authors:

John Kurdewan served as Bill Cunningham's right-hand man, professionally and personally, for more than a decade. He continues to work as a production artist at The New York Times. Steven Stolman is a Palm Beach-based author and designer. He has contributed to such publications as Town & CountryElle Decor, and Architectural Digest. Ruben Toledo is a Cuban-American artist. His late wife was the celebrated designer Isabel Toledo. Henry Leutwyler, Gerhard Steid, Juergen Teller, Werner Bartsch, Carl Birkenstock
ID: 18266
Издательство: Steidl Verlag

Celebrating 250 years of family tradition in shoemaking, Old Mills Never Die explores the past, present and future of one of the world’s most remarkable and democratic footwear brands.

From dedicated customers who buy and re-buy their beloved shoes throughout their lives to collaborations with luxury houses such as Dior and Valentino, Birkenstock both sets and transcends trends, offering something for everyone — and for everyone the same: quality, comfort and sustainability.

Old Mills Never Die comprises five books of varied size and design, each reflecting a different aspect of the Birkenstock universe. In “Walk This Way” Henry Leutwyler photographs the little-known treasures of Birkenstock’s archive. In “Factories” Werner Bartsch documents some of the Birkenstock works and their over 6,000 employees who combine the most advanced production technology with traditions of hand craftsmanship. Juergen Teller captures Birkenstocks as the ultimate fashion object on the feet of everyday people in “Golborne Road.” “Graphic Designer” reveals the pioneering graphic art and typography of Carl Birkenstock (1900–82). Finally, the “Book of Birkenstock” is an ambitious timeline of the company from 1774 till today.

Wrapped in a Furoshiki cloth and packed in a wooden box, Old Mills Never Die is the first publication to comprehensively present Birkenstock’s ongoing story and place in cultural history — in its own words, “often copied, never equaled.”

Dereck Joubert, Beverly Joubert
ID: 16098
Издательство: Rizzoli

Following a lifetime of animal rescue and African wildlife conservation efforts, Beverly and Dereck Joubert raise the alarm to the plight of the rhino. This oversize volume is both a celebration of these magnificent animals and a call to action to save them from vanishing forever.

Blood Moon tells the tale of the extraordinary efforts to rescue rhinos from high-poaching zones in South Africa and save the species in secret locations in Botswana. Involving the help of military personnel, planes, helicopters, and private-sector gunboats, this is an action-packed story. The breathtaking images and riveting prose not only capture the never-before-seen rescue of rhinos, but also transcend wildlife publishing to celebrate the life of these elusive animals and the vanishing habitats of Africa.
This book takes wildlife imagery to a new level. Here, the striking black-and-white photography is paired with the use of red, which has always been symbolic of wealth in the East, the largest market for rhino horns. Blood Moon is an inspiring demonstration of what humanity can do if we try to turn back extinction.

Proceeds from this book benefit the Great Plains Foundation, with a mission to conserve and expand natural habitats in Africa through education programs, community initiatives, and wildlife and environmental stewardship in Botswana, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. Great Plains Conservation and its Foundation manage over 1,000,000 acres of land in sub-Saharan Africa with plans to expand to 5,000,000 acres across a variety of critically important and fragile landscapes throughout Africa.

About the Author:

Dereck and Beverly Joubert are conservationists, National Geographic Explorers at Large, filmmakers, authors, and photographers. Jane Goodall, known for her landmark chimpanzee study, is the most recognizable figure in conservation today.

Against the Grain

Since its beginnings in Paris in the mid-19th century, the idea of bohemia, an urban community of artists and intellectuals living outside bourgeois norms, has been a potent trope of artistic identity. It was here that the notion of an unconventional, free-spirited life, precarious yet filled with idealism, was codified and romanticized. Bohemia: History of an Idea, 1950 – 2000 shows the continuities and differences between the scenes and subcultures of the second half of the twentieth century, when the mainstream began to appropriate and thereby erode a way of life predicated on its rejection. Nonetheless, as an alternative to conformity the bohemian idea has exerted an enduring fascination. Through works by 39 artists, including Alice Neel, PeterHujar, John Deakin, David Wojnarowicz, Ed van der Elsken, Robert Frank and Alfred Leslie, William Gedney, Libuše Jarcovjáková, Nan Goldin, Zhang Huan and Wolfgang Tillmans, the publication explores the diversity of expressions in various cities in Europe, North America and Asia and shows that the bohemian idea continues to galvanize and inspire.

About the Author:

Russell Ferguson is a research professor at the University of California’s Art Department. During his tenure at the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, he curated numerous exhibitions on culture and representation in contemporary art and photography.

Tomas Maier, Foreword by Tim Blanks, Contributions by Daphne Merkin
ID: 16387
Издательство: Rizzoli

In 2002, Tomas Maier, Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director, launched the Art of Collaboration — a project that invites a world-renowned photographer or contemporary artist to collaborate on the Italian brand’s campaign for each season. With more than a thousand photographs, this book chronicles the comprehensive series of creative partnerships since the beginning.

Divided by each seasonal campaign from 2002 to 2016, Bottega Veneta: Art of Collaboration documents the collaborations between Tomas Maier and all the artists who have contributed to the creation of Bottega Veneta’s advertising portfolio including Lord Snowdon, Annie Leibovitz, Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, Robert Longo, Nan Goldin, Nick Knight, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, and others.

These creative individuals translate Bottega Veneta’s timeless and refined elegance into beautifully cinematic campaigns season after season. Tomas Maier, whose résumé includes positions at Sonia Rykiel and Hermès, joined Bottega Veneta in 2001 as Creative Director and re-established the original identity of the brand founded in Vicenza in 1966, focusing on its values and original motto, “When your own initials are enough.” Since joining, Maier guided the company with his distinctive vision of functional design and holistic creativity built around the dynamism of the collaborative process. Collaboration at Bottega Veneta is not only a meaningful alliance between the creative vision of its designer and the innovative techniques of the Italian master craftspeople, but extends to the way Bottega Veneta partners with talents on its advertising portfolio, and other initiatives.

Featuring some of today’s brightest visionaries working in photography, often from outside the world of fashion, Bottega Veneta: Art of Collaboration illustrates how they have each interpreted the house’s modernist aesthetic and material elegance, resulting in a book that will be an essential volume for photography aficionados.

About the Authors:

Tomas Maier has been the Creative Director of Bottega Veneta since 2001, and he also designs his own label, Tomas Maier. Daphne Merkin is a novelist, essayist, and literary critic. Tim Blanks is an award-winning fashion journalist. Bottega Veneta has established a new standard of luxury since its founding in the Veneto region of Italy in 1966. Steeped in the traditions of Italy’s master leather craftsmen and long celebrated for its extraordinary leather goods, it has recently emerged—under the creative direction of Tomas Maier — as one of the world’s premier high-end lifestyle brands defined by four unchanging principles: outstanding craftsmanship, innovative design, contemporary functionality, and the highest quality materials. The company’s motto, “When your own initials are enough,” expresses a philosophy of individuality and confidence that applies to a range of products including ready-to-wear, shoes, jewelry, fragrances, home, and more.

Marla Hamburg Kennedy

Издательство: Rizzoli

Brooklyn has seen exponential change over the past fifteen years, and this book presents the best work of the photographers from all over the world who have been capturing those changes and movements in cityscapes, portraits, vignettes, and process-oriented photography.

Brooklyn Photographs Now reflects the avant-garde spirit of the city’s hippest borough, containing previously unpublished work by well-known and emerging contemporary artists. The book presents 250 images by more than seventy-five established and new artists, including Mark Seliger, Jamel Shabazz, Ryan McGinley, Mathieu Bitton, and Michael Eastman, among many others. The book documents the physical and architectural landscape and reflects and explores an off-centered — and therefore a less-seen and more innovative — perspective of how artists view this borough in the twenty-first century. This is the “now” Brooklyn that we have yet to see in pictures: what might seem to be an alternative city but is actually the crux of how it visually functions in the present day. This unique collection of images is the perfect book for the photo lover and sophisticated tourist alike.

About the Author:

Marla Hamburg Kennedy is a leading dealer and adviser for twentieth- and twenty-first-century art with an emphasis on contemporary painting and photography. Bryan Adams
ID: 18832
Издательство: Steidl Verlag

This is the long-awaited reprint of Bryan Adams’ first comprehensive monograph of his portrait photography. In the late 1990s Adams became curious about making photographic self-portraits for his album covers, and so chose to pick up the camera himself. This serendipitous decision proved the beginning of a successful photographic career parallel to Adams’ impressive achievements as a singer, songwriter and producer. Exposed is a retrospective of his photography and features portraits of friends and colleagues in the entertainment, fashion and art industries. Including Morrissey, Ben Kingsley, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, Louise Bourgeois, Lindsay Lohan and Judi Dench, among many others, the book “exposes” not only unknown facets of his subjects but also the depth of Adams’ photographic faculty.

About the Author:

Bryan Adams, born in 1959 in Ontario, divides his time between music and photography. Adams has photographed for magazines including Interview, i-D, Harper’s Bazaar, and British and German Vogue. In 2003 he founded Zoo Magazine for which he has received a Goldene Feder Award. In 2006 Adams was honored with a German Lead Award for his series of photographs of Mickey Rourke. Adams’ exhibitions include those held at the Saatchi Gallery and National Portrait Gallery in London, and Haus der Kunst in Munich. Steidl has published Adams’ Exposed (2012), Wounded: The Legacy of War (2013), Untitled (2016) and Homeless (2019).
