With texts by Robert Doisneau

Издательство: Schirmer/Mosel Verlag

A declaration of love to Paris in 600 photographs, arranged in strolls through the city and through time.

As a photographer, Robert Doisneau is known for his ability to infuse images of daily life with poetic nuance that imbued his photojournalism with an enduring popular appeal. The unprecedented scope of this collection provides the opportunity to study his more composed, aesthetically structured images alongside his snapshots, which offer a more anecdotal account of Doisneau's Paris. Organized thematically, the book leads us on an entrancing tour through the gardens of Paris, along the Seine, and through the crowds of Parisians who define their beloved city. More than 600 photographs-many rare, forgotten, and previously unpublished-are assembled in this beautiful volume to create a unique portrait of Paris. From toddlers scrambling to cross rue de Rivoli to fresh-faced accordionists, from elegant dog walkers to exuberant roller skaters, and from the indelible kiss in front of the Hétel de Ville to cyclists beneath the Eiffel Tower, the magic of Paris in black and white is a timeless treasure. The photographs, edited by Doisneau's daughter, are complemented by citations from the photographer himself, which reveal his profound fascination with the city where he lived and worked.

During the golden age when Montparnasse was teeming with artists, Robert Doisneau gained remarkable access to the artists working in Paris from 1937 onwards, and he visited their studios and caught them in various private moments: working, reflecting, and even playing with their children. This book, which includes some previously unpublished photographs, shares Doisneau’s intimate view on the work and lives of these artists. Many remain famous - Picasso, David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Giacometti, Saul Steinberg, Marcel Duchamp, Le Corbusier, Foujita - while others have fallen into obscurity, perhaps one day to be rediscovered. Regardless of the artist’s social status - whether major figure of the day or struggling newcomer - Doisneau approached each subject with the same humble eye. His signature black-and-white photographs capture the nostalgia of the period and bear witness to these artists in the act of creating some of the world’s finest art. This book, published in cooperation with Doisneau’s daughters, is a fascinating document of the daily lives of artists by one of the world’s most famous and popular photographers.

The allure of postwar Italy continues to seduce and captivate us, and now our love affair is rekindled through these remarkable and candid photos of stars whose timeless glamour endures: Audrey Hepburn with her hairstylist; Anna Magnani hailing a cab in Rome; Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini on Capri.

The Italy of the 1950s and '60s was a time of high style that bedazzled Americans and ignited a love of all things Italian, particularly film and fashion. Through these unabashed portraits of the cult of celebrity, we can revisit an Italy that was sensuous yet innocent, simple yet courageous, cosmopolitan yet insulated.

This book is both a visually stunning tribute to larger-than-life personas and a unique reminiscence of a time when being bold and outrageous was to be at the height of fashion. With more than 130 lovingly executed duotone separations, Dolce Italia celebrates la dolce vita and allows us to relive this stylish era anew.

DOLOMITI is the first in a collection of annual books on the Dolomites, with a different and more detailed view than that offered by the traditional iconography of this place, recently declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. This view, the result of the overlapping work in photography, architecture and urban planning is explained together with research on the alpine landscape produced by the Dolomites Workshop, established at the University of Trento in cooperation with other European schools of architecture. This first volume consists of original images by photographer Gregor Sailer and a series of texts describing the various stages of the UNESCO nomination process.

Burton Holmes
ID: 5638
Издательство: Taschen

It was the Belle Époque, a time before air travel or radio, at the brink of a revolution in photography and filmmaking, when Burton Holmes (1870–1958) began a lifelong journey to bring the world home. From the grand boulevards of Paris to China's Great Wall, from the construction of the Panama canal to the 1906 eruption of Mount Vesuvius, Holmes delighted in finding "the beautiful way around the world" and made a career of sharing his stories, colorful photographs, and films with audiences across America.

As a young man, Holmes was mentored by John L. Stoddard, a pioneer of the U.S. travel lecture circuit, who passed on his well-established mantle when he retired. Holmes roamed the globe throughout the summer and traversed the United States all winter, transforming the staid lecture tradition into an entertaining show. He coined the term "travelogue" in 1904 to advertise his unique performance and thrilled audiences with two-hour sets of stories timed to projections of multihued hand-painted glass-lantern slides and some of the first "moving pictures."

Paris, Peking, Dehli, Dubrovnik, Moscow, Manila, Jakarta, Jerusalem: Burton Holmes was there. He visited every continent and nearly every country on the planet, shooting over 30,000 photographs and nearly 500,000 feet of film. This book represents the best of the Holmes archive, brimming with brilliant color photographs. A rare window on the world of 100 years ago, Burton Holmes's Early Travel Photography will transport you to a time that has all but evaporated, and inspire you to strike out on a journey of your own.
