The first illustrated book that comprehensively illuminates the subject of hunting.

The perfect gift – for young hunters, veteran hunters and interested non-hunters, because here everyone learns something new!
With topics, which are to be found otherwise in no illustrated book: hunting in the art, hunt ethics and celebrities, which are connected with the hunt
The coffee table book by Peter Feierabend and Sascha Numßen from the Ultimate series delves into one of humanity's oldest activities: hunting. Hunting - The Ultimate Book sheds light on hunting from all angles for the first time.

Feierabend and Numßen comprehensively explore the various aspects closely related to hunting in an impressive and holistic manner. Richly illustrated and accompanied by informative texts, they introduce the evolution of hunting attire, the different hunting weapons, and wildlife. They also guide readers through the grandest social hunting events that frame hunting as a pastime in high society.

Furthermore, the two authors focus on the animal companions of hunters. Highly sensitive tracking dogs, trained birds of prey, and noble hunting horses are introduced in this in-depth photo book. Of course, hunting techniques, trophies, and the art associated with hunting are also featured in this impressive work.

But, in addition to hunting techniques and methods, the authors also aim to depict the transformation that hunting has undergone in recent years. In times of an increasingly critical society, hunting can no longer be simply justified by tradition alone. Therefore, Feierabend and Numßen have given topics like animal protection and conservation a special place in this high-calibre and informative work, viewing them as an initiative motivation for hunting.

For anyone wanting to learn more about equipment, wildlife, weapons, and the social background of hunting, this book is the perfect coffee table book.

Text in English and German.

About the Author:

On almost every bookshelf, designer, editor, and author Peter Feierabend will find one of the approximately 3,000 book titles he has worked on, and it's far from Feierabend's end. Born in Hanover, he has lived in Cologne for 25 years after studying design at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
Sascha Numßen (52) studied forestry in Munich. His studies were immediately followed by a traineeship at a publishing house. After taking over as an editor at the hunting magazine Wild und Hund and several years as editor-in-chief at the international gun magazine VISIER, his path led him to the marketing department of the hunting gun manufacturer J.P. Sauer & Sohn in the Allgäu for three years before he occupied the editor-in-chief's chair at the magazine PIRSCH in Munich for over nine years. By setting up the Southwest Editorial Office, Numßen was able to hang up his career and finally "get back on the road" to find good stories for the magazine. Since July 2023, he has been living and hunting with his wife Julia and his Magyar Vizsla dog "Piroschka" at beautiful Lake Balaton in Hungary.

Poem of Colors. The most remarkable abodes from Costa Careyes to the Yucatán Peninsula

South of the border, rich colors and woven textiles form a unique design aesthetic, crafted by the union of local Aztec and Mayan cultures and Spanish influences. Rise and Sprawl: How Los Angeles Came To Be. A pictorial history of the City of Angels

From the first known photograph taken in Los Angeles to its most recent sweeping vistas, this photographic tribute to the City of Angels provides a fascinating journey through the city's cultural, political, industrial, and sociological history. It traces the city's development from the 1880s' real estate boom, through the early days of Hollywood and the urban sprawl of the late 20th century, right up to the present day. With over 500 images, L.A. is shown emerging from a desert wasteland to become a vast palm-studded urban metropolis.

Events that made world news - including two Olympics, Bobby Kennedy's assassination, and the Rodney King riots - reveal a city of many dimensions. The entertainment capital of the world, Hollywood, and its celebrities are showcased along with many other notable residents, personalities, architects, artists, and musicians. The city's pop cultural movements, its music, surfing, health food fads, gangs, and hot rods are included, as are its notorious crimes and criminals. This book depicts Los Angeles in all its glory and grit, via hundreds of freshly discovered images including those of Julius Shulman, Garry Winogrand, William Claxton and many other superb photographers, culled from major historical archives, museums, private collectors, and universities. These are given context and resonance through essays by renowned California historian Kevin Starr and Los Angeles literature expert David L. Ulin.

Poses of Peace. Michael O’Neill’s meditation on the essence of yoga

It’s taken yoga several thousand years to journey from a handful of monasteries dotting the Himalayas to the myriad studios of London, Lower Manhattan, and beyond. Whether bathing with holy men in the Ganges or joining the chorus of a thousand voices chanting “om,” photographer Michael O’Neill decided to devote himself to experiencing and recording the world of yoga at this critical juncture in its history. The result is a powerful photographic tribute to the age-old discipline turned global phenomenon, with over 250 million practitioners united in physical, spiritual, and mindful practice worldwide.

Famous for his photographs of the famous, O’Neill first set out to make portraits of the most influential yogis of our time — B. K. S. Iyengar, T. K. V. Desikachar, and Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, among others — as well as those known for integrating yoga into their high-profile lives, such as Donna Karan, Sting, and Trudie Styler. But as his yoga and meditation practice deepened, so did his drive to look past the personalities and the poses to document the roots of yoga. Over ten years O’Neill trekked beyond the traditional epicenters to meditate with monks in the Tibetan Plateau, live with sadhus in their tents at the Kumbh Mela, and marvel at the boys who practice the little-known discipline of Mallakhamba at the wrestling grounds in Kochi.

This extraordinary body of work tells the story of yoga as it’s never been told before, with nearly 200 photographs. Two of O’Neill’s most important subjects, meditation master His Holiness Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji and yogi Eddie Stern, join the conversation with their essays on the role of yoga in contemporary culture, the history of the practice from the time of Patanjali, and the healing power of “the architecture of peace,” a series of postures that bring the practitioner closer to touching the infinite.

The photographer:

In his five-decade career, Michael O’Neill has photographed the cultural icons of his time, from Andy Warhol to the Dalai Lama, for publications including the New York Times MagazineRolling Stone, and Vanity Fair. He has had solo shows of his work at Visa pour l’image (Perpignan, France); at II Mes Internacional da Fotografia (São Paulo, Brazil); and Houk Friedman (New York). His photographs reside in the collections of the Walker Art Center, among other museums. He is the subject of the 2017 documentary On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace.

The contributing authors:

Eddie Stern is a yoga teacher, author, app creator, and lecturer from New York City. His practical approach to teaching and practicing yoga is a mix of science, religion, philosophy, and social service.

H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji is one of India’s most revered and beloved spiritual leaders. He is President of Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh (home of the annual International Yoga Festival) and founder of Global Interfaith WASH Alliance, Divine Shakti Foundation, and Ganga Action Parivar, and India Heritage Research Foundation.

Mountains, one of nature’s greatest masterpieces, in their rugged beauty, breathtaking views from the top, clear air, green pastures, mountain lakes and glaciers, have captivated mankind all along. Climbing mountains or just gazing at their majestic splendour causes us to slow down and contemplate, maybe even giving us a little serenity.

Photographer Tim Hall beautifully captures the powerful solace of mountains in his images. He often chooses to shoot in dramatic weather, making his work and the photographed mountains look even more stunning and transcendent. The intention to strike an emotional or spiritual chord is evident in much of his landscape work, which is inspired by Rothko and Turner. The influence of painting in his work stems from his studies of Art History at Manchester University.

Mountains: Beyond the Clouds presents the extensive Alpine mountain range, including famous landmarks such as the Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, and the Dolomites.

About the Author:

Tim Hall is a British Fine Art Photographer, who specializes in travel, landscape, and portraiture. His drive to see the world through the lens of a camera was inspired by the romance of 19th-century travellers and more recently, National Geographic photographers. The work is a lyrical response to the people and places that he has visited and shows his deep interest in the urban and natural world as well as the people who inhabit them. With over 20 years of experience as a project-based photographer, his works are often conceived as a series, exhibited as a collective body, or bought as single pieces. Tim lives in London and is represented by contemporary art galleries across Europe, South East Asia, and the USA.

Michael Blann

An expanded edition of the popular landscape and photography book, celebrating the most majestic mountains and historic cycling climbs for enthusiasts and participants around the world.

The mountains of Europe have many different meanings to many different people. For the locals they are a way of life; for visitors they represent breathtaking beauty, active holidays and peaceful moments. For cyclists, however, the dramatic landscapes mean something quite different: suffering, pain, agony and glory. For over a century the mountains have provided the setting for the greatest cycling contests, where human determination and willpower can triumph over nature and opponents.

In recent years, as cycling s popularity has changed our cities, made us more active and taken us down less-travelled roads, the mountains of Europe have become the primary destination for everyday riders who want to challenge themselves, experience the storied roads and escape their everyday lives. This publication is aimed at all who wish to be inspired by those challenges or celebrate those personal victories. With tributes and personal recollections from leading road cyclists, the photographs and words coalesce into a visual depiction that transcends any single perspective and will inspire awe and wonder in anyone who wishes to confront the power of the mountains.

Table of Contents:

Introduction by Michael Blann • The Art of Mountains, Susannah Osborne • The French Alps • The Pyrenees & Mont Ventoux • Switzerland • Spain • The Spanish Islands & Portugal • The Italian Alps & The Dolomites • Essays interwoven throughout

About the Authors:

Professional photographer and keen amateur cyclist Michael Blann spent his formative years racing his bike and dreaming of riding in the Tour de France. Aged nineteen, he left England for Australia to ride in a well-respected amateur team, during which he competed in the nine-day Golden West Tour in Queensland. This experience left him with the realization that a pro contract was out of reach. Returning to the UK, he enrolled in art college and eventually moved into advertising. This book brings together Blann’s two great passions – cycling and photography – and evolved from a desire to produce a definitive record of the immense, immovable landforms that have set the stage for the most intense, nail-biting dramas the cycling world has ever seen. Limited-edition prints are available at www.michaelblann.com.

Andrew Diprose is Group Creative Director at WIRED magazine in London and a keen cyclist. He lectures regularly on art direction, photography and illustration. He is also the co-founder, publisher and art director of cycling independent title The Ride Journal.

Susannah Osborne is a journalist and has written for numerous newspapers and magazines on the subjects of travel, fitness and adventure sport. She has cycled since her late teens, first as a means to get around her native North Devon, and later as an active member of the women’s road and criterium racing scene in the UK. She worked and cycled with Michael Blann for several years before teaming up with him on this book, which appeals to her love of storytelling and her long-standing fascination with dramatic landscapes.

Gorgeously illustrated with NASA photography, the large-format (30 × 30 cm) NASA Missions to Mars examines everything from the first tentative steps toward the fourth planet to the 2021 landing of rover Perseverance and beyond.

Space exploration has always been about pushing boundaries, but perhaps the achievement which has most piqued a sense of possibility has been the exploration of Mars. Beginning with Soviet and American flybys in the early 1960s that were part and parcel of the Space Race, acclaimed space historian Piers Bizony continues through complete coverage of the Viking 1 and 2 missions of 1975–1976. Bizony also traces NASA’s acclaimed rover program, describing the development, technologies, mission histories, and achievements of the rovers SojournerOpportunitySpirit, and Curiosity — all on the 25th anniversary of their first landing.

This awe-inspiring book features:

- An engaging and complete history of Mars exploration
- A treasure trove of imagery from the NASA archives, including photos and cartography beamed home, artworks and concept drawings created during development phases, as well as photography created to document testing phases
- A glimpse of future plans for Mars exploration and habitation
- Coverage of orbiters sent to the red planet by not only NASA but by space agencies from Russia, India, Japan, Europe, China, and the UAE
- A two-sided 60 cm gatefold

Humankind’s fascination with Mars can be traced back to prewar science fiction. While the billions of dollars and ingenious innovations have allowed us incredible views from more than 51 million miles away, no less incredible are the insights these missions, hardware, and scientists have provided into our universe — and our own planet. NASA Missions to Mars is your complete illustrated history of those efforts and a necessary volume for the bookshelf of any space enthusiast!

Written and curated by recognized historians of space exploration, NASA Space Shuttle: 40th Anniversary is the authoritative photo history of the iconic space program.

Officially known as the Space Transportation System (STS), the Space Shuttle program operated from 1981 to 2011. During that time, five Shuttle systems took part in 135 missions under the operation of NASA. This approach — namely reusable spacecraft —revolutionized space exploration. NASA Space Shuttle: 40th Anniversary traces the STS’s 30-year operational history. Essays by former NASA chief historian Roger Launius are accompanied by a collection of incredible Shuttle photography and imagery mined from the depths of NASA’s archives by aerospace historian Piers Bizony — all of it presented in large-format color.

Readers will witness the pre-1981 evolution, the missions, astronauts, ground personnel and infrastructure, and amazing accomplishments of the Shuttle program and its spacecraft: ColumbiaChallengerDiscoveryAtlantis, and Endeavour. From the launch site at Cape Kennedy, Florida, to mission control in Houston, Texas, to the landing site at Edwards Air Force Base, all aspects of Shuttle operation are covered, including key roles in efforts such as the Hubble Telescope and International Space Station, as well as the tragedies of Challenger and Columbia disasters.

Every carefully chosen image in NASA Space Shuttle: 40th Anniversary tells an aspect of the Shuttle story. The resulting book is not only a unique view of a key chapter of NASA history — it’s a compelling collection of stunning NASA photography and illustrations.
