Delicious Places is digging deep into a new wave of food places that are going beyond being venues to eat out.
Restaurants, cafés and bars are transforming into places where entire concepts are evolving to create whole new experiences for eaters. They offer a unique experience that starts the moment you set foot in the door and spans from the interiors to the branding, and behind the scenes to the supply chains and sustainable procedures.
Take a seat at the table and feast your senses one by one.
The first book from AD100 interior designer Corey Damen Jenkins, known for his colorful, youthful traditionalism.
Corey Damen Jenkins's bold interiors have won a devoted following. In his first book, he presents his take on classic interiors that have been beautifully reimagined for today's taste, sharing the building blocks of this fun, vibrant traditional look. "Bold Standard" is about how to use color in unexpected ways. "Good Bones" showcases architectural details. "Less Is More" focuses on creating a minimal look within a traditional interior. "Eclectic Exuberance" celebrates a collected appeal. "Night and Day" is a new look at the classic, graphic pairing of dark and light colors. "Haute House" looks at accessorizing with fashion-inspired elements. "Age Appropriate" is about creating rooms that cater to lounging, and nesting: kids' bedrooms, family rooms, reading nooks, homework areas. With sidebars on practical questions such as how to hang a salon-style picture wall and choosing the right window treatment, this is a must-have book for fans of a fresh, traditional look.

In Designing Japan Hara reveals methods that make publicly accessible aesthetic inquiries of how this island nation will proceed as its population ages, other nations take over manufacturing, and technology develops. Illustrations and examples recognize successful problem-solving through design, proving that it is a living, changing industry that remains relevant not in spite of, but as a partner to, advancing technology.
About the Author:
Kenya Hara (*1958) is considered the most influential designer of present-day Japan. After graduating in design from the Musashino Art University of Kodaira in 1983, he worked as a curator and graphic designer before taking on the role of art director at Muji in 2002. Hara is president of the Nippon Design Center Inc., and head of the department of Science of Design at Musashino Art University. The purpose and primary function of wayfinding and signage design is to provide spatial orientation as quickly and clearly as possible.
Respective concepts and systems can be designed for individual buildings, for example corporate headquarters, museums or hospitals, for areas such as a university campus or distinct municipal district, or for entire systems like a city’s public transport. In addition to communicating direction, the interplay of typography, pictograms, materials, colors and shapes in these systems also delineates a particular identity of the location. On the basis of international realizations this title shows the range of different approaches and implementation possibilities of environmental graphics. No matter what kind of spatial context, the focus is always on visual communication that is understandable for every user. This volume is an indispensable reference work for anyone involved in communications, as well as for architects, interior designers, graphic designers, and indeed creative minds of any sectors.

As many parents know, decorating and furnishing a child's room can be both a pleasure and a problem: you have somehow to find a balance between practicality, playfulness, comfort, safety, originality, and making the most of the space available. Some of the world's best-known designers and design companies have risen to the challenge of creating furniture and accessories specifically for children. Rather than being merely scaled-down adult designs, the best designs for children should respond to their express needs: as well as being durable, safe, and easy to clean, they should nurture a child's development and encourage creativity and the use of imagination. This stylish book presents some 250 designs for children, both iconic pieces of furniture, furnishings, and toys and more recent creations based on the latest technological advances.
From Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Aarnio and Nanna Ditzel through to Marcel Wanders and Javier Mariscal, and from Knoll and Artek to Alessi, MDF Italia, and Magis, the biggest names in design have produced beds, tables, chairs, storage, rugs, cutlery and playthings that can be used from children's earliest days through to the start of adolescence. With a fresh, appealing layout, the book is divided into three main sections - furniture, accessories, and toys - within which the designs are further arranged into such categories as cribs and cots, bookcases, mirrors, mobiles, and rocking horses. Throughout, concise descriptions are accompanied by colorful and lively illustrations.
Whether you are a style-conscious parent seeking ideas for a functional yet fun nursery, bedroom, playroom or study, a design professional or simply a fan of contemporary design, this is an enchanting survey of excellent, clever, child-friendly design.

An exclusive tour through the breathtaking and inspirational interiors of Manhattan’s houses of worship
For the past 15 years, Michael L. Horowitz has been photographing the interiors of Manhattan’s historic churches and synagogues. Though their exteriors are often unassuming and overlooked by passers-by, their interiors are spectacular, uplifting worshippers and architectural devotees alike.
In this book, Horowitz takes us from Lower to Upper Manhattan, from the colorful wall paintings of Bialystocker Synagogue, to the jewel-like stained glass windows of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, to the awe-inspiring wooden ceiling of the Holy Name of Jesus and Saint Gregory the Great Parish. A lively and informative text by Elizabeth Anne Hartman tells the stories behind each of the seventy-five houses of worship featured. These sacred edifices reflect the hopes and aspirations of the many different communities that helped build the metropolis, expressed in numerous architectural and artistic styles. And many of these interiors bear the imprint of notable personalities in Big Apple history, from Clement Moore of “The Night before Christmas” to pioneering Black philanthropist Pierre Toussaint.
This handsome volume, nourishing to the eyes and soul, offers a new perspective on the city to New York residents and visitors alike.
Publisher's note: In the first printing of Divine New York, the photograph on page 125 left is misidentified. It depicts the interior of St. Thomas More (65 East 89th Street), not Saint Thomas Church (1 West 53rd Street).
About the Authors:
Craig R. Whitney is a former assistant manager of the New York Times and the author of All the Stops: The Glorious Pipe Organ and Its American Masters.
