Percy W. Blandford
ID: 9616
Издательство: Dover

Is blacksmithing a lost art? Not according to this master craftsman. It might be one of the world's most ancient crafts, but it remains an exciting and essential one today. Percy W. Blandford presents twenty-four different projects: some are for novices, requiring only a few tools, improvised equipment, and a single propane torch; others call for the skill and equipment of an experienced smith.

Projects include:
- Punches and chisels
- Traditional candlestick
- Door latches and bolts
- Garden tools
- Weather vanes
- Fences and railings
- Tables
- Wheelbarrow
... and many more! A book of ideas and suggestions, rather than an instruction manual on blacksmithing techniques, this volume features eighty detailed figures and diagrams. It also includes lists of materials, step-by-step instructions, and suggestions for variations in design.

Henrietta Spencer-Churchill
ID: 10320
Издательство: Ryland Peters & Small / CICO books

Yet controversy and conflict seethed around the Palace from its very start, thanks to two strong-minded women: Sarah, the wilful first Duchess of Marlborough, who wanted a home fit for a hero, and Queen Anne, who envisaged a glorious monument to England herself and a palace to rival Versailles.

As a palace and monument, Blenheim is spectacularly successful. It is one of the finest examples of English Baroque architecture, decorated and furnished to an equally lavish standard, housing works of art from all over Europe. Blenheim, which attracts around half a million visitors from all over the world each year, is one of Britain's most magnificent houses as George III enviously remarked 'we have nothing to equal this.' But the real story of Blenheim lies with the Spencer-Churchill family, who have lived in it for the past 300 years, and theirs is a story as turbulent, fascinating and momentous as the conflicts that surrounded its origins.

The first book about Blenheim ever written by one of the Spencer-Churchill family, Blenheim and the Churchill Family is filled with anecdotes, gossip, and intrigue, tracing the story of a glamorous dynasty from 1700 to modern times. This is the inside story, pieced together from the family archives, showing how the personalities of each Duke and Duchess influenced the progress of the great house through the centuries.

In his most personal book to date, William Yeoward reveals his passion for color, his inspirations and the 'stories' behind his unique use of color as he takes you on a journey through a dazzling array of beautiful homes.

Known for his chic and stylish color combinations, William Yeoward reveals his color secrets, starting with the classic combination of blue and white — there are cobalt silk sofas, sapphire armchairs, aquamarine patterned ceramics, and indigo plush pillows, all combined to evoke a sense of luxury, in William's trademark style. The unique color stories in the book include red, white, and blue in a villa in France, a comfortable coastal retreat with hints of pink, taking you through to lavender and amethyst in the country and the city, soft grey studies in living rooms and table settings, a blazing ochre red contemporary cottage, an orange rustic barn dinner, and a red and steel outdoor kitchen. This is William’s fourth book and is the first one to focus on his passion for color and the sumptuous interiors that can be created by focusing on details and by layering opulent textures, prints, and proportions.

The Bohemian Modern home is a place where creativity, individuality, and a wild mix of colour and pattern meet in a modern environment.

Whitewashed walls and polished concrete floors are brought to life by vibrant Moroccan rugs and wall hangings; a cosy chair made from wicker suspended from the ceiling, and a veritable jungle of house plants – clustered in pots, hanging from the ceiling or even growing on the walls. The style certainly gives a nod to ’70s chic, with its use of shagpile rugs, Swiss cheese plants, and macramé, but it stands firmly in the present day by boldly contrasting those elements with sleek modern art on the walls and polished concrete worksurfaces.

Emily Henson starts by taking a look at the different facets of the look: pattern and colour, textiles, handmade pieces, living with houseplants, and collections and display. She also offers up styling tricks to use at home and ideas for recycling and reuse. Next, a series of case studies take a closer look at freespirited and creative homes and the people who live in them.

From a restored barn on the coast of Morocco to a former parking garage in the Netherlands that's been converted into a flexible family live/work space, Emily shows that any home can have Bohemian Modern style.

Chaque variété est présentée en couleur avec deux échantillons issus d’un débit sur dosse et sur quartier ; une introduction détaille les caractéristiques de ces deux manières de scier les grumes, et leur influence sur l’aspect du bois. During the 1950s and ‘60s, with its gleaming new space-age capital Brasilia, Brazil was in the vanguard of architecture and design and its interiors still possess a generous dash of glossy modernity and mid-century chic. This sleek contemporary glamour is combined with the rustic, natural materials that are in such generous supply on the South American continent – rough-hewn stone, exotic dark woods and an abundance of jungly greenery.

From city perches in the urban jungle to country homes amid soaring mountains and beach houses sitting serenely above long, unspoilt beaches, Bold and Bright provides a fascinating glimpse into a selection of real-life Brazilian homes.

This book presents several examples of emerging residential architecture, linked by the manner in which they propose innovative and experimental solutions.

Refinement in the finishing, restraint in the layout and painstaking integration of construction elements into the surroundings are just some of the criteria that have to be taken into account in their design. Although each of the houses featured in this selection follows its own stylistical path, they all surprise with their technical resources and the range of sensations they induce.

In all of these houses, the architects have paid special attention to the dynamics found when different family members live together, and they have thus geared their efforts toward seeking a balance between design for design's sake and functionality.

This title features 55 outstanding lofts from all over the world. Lofts are apartments that are generally built into former industrial buildings. They have their origins in the New York of the 1950s. At that time, artists and bohemians in search of cheap places to live and work began to move into abandoned late-nineteenth-century industrial buildings that once had been sweatshops, furniture companies, printmaker shops, warehouses, depositories, and factories. They seized to create a new American version of the Parisian artist's atelier. Nowadays, the tendency to convert warehouses and factories into homes has extended everywhere. Once low-cost living spaces for artists, often occupied illegally by students, they have grown into elegant, luxurious residences reserved for a wealthy elite. This book provides 55 lofts from all over the world, from huge industrial to small business spaces. It is rounded off with more than 600 illustrations, architectural plans and computer graphics.

Any bounded thing in the world, influenced by factors of idea, conception and culture, will form into a concrete one, something bounded. The same sense applies to architectural design.
