Splash provides the inspiration for anyone designing, or dreaming about, their own pool.

This celebration of the style, design, and joy that pools bring to us brims with over 200 glamorous photographs. It is organized by swimming pool design--from glimmering infinity pools with a view of the ocean to dramatic cascading waterfall pools and those in lush garden settings. Ranging from beautifully landscaped backyards to dramatic beaches and tropical paradise surroundings, the stunning pool locales show creative examples of pools as architecture and organic forms. In the mix are seductive pools owned by such celebrities as Cher and Dianne Keaton and leading designers Bunny Williams and Carolyne Roehm, as well as masterpieces by famed architects Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, and Luis Barragán. Splash concludes with a section on poolside elements, from tiled steps, patterned surfaces, and Jacuzzis to pool houses with outdoor showers, landscaping, furnishings, and much more. Every example evokes the enduring and irresistible appeal of the swimming pool.

The first-ever spomenik guidebook, with over 75 examples alongside map references and information on why they exist and who built them.

Spomenik’ the Serbo-Croat/Slovenian word for ‘monument’ – refers to a series of memorials built in Tito’s Republic of Yugoslavia from the 1960s-1990s, marking the horror of the occupation and the defeat of Axis forces during World War II. Hundreds were built across the country, from coastal resorts to remote mountains. Through these imaginative forms of concrete and steel, a classless, forward-looking, socialist society, free of ethnic tensions, was envisaged.

Instead of looking to the ideologically aligned Soviet Union for artistic inspiration, Tito turned to the west and works of abstract expressionism and minimalism. As a result, Yugoslavia was able to develop its own distinct identity through these brutal monuments, which were used as political tools to articulate Tito’s personal vision of a new tomorrow. Today, following the breakup of the country and the subsequent Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s, some have been destroyed or abandoned. Many have suffered the consequences of ethnic tensions – once viewed as symbols of hope they are now the focus of resentment and anger.

This book brings together the largest collection of spomeniks published to date. Each has been extensively photographed and researched by the author, to make this book the most comprehensive survey of this obscure and fascinating architectural phenomenon.

A fold-out map on the reverse of the dust jacket shows the exact location of each spomenik using GPS coordinates.

A richly illustrated and elegant volume showcasing beautifully designed stables by contemporary architects and designers the world over.

From a ranch in the U.S. and a Finnish farmstead to a Spanish hacienda and Australian outback home, Stables is a celebration of horses and their extraordinary lodgings. International in scope, ranging from traditional to contemporary in flavor, these stables -- built of wood, metal, and stone -- are exemplars of the finest taste in design.

The allure of housing horses is a story of architecture, design, landscape, and a unique way of living in magnificent places -- and spaces -- that are made exclusively for horses and for those who love them. The book also explores indoor and outdoor arenas, paddocks, and gardens, providing a humane face to the otherwise functional buildings. Social spaces for the horses, riders, and visitors also play an important role in filling out the projects, making stables not just places for sport but also for entertainment and leisure.

There is a beauty here that reflects the majesty of these animals, the distinctive landscapes in which they are set, and the creative visions of the owners, architects, and designers who have all brought them into being. Beautifully photographed, the book is sure to interest horse aficionados as well as all those interested in engaging, clean, human-scaled design.

About the Authors:

Oscar Riera Ojeda is an editor and designer based in the United States, China, and Argentina, and the director of Oscar Riera Ojeda Publishers. Victor Deupi is an author and teacher of architectural history, theory, and design at the University of Miami School of Architecture in Coral Gables.

Drawing on precedents from antiquity and the Renaissance, from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe as well as Colonial America, White created complex surfaces inside and out.

The events of your life, from local walks to exotic trips, can provide endless inspiration for textile art. This inspiring book shows you how to record your experiences, using sketchbooks, journals and photography, to create personal narratives that can form a starting point for more finished stitched-textile pieces.

Acclaimed textile artist and teacher Cas Holmes, whose work is often inspired by her life and the journeys she makes, helps you find inspiration through your own life and explains how to record what you see in sketchbooks and journals, which can often become beautiful objects in themselves. She explains how you can use photography, both as documentation and as inspiration, and sometimes incorporate it into the work itself, along with found objects and ephemera.

Throughout the book are useful techniques that can be harnessed to add extra interest to your work, such as methods for making layered collages, how to 'sketch' with stitch, and advice on design and colour. If you want to create beautiful, unique work inspired by your life and travels, this is the perfect book for you.

The standard work on Heino Engel’s structure systems is now available at an attractive price.

On the basis of excellent drawings and model photographs, the book examines the various forms of structure systems and explores the relationship between structure system and architectural form in clear and concise prose. In the presentation and explanation of this highly complex discipline, this volume differs fundamentally from other publications on the subject, as the author focuses entirely upon structure systems without regard for the usual technical details. Featured here are typical structure systems and models in lieu of the more commonly treated special designs and completed buildings. As a reference work, the book provides an indispensable repertoire of forms for modern architectural models, summarizing traditional approaches and offering a source of new ideas at the same time.

Janice Lyle, Mark Davidson, Foreword by Michael S. Smith
ID: 16713
Издательство: Vendome Press

The definitive story of the most ambitious and glamorous midcentury modern house in the United States — Sunnylands, the estate of Walter and Lenore Annenberg, in Rancho Mirage, California — now revised and expanded

In Palm Springs, the mecca of midcentury modern architecture, Sunnylands is the undisputed masterpiece. With its celadon green and yellow interior and giddy pink roof, it was a Downton Abbey for the Space Age.

There is no other house like it anywhere. Designed by one of California’s most important architects, A. Quincy Jones, it possesses the only completely preserved interior by Hollywood’s decorator-to-the-stars, William Haines. Completed in 1966, Sunnylands was built by ambassadors Walter and Leonore Annenberg, and became a seat of power where presidents, movie stars, and corporate leaders met, relaxed, and ran the world — with nobody watching.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of Sunnylands to the public, this revised edition adds 32 pages of brand new photography, including: the contemporary visitor center designed by Frederick Fisher & Partners; the mature 15 acres of contemplative gardens by James Burnett; a new LEED Platinum building by o2 Architecture with 17 acres of breathtaking net-zero plantings by CMG Landscape, not open to the public and only accessible within the pages of this book; and public programs and art installations including two for the world-renowned Desert X festival. Lavishly illustrated, this book is a must-have for fans of midcentury design.

About the Authors:

Janice Lyle was the director of the Sunnylands Center & Gardens from 2008 to 2022. Her knowledge of the history of the house and access to the Sunnylands archives is unparalleled. Former executive director of the Palm Springs Art Museum, Lyle has lectured extensively on modern architecture and lived in one of the most famous Palm Springs midcentury houses, Frey II.

Interior designer Michael S. Smith, who was responsible for the 2010 makeover of the Oval Office, designed the interiors of the Sunnylands Center, referencing the aesthetic of the historic house. He lives in Santa Monica and Rancho Mirage.

Interiors photographer Mark Davidson has shot assignments for the Smithsonian, Getty Museum, and Hammer Museum. He lives in Seattle.
