Samuel G. White, Jonathan Wallen
ID: 7837
Издательство: Thames & Hudson
This volume focuses on the residential work of McKim, Mead & White, one of America's best known, most prolific and influential architecture firms. Based in New York and with nearly 1000 commissions executed between 1879 and 1912, the work of McKim, Mead & White included the most prestigious projects of the era: the redesign of the White House and the Mall in Washington DC, the campuses of Harvard and Columbia Universities, the Boston Public Library. But they also lent their sophisticated style to domestic architecture, building summer cottages in Newport and throughout Long Island and the Hudson Valley, and town houses in Boston, Baltimore and New York. These projects were built for the most powerful figures of the age, including the Vanderbilts, Whitneys and Pulitzers. Twenty-eight houses are presented in this book, several shown for he first time and each recorded in colour photographs and analyzed by Samuel G. White, who, as great-grandson of Stanford White, has been given unprecedented access to the houses.

One hundred of the most important and influential architect-designed houses in the world.

With seminal works from such icons as Le Corbusier, Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe, as well as modern-day greats including Tadao Ando, Rem Koolhaas and Herzog & de Meuron, this book presents a stunning array of the past century’s architectural masterpieces.

International in scope and wide-ranging in style, the houses share a remarkable sensitivity to site and context, appreciation of materials and local building traditions, and careful integration of clients’ needs. Each, however, has a unique approach that makes it groundbreaking and radical for its time.

Every house has a history, and this book tells the often intimate stories of these remarkable buildings and their architects and clients. Concise, informative texts and fresh, vibrant illustrations, including specially commissioned photographs and a wealth of floor plans and drawings, offer detailed documentation, while a bibliography, gazetteer and list of houses by type offer further information.

A fresh look at the interiors of Renzo Mongiardino — considered one of the finest designers of the late twentieth century — that will both appeal to past devotees and introduce his work to a new generation of design enthusiasts.

This book explores the sublime work of Renzo Mongiardino (1916–1998), reinforcing his place as a legend in the field. Mongiardino has a background as an acclaimed set designer for stage and film, which had an effect on his work — lush interiors with trompe l’oeil finishes, museum-quality antiques, sumptuous fabrics, and a bewitching theatricality. Clients included elite members of the worlds of fashion, art, and society: Agnelli, Rothschild, Peretti, Radziwill, and Onassis.

Cabana, the au courant interiors magazine, investigates Mongiardino’s work with stunning new photography (many interiors are published here for the first time), thoughtful prose, and animated layouts. This is the most contemporary book on the creations of the modern master and will appeal to connoisseurs of beauty and interior design.

The Knight of Glin, James Peill
ID: 8540
Издательство: Thames & Hudson

It chronicles a remarkable group of houses and castles that have survived the vicissitudes of Ireland’s history and are still in the hands of their original families, taking the reader on an intimate tour of these wonderful homes.

The houses are not the instant creation of trendy decorators – they have evolved over generations, furnished with heirlooms and cherished hand-me-downs, and exuding the unmistakeable scent of peat fires.

Evocative, specially commissioned photographs show inviting living rooms and tousled bedrooms, print-lined hallways and well-trampled mudrooms. Details capture the distinctive personalities of the owners: a red silk bell-pull against green floral wallpaper, a drawer full of two-hundred-year-old love letters, the curve of a wonderfully carved antique chair.

In their delightful text, the Knight of Glin and James Peill tell the tales of some of the more colourful inhabitants of these homes, past and present.

Alexa Hampton
ID: 6823
Издательство: Clarkson Potter

At an early age, Alexa Hampton learned the language of good design, the vocabulary to speak it, and the elements that define it. As the daughter of interior design legend Mark Hampton, she traveled the world by her father’s side, touring the great architectural landmarks and discovering beauty, training her eye.

Now one of America’s most influential designers herself, Alexa Hampton provides a tour of stunning residences from her own portfolio.

Eighteen classic spaces illustrate in rich detail the elements that govern cultivated design - contrast, proportion, color, and balance. Among the residences are a landmark 1912 McKim, Mead & White restoration on Fifth Avenue in New York City; an eclectic house by the sea layered in textures, patterns, and colors; a contemporary apartment distinguished by simple geometry and clean lines; and Hampton’s own apartment, filled with an exquisite collection of architectural elements.

Hampton also explains how she tailored each space to meet her clients’ needs while retaining a timeless aesthetic, and she provides design expertise on everything from fabric schemes to the particulars of paint. From a French neoclassical tour de force of architec-ture, artwork, and design to a Queen Anne summer cottage furnished to showcase the house’s graceful nineteenth-century dimensions, the spaces here speak the language of design - a language that, under Hampton’s tutelage, anyone can master.
