Author Achille Salvagni, Text by Pilar Viladas, Foreword by Benoist F. Drut
ID: 16402
Издательство: Rizzoli

A meticulously curated glimpse at the career of a design-world superstar.

"Stylistically, Salvagni is an avowed modernist; his work displays an elegant economy of means that is utterly contemporary," writes Pilar Viladas. "Yes, his work consistently bears the weight of history--not in overt references, but in its material richness, impeccable craftsmanship, and deeply layered narrative."

In the seventeen years since Achille Salvagni founded his design practice in Rome, the architect and designer has become known for his luxurious interiors, including apartments in New York and Palm Beach, a flat overlooking Holland Park in London, and his own apartment in Rome. He has become one of the world's preeminent designers of interiors, for which he has won numerous awards. His limited-edition furniture, lighting, and object designs are sought after both by collectors and by his fellow designers for their own projects.

This is the first monograph on Salvagni, with his best projects organized thematically instead of chronologically. With chapters on Craftsmanship, Heritage, Narrative, Harmony, and Color--among other themes--this monograph will enlighten as well as delight.

About the Authors:

Achille Salvagni was born in Rome in 1970 and graduated with an honors degree in architecture in 1998. In 2002, he created Achille Salvagni Architetti, a multidisciplinary firm for architecture and interior design, developing projects for residential buildings, luxury apartments, and yachts. Pilar Viladas, a former design editor at The New York Times Magazine and T Magazine, writes about design and architecture for a variety of publications. Benoist F. Drut is the owner of the influential New York design gallery Maison Gerard. He was instrumental in the development of a wide range of recognized and emerging artists, including Hervé Van der Straeten, Achille Salvagni, and Kiko Lopez.

Author Ana Cardinale, Photographs by Matthieu Salvaing
ID: 18037
Издательство: Rizzoli

A mythical place, the Amalfi Coast is home to dream villas within a unique landscape. Some of them have opened their doors for the first time, providing a unique opportunity to enter these exclusive homes.

The Amalfi Coast has always been a sought after destination among artists and the international jet set thanks to its spectacular topography, which combines a rugged coast and cliff-side villages overlooking the sea with the climate and the light of the Mediterranean, and the characteristic traditions and craftsmanship of the Campania region.

The visitors to the Coast include major names that helped make it famous, such as Gore Vidal, Rudolph Nureyev, Greta Garbo, John Steinbeck, Gianni Agnelli, Jackie Kennedy and Lee Radziwill, Franco Zeffirelli, Maria Callas, Princess Margaret, and Hillary Clinton.

This book gathers together beautiful houses from the Sorrento peninsula and the stretch of coast that extends from Positano to Vietri sul Mare, villas from different eras with different styles, some of which were decorated by famous designers and artists.

Each villa surprises the reader with its uniqueness: historic homes that have been transformed over the years and more contemporary villas, some with lush gardens, all equally fascinating thanks to their topographical position, architectural quality, furnishings and interior decorations, which include the truly unique ceramic floors of Vietri.

All of them encapsulate curious stories related to the people who have inhabited and transformed them, tales traced by journalist Ana Cardinale with an abundance of detail.

The photographs were taken specifically for the book by renowned French photographer Matthieu Salvaing. They include the exteriors and spectacular landscape views, the interiors and furnishings, and numerous decorative details of the ceramic features.

ID: 17231
Издательство: Rizzoli

The first volume in more than 20 years tells a new and modern story of the U.S. State Department’s Diplomatic Reception Rooms, one of the top collections of American fine and decorative arts in existence.

Winner, NYC Big Book Award 2023, Fine Arts; Best Art Book, American Book Fest Award, 2023

The art of United States diplomacy has been conducted over more than two centuries with figures from all over the world, in peacetime and in conflict. For the last six decades, these negotiations have taken place in the rarified environment of the Diplomatic Reception Rooms at the U.S. Department of State. Tucked inside the modern Truman Building in the center of Washington, D.C., lies this special suite of rooms transformed by four renowned architects — gems of classical architecture brimming with exceptional American art and artifacts that tell the story of the nation’s founding and represent the singular ideals of the American character.

Housing one of the finest collections in the world, along with the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Winterthur, these rooms display more than 5,000 objects, including paintings by John Singleton Copley and Gilbert Stuart; silver and porcelain owned by George Washington and other presidents; fine furniture; maps and documents; prints and drawings, not to mention the very desk the Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War was signed on.

With all-new photography and essays, this book captures the history of the rooms and explores more than 150 examples of the extraordinary American art that animates the exquisite spaces.

Simon Jacobsen
ID: 15345
Издательство: Rizzoli

Readers will respond to the warm and sophisticated work of Hugh and Simon Jacobsen, whose style of architecture and interiors might best be described as American modern vernacular — the place where traditional comfort and modern design meet.

Hugh Newell Jacobsen, the legendary architect and late co-founder with his son, Simon, of Jacobsen Architecture, once said “the best house is polite to her neighbors and never shouts.” This statement is a key to the philosophy of the firm, whose houses are suffused with a kind of quiet sophistication that mingle elegant, subtle modernism, with respect for local vernacular traditions. Low-key on the outside, on the inside these houses offer dancing symphonies in white. Unmarked by moldings, walls and ceilings express simple volumetric forms composed of solid planes and voids, while, upon floors of burnished wood or travertine, furniture, much of it designed by the firm, allows for serene repose and practical, unfussy use. Featured here are exemplars of the firm, from Harbor Hill — a cluster of 12 small structures, appearing at first as a group of smallish shingled Nantucket cottages, that reveals itself as a single serene residence overlooking Nantucket Harbor — to Windsor, a Florida Colonial abstraction in Vero Beach. Featuring inviting interiors, exteriors, and gardens, the book is an expression of eloquent design.

About the Authors:

Simon Jacobsen is a founding partner of Jacobsen Architecture. The recipient of many prestigious awards in architecture and design, he is an inductee of Architectural Digest’s AD100.

Paul Goldberger is contributing editor at Vanity Fair, former architecture critic for The New Yorker, and holds the Joseph Urban Chair in Design and Architecture at The New School. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Distinguished Criticism in 1984 for his work with the New York Times.

Author Ben Pentreath, Foreword by The Earl of Moray
ID: 18039
Издательство: Rizzoli

Pentreath is renowned as one of the foremost designers of new traditional buildings and country houses in the world. In celebration of his London-based firm’s twentieth anniversary, Pentreath presents his authentically, yet playfully, classical approach.

This is the first of Pentreath’s books to present his own output in its entirety — from his personal residences in Dorset, London, and Scotland that brought him international fame to many old and new houses that he has designed and some of the larger, town-scaled projects that make his practice unique in the world of traditional design. Although the results range from his colorful and romantic versions of the English country cottage to traditional splendor, there are underlying ideas that inform the breadth of his output — a sense of scale, proportion, craft, detail, sustainability, and appropriateness — that have a universal relevance today.

Pentreath has authored as well as taken all photographs in this book, which looks at some thirty case studies, large and small, including many previously unpublished works. The designs encompass an understanding of materials, texture, classical and vernacular detail, color, richness, and simplicity by turn — as exemplified in both sumptuous and honest interiors, grand country houses, and pragmatically organized town plans. While being steeped in a learned classicism, Pentreath’s work is celebrated by young and old around the world, as exemplified by his coverage in major media outlets.

About the Authors

Ben Pentreath is a London-based architectural and interior designer, educator, and author. He received the 2023 Richard H. Driehaus Prize for excellence in the field of classical architecture. The Earl of Moray is the founder and chairman of Tornagrain, a new town in the Scottish Highlands. Pentreath has overseen the master plan and architectural design of Tornagrain.

Written by Anouska Hempel and Marcus Binney
ID: 10647
Издательство: Thames & Hudson

The savant of the visual, Anouska Hempel is revered across the world for her originality and for her influence. This is a designer who sees everything, and instinctively understands it. It might be a Japanese screen, or a Tudor portrait, an object, a fabric, a colour or a decorative technique. She may come to it innocently, but she will see exactly what it does, and how it does it.

Yet that’s just where she starts. Take an inspiration; treat it with respect; understand its disciplines. Then transform it. The sparks from creative friction and an all-encompassing imagination mark out each of her designs as unmistakably her own. A first image goes galloping on to greatness elsewhere.

As a designer, there are no limits to her domain. In her work, design becomes part of the natural order, apparently tamed at last. ‘Everything has its place, and there is a place for everything’, she says. And yet the process is never complete. Along with order, there is the mystery that comes from building the design in multiple layers and the restless creativity that is impelled to take perfection to new levels.

There has never been a designer quite like Anouska Hempel, and this volume is both a celebration of her achievement and an intimate insight into it. In this astonishing book, we find her hotel creations, such as the two Blakes, the Hempel itself and Warapuru in Brazil, her private houses, including the incomparable Cole Park, her yacht and her garden designs – all the elements of a life of design.

‘Romantic places? I live in them all the time.
Anywhere the trade routes have passed or the trade winds have blown – that’s my territory. I can dream myself into a desert tent playing footsie with Genghis Khan, or a military tent planning strategy with Napoleon. Wherever my imagination finds itself that’s where my rooms begin.’

About the Authors:

Anouska Hempel, Lady Weinberg, is of Swiss, German and Irish ancestry. She grew up in New Zealand, arriving in London in the mid-1960s after extensive travels. Here, she established herself as a leading designer renowned for her sophistication and style, creating hotels and interiors as well as sensational gardens, clothes and food. Her practice, Anouska Hempel Design, works extensively in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and the Middle and Far East.

Marcus Binney studied History of Art and Architecture at Cambridge. His interest in interiors grew from writing articles for
Country Life, which were subsequently published as The Great Houses of Europe and became a 39-part television series. His other books include The Ritz Hotel London, In Search of the Perfect House, The Women who Lived for Danger and Secret War Heroes. He is Architecture Correspondent of The Times.

Belinda Harley has produced acclaimed books on Harry’s Bar and Annabel’s in London. She has a special interest in the design of hotels and restaurants.

Arnold Schwartzman
ID: 12483
Издательство: Rizzoli

Arnold Schwartzman's stunning photographs of the finest examples of Art Deco from all over the world are collected here as a celebration of one of the world's most popular decorative styles.

Art deco is the 20th century's most glamorous architectural style and the one that shaped popular ideas of modern luxury. With over 200 photographs, this is a visual celebration of this very popular style. Unlike most other books on the subject that tend to be regionally specific, this book highlights Art Deco buildings from all over the world, from Australia to South America, with an emphasis on London, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Miami, and Paris. Art Deco features much careful and exacting detail, and of special interest in this book are photos that zoom in on murals, mosaics, flooring, ironwork, and other ornamental flourishes.

Art Deco began in 1925 and quickly swept the globe becoming the style epitomizing Jazz Age glamour and sophistication. It drew from a variety of influences including ancient Egyptian, Moorish, and Mayan motifs but also modernist movements like Cubism, Fauvism, and De Stijl. Its influence was felt everywhere, from the skylines of New York to Shanghai, and it gained prominence not only with architects and designers but enjoyed a passionate following among the public as well.

About the Author:

Arnold Schwartzman is an Oscar-winning filmmaker, a noted graphic designer, and the author of a score of books including London Art Deco and Deco Landmarks: Art Deco Gems of Los Angeles. He began his design career in British television before moving to Hollywood in 1978. He was the Director of Design for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and designed many of the key graphic elements for the annual Academy Awards. In 2010, he created the two murals for the Grand Lobby of Cunard's Queen Elizabeth. In 2001 he was awarded an OBE and in 2006 he was appointed a Royal Designer by the Royal Society of Arts.

A lavish publication dedicated to Studio Arthur Casas, an acclaimed architecture and interior design practice based in São Paulo and New York.

Arthur Casas has been one of the most prolific and innovative architects in Brazil since the late 1980s. His projects, the work of studios in both São Paulo and New York, can be seen in many of the world’s capitals, including Paris, Tokyo, London, and Lisbon.

Studio Arthur Casas has completed more than 500 projects in different areas, including residential and commercial architecture, public competitions, and interior and product design, in both Brazil and abroad. The firm has gained recognition over the years and received numerous national and international honors such as a World Architecture Festival Award 2015 for the Brazilian Pavilion at the Milan Expo.

Born and raised in São Paulo, Casas is strongly influenced by the city’s cosmopolitan spirit, something that inspires him to stay connected with the design community around the world. This ethos marks all of Casas’s work, which is defined by a very eclectic and ever-changing creativity.

Casas strongly believes that architecture and interior design are inextricably related: he visualizes and embraces the spaces he designs on the condition of including the furniture that was created or chosen for them. Being a craftsman himself, he aims to create simple designs freed from all unnecessary details, imbued with artisanal qualities.

The book features works by internationally acclaimed photographers Filippo Bamberghi, Fernando Guerra, winner of the Architectural Photographer of the Year 2015, and artist Mauro Restiffe.
