An inspiring showcase of today’s new food movement and the people behind it.

Creative young people who used to want to work at start-ups, advertising agencies, or investment banks are now increasingly likely to become organic farmers, beekeepers, speak-easy bartenders, or owners of mom-and-pop grocery stores. Inspired by heartfelt passion and an uncompromising commitment to quality, a new generation of entrepreneurs from around the world is putting their skills to work at preserving local culinary traditions, brewing the best beer, preparing exceptional marmalades, or rescuing heirloom varieties of apples.

A Delicious Life presents the protagonists of this new food movement and offers a look into their world as well as their kitchens, gardens, stores, and workshops. While some are rediscovering long forgotten ingredients or cooking methods, others are researching and developing inventive new recipes. The book features designers who are integrating food and culinary rituals into their creations as well publishers of so-called foodzines who are documenting the latest innovations in charming ways.

In addition to introducing the aforementioned personalities, A Delicious Life also showcases the changing visual culture of today’s foodists, including a selection of packaging design. The book also features a broad spectrum of locations for cooking, eating, and shopping, as well as kitchen utensils and surprising events that encourage readers to become a part of this new food movement themselves.

This is a monograph on celebrated interior design firm Ricky C T Wong Design. It features 24 recent projects Ricky and Simon Chong live by the philosophy, 'Ambience is a passion that cannot be expressed, but experienced'. They regard it as something surpassing physical beauty, an indulgence that delivers unique vitality, stimulation, and spiritual aestheticism to an interior space. It is the concerted coordination of the whole interior environment: the harmony between spatial proportion, illumination, materials and colours that attains a peak of artistic sensation with which to stimulate people's passions and sublime responses. This powerful ambience is demonstrated in projects including clubhouses, flats, houses and retail spaces.

Catering to the client. Exceptional eateries, bars, and boutiques worldwide

Some of the most spectacular architectural designs of the moment have to do with our most basic needs: eating, drinking, and shopping. Restaurants, bars, and boutiques are the substance of this new book that puts an emphasis - like all volumes of the Architecture Now!-series - on the very latest and best creations. This is where you will find the likes of David Chipperfield and Peter Marino in the same book, where Jean Nouvel and BIG star Bjarke Ingels meet. But it is also the place to discover new talents like the designer of London’s Late Night Chameleon Café, Gary Card, to see how the director David Lynch imagined the subterranean Paris nightclub Silencio, or what designer Tom Dixon conjured up for the Tazmania Ballroom in Hong Kong. Also included is A Cantina, in Galicia, Spain, winner of Best Overall Restaurant at the 2012 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards. From Kobe, Japan to Turku, Finland to São Paulo, Brazil, Eat Shop Drink rounds up the newest and brightest places to see and be seen. The author:

Philip Jodidio (born 1954) studied art history and economics at Harvard, and edited Connaissance des Arts for over 20 years. His books include TASCHEN’s Architecture Now! series, and monographs on Tadao Ando, Norman Foster, Richard Meier, Jean Nouvel, and Zaha Hadid. He is internationally renowned as one of the most popular writers on the subject of architecture.

The latest architecture and design of restaurants and bars, from L.A. to Tokyo, is the focus of this book. Whether the challenge is merely placing furniture in a simple space, or an ambitious structural project, restaurants and bars are the sites of our most expressive architecture; more ephemeral than larger facilities or entire buildings, they are more apt to capture the mood of the times. From a skyscraper rooftop in Bangkok to a beachfront in Brazil, here are places where design, architecture, food and drink come together in inspiring combinations ranging from minimalist to extravagantly baroque. Designed and conceived like the enormously successful Architecture Now! books, this volume identifies the current trends bringing architecture and design together in new and exciting ways.

Istanbul bridges Europe and Asia. Based in that city, Autoban creates sought-after work that masterfully melds western design traditions with eastern elegance

Autoban is one of the most sought-after design studios worldwide. Its gorgeous furniture and spectacular spaces meld respect for tradition with modern straightforwardness. Surprisingly, Autoban doesn’t hail from an established design center such as Berlin, London, or New York, but rather from Istanbul.

Since they founded Autoban 10 years ago, Seyhan Özdemir and Sefer Çağlar have been creating design at the nexus between Orient and Occident, Asia and Europe — a fitting reflection of the city in which they live and work. Throughout the ages, Istanbul has brought together East and West, as well as Islam and Christianity, in its cultural realm. This unique history continues to influence both the cityscape of the metropolis on the Bosporus and the self-image of its inhabitants.

Özdemir and Çağlar met at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, whose school of architecture is known for teachings that are strongly oriented around classic modernism. The name Autoban is inspired by the Turkish “Otoban” and the German “Autobahn” and stands for its penchant for “really stepping on the gas.”

Autoban’s understanding of design is based in equal measure on local elements and European design theory. Its interiors and furniture designs, which have attracted an international following, move fluidly between modern and traditional, minimalistic and elaborate, luxurious and rustic, and sparse and decorative, without ever appearing superficial or blatant.

This book presents a rich selection of Autoban’s breathtaking projects that are documented in striking photographs and plans. The distinctive and premium-quality concepts for restaurants, hotels, apartments, offices, and retail spaces collected here showcase the studio’s worldview between global cosmopolitanism and its own cultural idiosyncrasies.

The texts in the book were written by Vasif Kortun, director of Istanbul’s SALT, by the curator and cultural historian Deniz Erduman-Calis, and by design journalists Marie Le Fort and Shonquis Moreno. They give further insight into Autoban’s creative process and philosophy as well as the cultural context in which it works.

In only a short time, Autoban’s Seyhan Özdemir and Sefer Çağlar have established themselves as stars on the global design scene. They founded the studio in 2003 and, only one year later, were named “Best Young Designers of the Year 2004” by the magazine Wallpaper*. Autoban’s furniture is successfully distributed worldwide by De La Espada. The design studio epitomizes a new Turkish design sensibility and its designs for hotels and restaurants define the cityscape of modern Istanbul. Meanwhile, Autoban’s work can also be found around the world in places including Madrid, St. Petersburg, and Hong Kong as well as in Baku, Azerbaijan where they designed all of the interiors for the city’s airport. The hotels that they have designed and furnished appear regularly in the best-of lists of publications such as the Sunday Times Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, and Tatler Travel.

When the sun goes down, Spain's culinary culture comes alive; the Catalans like to enjoy their meals late into the night, to the surprise of many foreigners who are not accustomed to eating dinner as late as 11 p.m. or even midnight. But they quickly become accustomed to this very relaxed way of life, having learned to enjoy a siesta in the afternoon when all the shops are closed. A favorite way to usher in the evening hours is to visit a classic tapas bar such as TapaC24 or Cerveceria El Vaso de Oro, where fresh, simple, and delicious nibbles can be had while sipping a cold cerveza. When your appetite is in full swing and the hour grows late, choose from our restaurant recommendations such as 7 Portes, the oldest eatery in the city, or the very glamorous Noti. If after-dinner drinks are in order, be sure to visit Bar Gimlet for cocktails and jazz. And forget about that diet: you must try the scrumptiously sweet suizos and churros at Granja La Pallaresa! This title features: an exclusive hand-illustrated cover; an exclusive hand-illustrated map for each area; information such as history, design, opening hours, and signature dishes; hand-illustrated postcard; and, softcover with a sturdy PVC jacket.

The architecture of leisure tends to be one of the best exponents of the creative capacity of the designer. The functional and aesthetic limitations are almost always less strict than in other areas, and this is why the most famous spaces of restaurants, bars, cafes and discotheques have become fundamental examples for studying the different tendencies of language, materials and design that arise from the interior design of this century. This work presents twenty interior spaces designed by renowned architects and designers, in which diversity and ingenuity are the most outstanding features for spaces that are an invitation to fun, imagination and relax.
