Author Alireza Sagharchi, Foreword by HRH The Prince of Wales, Edited by Clive Aslet, Text by Leon Krier, Designed by Takaaki Matsumoto
ID: 16068
Издательство: Rizzoli

The first book to feature the precisely detailed, sumptuous architecture of Stanhope Gate, one of the finest firms working in the classical style anywhere.

Alireza Sagharchi, principal of Stanhope Gate Architecture, is one of the world's leading classical architects, whose projects are dazzling in their scale and accomplishment -- many of which, until now, have been unpublished and little seen. From a European Palladian villa to a country house in Scotland, Sagharchi's work is a testament to the virtues of traditional planning and design as married to an informed and inspired vision that embraces the wisdom of the past, of classicism and vernacular traditions, while establishing harmony with the needs of contemporary living.

Classicism at Home, richly detailed with new photography, meticulous drawings, and beautifully written text, features Sagharchi's work around the world, from a residence in Kensington Gardens, London, a chic eco-resort on the Danube, and a rural hunting lodge to an elegantly appointed courtyard house by the sea.

The practice works within diverse styles and the tradition of the local to create stylistically unique buildings that fit their context. The book features both exteriors and interiors, as well as exquisitely manicured gardens.

Alireza Sagharchi is a leading practitioner of contemporary classical architecture and traditional urban design and coauthor of the books New Palladians and Traditional Architecture. HRH The Prince of Wales is the author of A Vision of Britain: A Personal View of Architecture. Clive Aslet is the former editor of Country Life magazine and author of more than twenty books. Léon Krier is an architect, theorist, urban planner, and author.

This groundbreaking work provides an overview of the whole creative realm of contemporary landscape architecture and open space design. Every aspect of the creation and production of these public and private spaces is thematized and elucidated. These spaces encompass an enormous variety, ranging from classic garden design and golf courses to greened façades, from guerilla gardening and pedestrian zones to large-scale ecological interventions.

Comprehensive introductions to each of the 30 chapters chart the various tasks and challenges. Illustrated case studies from around the world offer concept, ideas and suggestions to inspire the design process. Whether conservative in style and requiring little explanation, or striking, even ostentatious, these projects are always inventive, unique and compelling – and always seeking to redefine the relationship between human beings, the built environment and the natural world.

Whether around, besides, on top of, or even in buildings, in populated areas or in the countryside, landscape architecture develops and designs outdoor spaces for humans as independent creations. It mediates between nature and architecture and connects the grown and the planned habitat, balancing function and aesthetics. Against the backdrop of climate change, the central task today is the conservation of natural resources and the creation of sustainable, high-quality green spaces.

A reference work and source of inspiration, this compendium provides an overview of the entire spectrum of this discipline based on projects around the world. Their common denominator is the design of ecologically and socially intact living space. Almost exactly ten years after the publishing of the Atlas of World Landscape Architecture, this new publication takes stock of the developments of the last decade.

Protecting human beings has always been one of the most genuine purposes of architecture. Due to the increase in global warming in recent years, protection from the sun is becoming one of its most important functions. This challenge has resulted in numerous trendsetting technological innovations and amazing design concepts, which have been collected in this book. Shade is mainly created in three ways: while opaque constructions block off all light, perforated devices as well as translucent materials reduce the exposure to light.

Creating Shade presents all conceivable types and forms of shade-providing design made of a host of different materials such as wood, fabrics, concrete, and a great number of synthetic materials. The collection includes elegant pergolas, extravagant pavilions, and roofed piazzas, as well as a fascinating solution for a canopy over a Roman excavation site and the spectacular Metropol Parasol in Seville. Outstanding serial products are presented along with individually constructed creations.

In recent years, perspective views have swept into the foreground in the field of landscape architecture. They have become the showpiece of any new design project, frequently overshadowing the plan as the principal graphic mediator of ideas. Perspectives communicate planned spaces unlike any other orthographic architectural projections, easily connecting with human modes of vision and perception. Yet we have become so accustomed to seeing them that we no longer examine their underlying messages.

This manual examines the history of these multifaceted images and their power to shape our expectations and thinking. Moving chronologically from the Renaissance to the present day, the book charts their evolution and dissects the motives behind their construction. It also provides clear practical guidance on how to compose persuasive images for diverse audiences.

Presented in this book are numerous historical and contemporary examples, underscoring the perspective’s continuing importance in professional practice.

Key thematic areas include:
_ Introduction to terminology: Basics and principles
_Constructing and composing perspectives
_Transmitting messages: The landscape as a medium for ideas
_ Enduring themes of beauty, the sublime, and awe
_The future of perspective views

An all-in-one introduction to combining traditional drawing techniques with computer-aided design

As hand-drawing returns to design courses around the world, this welcome publication celebrates the best aspects of traditional techniques while incorporating them into today’s digital design methods. It reintroduces the importance of learning to ‘see by hand’, to visualize large-scale design schemes and explain them through drawing, before using the digital tools that are so crucial to efficient and cost-effective building solutions.

Combining traditional drawing techniques with those from CAD rendering, Drawing for Landscape Architecture guides practitioners from their very first impression of a site, through concept and schematic design and client presentation to construction and site drawings, to two case studies that show the final result. This new and expanded edition includes a new chapter on the relationship between landscape design and architecture, along with a selection of updated artwork.

Contents List:

1. Absorbing the Landscape • 2. Drawing on Site • 3. Drawing Ideas • 4. Plan, Elevation and Section Drawing • 5. Isometric Drawings • 6. Perspectives • 7. Money Drawings • 8. Construction Detail Drawings • 9. Completed Work: Case Studies

About the Author:

Edward Hutchison is principal of his own successful landscape design practice in London. He was previously an associate of Foster & Partners. His drawings have been included in major exhibitions, including the Royal Watercolour Society’s annual show in 2011.

Marcel Wolterinck
ID: 18147
Издательство: Lannoo

For Marcel Wolterinck – one of the Netherlands’ leading designers – indoors and outdoors are inextricably linked. This is most evident in his all-encompassing projects, in which his studio designs both the interior and exterior of a property as well as the garden. But even when redesigning existing gardens, Wolterinck is focused on ensuring that the outside is a natural extension of the inside. Besides the understated use of colour – predominantly green – Wolterinck’s garden designs are characterised by simplicity, balance and contrasts. Sightlines create depth and space, while garden rooms provide a sense of intimacy. Wolterinck typically draws inspiration from the architecture in the immediate vicinity of the house, and then increasingly allows the garden to blend with its natural surroundings towards the edges. In his latest book, Eden – Garden Designs, Wolterinck presents 21 of his garden-design projects, both in the Netherlands and abroad: from Laren to Crete and from Zwolle to Tel Aviv. Wolterinck shares insights into the thought process behind each design, including his decisions for plants and materials, as the sumptuous photos take you on a journey through his ‘gardens of Eden’.

About the Author:

Wolterinck is a high-end, multidisciplinary design studio founded by the leading Dutch designer Marcel Wolterinck. The firm handles a wide range of projects, including architecture, interior design, garden architecture, and product design. Marcel Wolternick is the author of several books, including Designing Your World I and II (Lannoo 2020 and 2021) and Outside In: Wolterinck’s World (Lannoo 2010).

Author Umberto Pasti and Ngoc Minh Ngo, Foreword by Martina Mondadori Sartogo
ID: 15676
Издательство: Rizzoli

A lovingly photographed tour of internationally renowned writer Umberto Pasti's famous hillside garden in Morocco.

Italian writer and horticulturist Umberto Pasti's passion for the wild flora of Tangier and its surrounding region led him to create his world-famous garden, Rohuna, where he has transplanted thousands of plants rescued from construction sites with the aid of men from the village.

Planted between two small houses is the Garden of Consolation: a series of rooms and terraces with lush vegetation, some rendering homage to the paintings of Henri Rousseau, others inspired by invented characters. Surrounding the Garden of Consolation are the Wild Garden and a hillside devoted to the wild flowering bulbs of northern Morocco, where indigenous species of narcissus, iris, crocus, scilla, gladiolus, and others bloom. With its stunning vistas and verdant fields, Rohuna is a garden of incomparable beauty with the mission to preserve the botanical richness of the region. Captured here in detail by celebrated photographer Ngoc Minh Ngo, the poetic beauty of this special and unique place is lovingly rendered for all the world to see and share.

About the Author:

Ngoc Minh Ngo is a celebrated photographer and the author of two books. Ngoc's images have been published in publications such as T MagazineArchitectural DigestCabana, and House & Garden UK. Umberto Pasti is a well-known Italian writer and horticulturalist. Martina Mondadori Sartogo is the founder of Cabana magazine and is the European editor at large for Town & Country magazine.

Photographs by Jonathan M. Singer, Text by William N. Valavanis
ID: 9935
Издательство: Abbeville Press

In this luxurious cloth-bound hardcover with glossy slipcase, renowned botanical photographer Jonathan Singer presents his breathtaking images of the world's most notable bonsai.

In Fine Bonsai: Art & Nature, the finest extant achievements in the art of bonsai are seen together for the first time, through the lens of renowned botanical photographer Jonathan Singer. This magnificent volume is the result of an extensive photographic campaign, in the course of which Singer was granted unprecedented access to the most respected public and private collections in Japan and the United States, including the mecca of bonsai, the Omiya Bonsai Village of Saitama, Japan, where photography is normally prohibited. Three hundred stunning full-page images and four lavish gatefolds present bonsai of all types, from quiet representations of nature to bold sculptural forms. The horticultural and aesthetic characteristics of each bonsai are concisely and authoritatively described in the narrative captions by William Valavanis, head of the International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, New York. And because the container is considered an integral part of any bonsai — indeed, the literal meaning of “bonsai” is “tray plant” — the book also includes some twenty-five photographs of traditional bonsai containers, with descriptions. A further sequence of twenty-five photographs is devoted to the related art of suiseki, or miniature stone landscapes displayed in the same manner, and often alongside,
bonsai.

With his groundbreaking first book, Botanica Magnifica, Jonathan Singer established a new style of botanical photography, characterized by an exceptional clarity of detail and richness of color, as well as a painterly chiaroscuro. These qualities are just as evident in the present volume; Singer photographs each bonsai with an artist’s — one might even say a portraitist’s — eye. Whereas most books on bonsai aim to instruct readers on techniques of care and cultivation, Singer’s book takes the reader on a visual journey. His images encompass many different species, from azalea to red maple, as well as a variety of blossoms and fruits. Alluring and serene, Singer's photographs make the experience of leafing through Bonsai not unlike entering a real Japanese garden. Fine Bonsai: Art & Nature not only documents the masterpieces of an ancient horticultural art, but is a masterpiece in itself.

A portion of the proceeds of this book will benefit the Japanese Red Cross.

About the Author:

Jonathan Singer’s double-elephant folio of Botanica Magnifica is kept in the Cullman Rare Book Room at the Smithsonian Institution Libraries. Dr. Singer was named a Hasselblad Laureate Award winner based on his contribution to fine art photography and to “our perception and appreciation of the botanical world.”
