About the Authors:

Tom Scheerer began his decorating career in the mid–1980s after graduating from Cooper Union with a degree in architecture. He formed his own firm in 1995. He is the subject of Tom Scheerer Decorates and the author of Tom Scheerer: More Decorating. His work is regularly featured in Architectural Digest, Town & Country, House Beautiful, and Elle Decor. He is named annually to the AD100 list of top interior designers. He divides his time between New York, Paris, and Harbour Island.

Mimi Read is the author of Tom Scheerer Decorates. She writes about architecture and design for the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, The New Yorker, House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Food & Wine, Travel & Leisure, and many other publications. She lives in New Orleans.

The Palladian style dominated British architecture for most of the 1700s, until the rise of the Adam style, which held sway for the final decades of the eighteenth century. Brothers Robert and James Adam were almost single-handedly responsible for infusing Georgian architecture with the sensibilities and elements of classical Hellenic and Latinate design. The introduction presents Kleinberg’s course as a designer, starting with a summer job at Denning & Fourcade and progressing though his tenure at Parish-Hadley. Finally, Kleinberg opens the doors to his own residences, from a 250-square-foot homage to 1970s industrial chic to his current apartment in a refined prewar building, a representation of the design of his past and the design of his future

Chesie Breen is the principal of Chesie Breen & Company, a media and marketing consulting firm, and founding editor of Clover Magazine, an online resource dedicated to interior design, art, fashion, and culture. She is a contributing editor at House Beautiful magazine.

Stuart Cohen and Julie Hacker are a multi-award-winning husband-and-wife architectural team whose vast complementary talents are presented in this first monograph of their residential work. Their elegant body of work is mostly concentrated in Chicago's leafy North Shore suburbs. UN Studio, led by Dutch architects Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos, creates spaces that are surprisingly innovative.

Their work doesn`t rehash Modernism but rather embraces the digital age via the invention of new, time-based techniques expanding the imagination, exploding the hierarchy of the design process, and encouraging the input of different disciplines. UNStudio`s architecture is the result of a design strategy that repeatedly and constantly advances in different ways via leitmotifs called "design models." The most important examples of this new kind of architecture are the New Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart and the Erasmus bridge in Rotterdam, which has become the town`s new landmark. Another manifest aim is to come up with fundamentally new ideas for complex infrastructure projects and to give these a contemporary structure that fosters future (including urban) development.

This can be seen, for example, at the central train station in Arnhem, at the Ponte Parodi pier in Genoa, and at the Canadian Centre for Architecture´s (CCA) prestigious "Competition for the Design of Cities." This book presents an overview of UN Studio`s work to date.
