This monograph dedicated to the most spectacular example of Parisian First Empire interior architecture retraces the history of the building and the lives of its residents.

The Hôtel de Beauharnais, constructed in 1713, gained renown during the Consulate period. In 1803, Josephine Bonaparte acquired the property for her son, Eugène de Beauharnais, and had the building renovated and decorated at great expense. At the fall of the Napoleonic Empire, it was sold to the King of Prussia and became an embassy during the nineteenth century. With its unique Consulate and Empire décor, the palace is an invaluable specimen of Parisian interior architecture.

The result of more than ten years of research and restoration work, this book recounts three centuries of European political history through the lives of the Hôtel’s successive owners.

ID: 10260
Издательство: Rizzoli

Photographer David Cannon began his career in sports photography twenty-five years ago and is considered the premier golf photographer in the world.

Having played at more than seven hundred golf courses in over fifty countries, Cannon photographs with a true golfer's eye, offering an extraordinary window into some of the world's most celebrated courses — with more than 40 in North America, dozens in Asia and the South Pacific, and several in both Africa and the Middle East.

Savor a view from the 11th hole of the incomparable and historic St. Andrews's Old Course bathed in golden afternoon light; glimpse giraffes and elephants from any green at Leopard Creek, South Africa; vicariously experience Pirate's Plank, the harrowing 15th hole at Cape Kidnappers, New Zealand, which is set at the very end of the clifftop fairway surrounded by dramatic 500-foot drops to the ocean; and take in the serene sea view from the signature 18th hole of the very private Seminole Golf Course in Florida.

Golf Courses stunningly captures the singular genius and beauty of golf courses. It is a comprehensive collection of the world's best courses by revered designers including Donald Ross, Pete Dye, and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and such new talent as Steve Smyers and Tom Doak, among many others — all of whom skillfully orchestrate the exceptional union of nature and course design on five continents.

This deluxe, limited-edition volume features over two hundred sumptuous colour photographs of courses, some of which have never been photographed or published previously, in full spreads and gatefolds — some measuring over five feet in length — and includes a numbered print signed by the photographer.

This book presents some of the best examples of hostel design from around the world, based on a combination of their interior design, comfort and services.

The majority of the establishments shown are located in major cities, although some are in rural settings.

There are hostels in historic buildings, such as the old Medical Science University in Amsterdam or a 200-year old Venetian palace, while others are situated in modern buildings or converted houses. Some of them even offer terraces, restaurants and reading rooms...but all have been designed with one common factor in mind - creating a friendly and welcoming space for travellers who don't mind sharing a room.

Colin Miller, Ray Mock
ID: 14942
Издательство: Monacelli Press

An immersive photographic tour of the legendary Hotel Chelsea, whose residents share their spaces, their stories, and a delirious collective history of this landmark.

Jackson Pollock, Robert Mapplethorpe, Patti Smith, Dylan Thomas, Arthur Miller, Bob Dylan, Arthur C. Clarke, Andy Warhol, William S. Burroughs, Janis Joplin, Eugene O’Neill, Rufus Wainwright, Betsey Johnson, R. Crumb, Thomas Wolfe, Jasper Johns—these are just a few of the figures who at one time occupied one of the most alluring and storied residences ever: the Chelsea Hotel. Born during the Gilded Age and once the tallest building in New York, the twelve-story landmark has long been a magnet for artists, writers, musicians, and cultural provocateurs of all stripes.

In this book, photographer Colin Miller and writer Ray Mock intimately portray the enduring bohemian spirit of the Chelsea Hotel through interviews with nearly two dozen current residents and richly detailed photographs of their unique spaces. As documented in Miller’s abundant photographs, these apartments project the quirky decorating sensibilities of urban aesthetes who largely work in film, theater, and the visual arts, resulting in deliriously ornamental spaces with a kitschy edge. Weathering the overall homogenization of New York and the rapid transformation of the hotel itself—amid recent ownership changeovers and tenant lawsuits—residents remain in about seventy apartments while the rest of the units are converted to rentals (and revert to a hotel-stay basis, which had ceased in 2011).

For the community of artists and intellectuals who remain, the uncertain status of the hotel is just another stage in a roller-coaster history. A fascinating portrait of a strand of resilient bohemian New Yorkers and their creative, deeply idiosyncratic homes, Hotel Chelsea is a rich visual and narrative document of a cultural destination as complicated as it is mythical.

About the Authors:

Colin Miller is a photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. His photography focuses on architecture and interior design throughout the world. His work has been published in a variety of magazines, books, and websites including Elle Décor, Architectural Digest Germany, the New York Times, Town and Country, and Bon Appétit, among many others. He studied photography at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Ray Mock is a graffiti documentarian, street art critic, zine maven, and founder of the street art/editions publisher Carnage (carnagenyc.com). He is the author of Banksy in New York (2014), a firsthand account of the internationally renowned street artist's month-long residency in the city. His photography has been featured in numerous books (Graffiti 365, Wild Art, Banksy: You Are an Acceptable Level of Threat), and he is a frequent contributor to Juxtapoz, Vice, Mass Appeal, The Creators Project, and other publications.

Nestled in a spectacular botanical garden with stunning views on the Mediterranean, the idyllic Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc has attracted scintillating international guests for 150 years.

Created in the nineteenth century as a retreat for artists and writers, Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc at Cap d'Antibes continues to captivate an international clientele as an exclusive retreat today. The tropical paradise attracted Lost Generation writers such as Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, whose Tender is the Night was set at Eden Roc. Artists -- including Monet, Matisse, Chagall, Picasso, and Damien Hirst--have drawn inspiration from the enchanted setting and its lush botanical gardens. Master photographers Jacques Henri Lartigue and Slim Aarons famously captured guests splashing in the Mediterranean or lounging in the sun next to the iconic seawater swimming pool carved in the basalt cliff.

The secluded resort, located between Nice and Cannes, has always been a favorite haven on the French Riviera for A-list celebrities -- from Marlene Dietrich to Orson Welles, and from John Lennon and Yoko Ono to Sharon Stone -- during the Cannes film festival, and for secluded family holidays, ideal for unwinding at the green and white seaside cabanas where time stands still, sampling the bar's iconic Bellinis, or enjoying creative locally-sourced cuisine. The hotel's storied history is full of romance, humor, mystery, and legend.
Built on one of the most alluring sites on the Rivera, the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc is the epitome of beauty, timeless elegance, and discretion; it has been a home away from home for generations of artists, photographers, authors, politicians, and Hollywood stars.

Author Katia Lysy, Prologue by Benedetta Origo, Photographs by Simon Upton and Matteo Carassale
ID: 18300
Издательство: Rizzoli

Discover La Foce, the Renaissance villa and classically inspired twentieth-century garden, at the dawn of its hundredth anniversary — once a barren Tuscan estate brought to life through the extraordinary vision and determination of Iris and Antonio Origo.

In 1924, English-born biographer and writer Iris Origo (1902–1988) and her husband, Antonio, purchased La Foce, a sprawling estate centered around a half-ruined fifteenth-century villa with a dream that was as ambitious as it was audacious. Guided by a deep-seated desire to make a difference, the Origos dedicated their lives to transforming an impoverished terrain into a thriving landscape of wheat fields, olive groves, and vineyards. With English architect Cecil Pinsent, they refurbished the house and designed an elegant terraced garden with box hedges, a rose garden, fountains, and a wisteria-covered pergola.

The dramatic story of La Foce — from the taming of the wild valley and personal loss to wartime strife — is told by the Origos’ granddaughter Katia Lysy, with reminiscences by Benedetta Origo, the couple’s elder daughter. The letters and diaries of Iris Origo weave beautifully into a personal narrative of the creation of the property and the people behind it. Newly commissioned photographs by Simon Upton and Matteo Carassale, a foldout annotated view of the property, and a recently discovered cache of unpublished images of the creation of the garden in the 1920s bring to life the rich history of the magnificent property.

About the Authors:

Katia Lysy is a journalist and a literary translator. She now assists her mother, Benedetta Origo, in the management and development of the family estate of La Foce. Benedetta Origo is the daughter of Iris and Antonio Origo and the owner of La Foce. Simon Upton is one of the foremost names in interiors photography, with more than twenty-five years of published work to his credit. Matteo Carassale is an Italian photographer who has contributed work to international travel, interior, garden, and nature magazines.

Discover the plush elegance of the Grand Hotel and Café de la Paix — a hub of cultural and café society elegance since 1862.

Conjured up during Baron Haussmann’s extensive urban renewal program in the nineteenth century, and freshly renovated by master designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, the Grand Hotel and its Café de la Paix occupy a choice location among the Parisian facades surrounding Paris’s Opera Garnier. This bilingual edition retraces the history of the Belle Époque palace with its 458 rooms and suites, where visitors from all over the world meet under the glass roof of its winter garden. The Café de la Paix safeguards its authenticity by serving up iconic recipes — from the famed onion soup to the flaky mille-feuille — on the celebrated terrace that overlooks the boulevard des Capucines. In 1904, the Grand Hôtel’s head barman Franck Newman invented the original dry martini as a tribute to avant-garde actress Sarah Bernhardt, a regular guest. The café has been a meeting-place for notables from Oscar Wilde to Ernest Hemingway, Marlene Dietrich to Ines de la Fressange, and John Travolta to President Bill Clinton.

Blending architecture, history, and timeless luxury, this volume celebrates the hotel and café that were at the epicenter of the most cherished era in Parisian history.

About the Author:

Laure Verchère was a journalist for Elle Décoration and has written many books including Signed Sybille de Margerie: Bespoke Interiors (Flammarion, 2020).

ID: 9308
Издательство: Rizzoli

For their tenth anniversary, the design studio Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors presents projects that blend the spirit of our collective history with a modernist edge.

Roman and Williams’s style honors craftsmanship, the use of natural materials, and the overlooked in unexpected ways. Their understated, glamorous sensibility is imparted in Manhattan’s Ace Hotel interiors and restaurant The Breslin, The Standard Hotel, with its iconic Boom Boom Room, and the Royalton lobby. For such popular restaurants as The Dutch, the duo created environments with textured backdrops that reference a rich past with a contemporary sensibility.

Their innovative work has captured the attention of firms such as Facebook — they recently completed its campus food hall — and their residences for celebrities such as Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow are equally imaginative. This book surveys the firm’s prestige projects, presented with Alesch’s architectural hand drawings and sketches and detailed views.

Also included is their loft and Montauk home, which serve as design laboratories, and a collection of furnishings and fixtures.

About еhe Authors:

Following a career as Hollywood production designers, Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer founded Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors in 2002. The New York firm’s scope includes buildings, interior design, and product lines, where they place a premium on such aesthetic juxtapositions as high/low and spare/baroque. Former Surfing magazine editor Jamie Brisick writes for the New York Times and Details and has authored two books, including Have Board Will Travel. Actor and film director/producer Ben Stiller is a prolific talent. Standefer and Alesch did the production design for Zoolander and Duplex and designed his homes.
