Beautiful flowers tastefully arranged in simple containers are the true essence of ikebana the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement.

Japanese Ikebana for Every Season is an inspirational book that demystifies this ancient art form by presenting 53 simple flower arrangements that are easy for anyone to make at home. Different arrangements are suggested for each season of the year. You can easily create all of them in only a few minutes using common flowers and plants from your garden, from a nearby field or forest, or from your local florist.

The explanations and basic instructions cover a side range of styles that encourage the reader to use his or her own creativity rather than slavishly copying traditional Ikebana designs and concepts.
Author Rie Imai explains how to select a simple container and flowers that you can find anywhere and then how to turn them into something special with just a few very simple techniques. The key to good ikebana is in understanding a few very simple traditional Japanese concepts, like the idea of mitate seeing old things with new eyes as well as simple techniques of flower stabilization and support within a container.

Each section in this book presents a variety of topics and arrangements designed to inspire and delight.

No matter what time of the year it is and regardless of your budget or tastes, the arrangements in this book will lend a touch of Japanese elegance to your home.

A visually stunning tribute to a fashion visionary and the world's longest-established couture company in the world

Jeanne Lanvin was ahead of her time. The French fashion visionary and imaginative businesswoman from a poor background not only created the first designer fashion line for children – this was colourful and full of lightness, at a time when children were still dressed like adults – the first tailored men’s collection and the first unisex eau de toilette, she also founded the longest-running fashion company in the world. This at times employed over 1000 people and included women’s, children’s and men’s fashion, accessories, fragrances, furnishing textiles and decorative objects, and even its own paint factory. The self-taught Lanvin started as a hat maker with her own boutique and managed to become one of the greatest fashion designers of the 20th century with creative energy and inventiveness. She created art deco costumes for theatre and film productions, developed the legendary perfume Arpège and a special Lanvin blue, based on the shade Fra Angelico blue. This richly illustrated coffee table book is dedicated to the extraordinary life and work of this exceptional designer.

Text in English and German.

About the Authors:

Art historian Agata Toromanoff has curated numerous projects and exhibitions in the field of contemporary art for collectors and galleries. As an author, she writes about art, design, architecture and photography. In 2014 she founded the book agency Fancy Books, which she runs with her husband Pierre. Pierre Toromanoff studied mathematics and Slavic studies in Paris. He worked for over 25 years as a sales manager and managing director for various art publishers. Since 2016, he has published widely on fine art, fashion, design, and pop culture.

Author Jeff Staple, Contributions by Hiroshi Fujiwara and Futura
ID: 15364
Издательство: Rizzoli

A streetwear collab and sneaker legend, Jeff Staple is known the world over for his work with brands, including NikeThe Fader, and Hypebeast. This monograph documents the past twenty-five years of Staple’s most iconic work.

In 1997, Jeff Staple walked into a boutique in New York City wearing a shirt he printed in his silk-screen class at Parsons School of Design. What started as a small, handmade T-shirt line grew organically and began to garner a serious following in New York. In the process of building this burgeoning brand, Staple was asked by Nike in 2005 to create a special commemorative sneaker that would represent New York. The Staple Pigeon Dunk SB was conceived and led to much fanfare upon its release. It exposed Staple — as well as sneaker culture — to a mass audience. In Staple’s words, to understand is to see and to see is to have clarity of mind. That clarity has helped develop his iconic Pigeon logo (and brand) into a global force that has graced the heels of almost every major footwear brand imaginable.

This book offers readers a history lesson in his enormous contributions to streetwear and the sneaker industry while also uncovering design context to a series of Staple’s most crucial projects. A beautiful visual reference, this book invites the reader to travel down an intricate maze of streetwear history told through an insider’s point of view. Archival sketches, drawings, magazine covers, and contributions by Hiroshi Fujiwara and Futura make this an indispensable volume for lovers of streetwear and design.

About the Authors:

Jeff Staple is an American fashion and graphic designer and the founder of New York visual communications agency Staple Design. Hiroshi Fujiwara is a Japanese musician, producer, and designer. Futura is a street artist born and raised in New York. The Power of Lo—TEK. A global exploration of nature-based technology

Three hundred years ago, intellectuals of the European Enlightenment constructed a mythology of technology. Influenced by a confluence of humanism, colonialism, and racism, this mythology ignored local wisdom and indigenous innovation, deeming it primitive. Today, we have slowly come to realize that the legacy of this mythology is haunting us.

Designers understand the urgency of reducing humanity’s negative environmental impact, yet perpetuate the same mythology of technology that relies on exploiting nature. Responding to climate change by building hard infrastructures and favoring high-tech homogenous design, we are ignoring millennia-old knowledge of how to live in symbiosis with nature. Without implementing soft systems that use biodiversity as a building block, designs remain inherently unsustainable.

Lo—TEK, derived from Traditional Ecological Knowledge, is a cumulative body of multigenerational knowledge, practices, and beliefs, countering the idea that indigenous innovation is primitive and exists isolated from technology. It is sophisticated and designed to sustainably work with complex ecosystems.

With a foreword by anthropologist Wade Davis and four chapters spanning Mountains, Forests, Deserts, and Wetlands, this book explores thousands of years of human wisdom and ingenuity from 18 countries including Peru, the Philippines, Tanzania, Kenya, Iran, Iraq, India, and Indonesia. We rediscover an ancient mythology in a contemporary context, radicalizing the spirit of human nature.

The editor and author:

Designer, activist, academic and author Julia Watson is the principal of her eponymously named design studio working at the intersection of anthropology, ecology, innovation, and collaborates as Watson Salembier, a full-service landscape & urban design studio specializing in rewilding. Author Bill Rose, Introduction by Mike Essl
ID: 14052
Издательство: Universe

A graphic compendium of vintage American design and typography.

Junk Type is a project driven by the passion of one man to document a disappearing aspect of American culture. Bill Rose — aka Recapturist — is a photographer and designer who has spent the last decade traveling across America looking for junkyards, yard sales, antique stores, and other unlikely sources of inspiration to capture examples of postwar American typography and design before they’re lost forever.

Bringing together more than 400 images, this invaluable book is a visual history of postwar America, told through the distinct typography, icons, badges, and branding of the country’s industrial heritage. From Art Deco-inspired fonts and unique handmade cursive lettering to illustrated insignia and clean graphic logos bearing the influence of European design of the 1960s, these pictures together represent an encyclopedic reference of creative typefaces and graphics.

With each photograph representing just a detail — an embossed logo, a specially created icon, or an advertising slogan — this book captures the optimism and pragmatism of a golden age of American industrial creativity and distills it into a charming resource for anyone with an eye (or nostalgia) for vintage design.

About the Author:

Bill Rose is a photographer who documents vintage Americana through his successful website Recapturist. Based in Minneapolis, he travels the country and specializes in neon signs and the typography and logo design of vintage American industrial objects.

Taku Satoh
ID: 15248
Издательство: Chronicle Books

A Japanese designer offers a compelling alternative way to engage with our possessions, our history, our environment, and each other.

The Japanese phrase "hodo-hodo" originates in ancient times. When contemporary designer Taku Satoh applies it to his work, it means "just enough." Hodo-hodo design deliberately holds back, leaving room for individuals to engage with objects according to their unique sensibilities. In the midst of a consumerist age, Satoh has built an illustrious design career around this philosophy, creating iconic work in fashion, food, and architecture. His ideas speak not just to professional designers, but to anyone who wishes to move more thoughtfully through the world. Within this slim but powerful volume, Satoh explains his philosophy through tangible examples — from the aesthetic of a timeworn ramen shop to a rooftop playground inspired by onomatopoeia. Urging readers to appreciate everyday objects and spaces and to question the lure of convenience, he delivers a message rooted in the past yet perfectly suited to our times.

TIMELY TOPIC: As more people begin to question the structures of consumerism, this thoughtful book offers a different way of seeing the world. Satoh's philosophy aligns perfectly with sustainable lifestyles.

UNIQUE INSIGHTS INTO JAPANESE CULTURE: Japan is a huge cultural exporter and a booming travel destination. Many Japanese ideas and traditions — such as ikigai, forest bathing, and wabi-sabi — are being widely celebrated as pathways to a more fulfilling life. This book presents hodo-hodo, a concept not yet widely exported. Learning about hodo-hodo will enrich readers' understanding of Japan, as well as inspire designers and other creatives in their work.

AUTHORITATIVE VOICE: Taku Satoh has over four decades of design experience. His work is renowned in Japan, and he's worked with major brands and museums and won many awards. Here, he shares wisdom drawn from his design expertise and his deep love for his culture.

ACCESSIBLE CONTENT: The handy paperback format is perfect for a book that you will want to read and re-read. Satoh proposes fascinating and pertinent ideas in an unintimidating way.

About the Author:

Taku Satoh has created designs for prominent Japanese brands including Issey Miyake. He has been awarded honors by, among others, the New York Art Directors Club and the emperor of Japan. He resides in Tokyo.
