An essential book for anyone involved or interested in the process of digital brand building and digital communication design

Digital design plays a crucial role in how customers experience a brand. However, corporate websites and online shops are now only part of interactive brand identity. Digital touchpoints are becoming more widespread and more complex in their design demands, embracing apps, chatbots, interactive billboards, virtual and augmented reality and more. The interface is now the brand, which means that conception, design and technology must go hand in hand at every stage, keeping the needs of users front and centre.

This extensively updated edition of Branded Interactions is an essential handbook for professional digital designers and those just starting out. It guides the reader through the process of digital brand design in five key phases: discovering a demographic, defining an action plan, designing an interface, delivering a quality product, and distributing the design to the market. Packed with real-world examples from brands like Google, Amazon and Lego, it incorporates a wealth of practical design advice and diagrams to help build a solid framework for any project – incorporating brand strategy at every stage while remaining flexible enough to let creativity shine.

About the Author:

Marco Spies and Katja Wenger are partners at think moto, a Berlin-based design consultancy, and co-founders of two highly successful tech start-ups.

Bruno Munari
ID: 17705
Издательство: Princeton Architectural Press

In the early 1960s, Italian design legend Bruno Munari published his visual case studies on shapes: Circle, Square, and, a decade later, Triangle. Using examples from ancient Greece and Egypt, as well as works by Buckminster Fuller, Le Corbusier, and Alvar Aalto, Munari invests the three shapes with specific qualities: the circle relates to the divine, the square signifies safety and enclosure, and the triangle provides a key connective form for designers.

One of the great designers of the twentieth century, Munari contributed to the fields of painting, sculpture, design, and photography while teaching throughout his seventy-year career. After World War II he began to focus on book design, creating children's books known for their simplicity and playfulness.

- For the first time, this trilogy is published as a single volume, in an affordably priced paperback that is sure to catch the eye of longtime Munari fans, as well as introduce his creative theories to new audiences.
- The first time these studies on shapes will appear in a single volume.
- Munari is one of the great designers of the twentieth century, with a wide following within the graphic design and art-world communities.
- "Bruno Munari is the Leonardo of our time."—Pablo Picasso

Riccardo Falcinelli

Издательство: Penguin Books

The new colour bible: a gorgeously illustrated exploration of colour and the modern gaze, from an award-winning designer

'One of the best books on colour I've read. A layered tapestry of stories, insights and ideas, each beautifully and clearly written. For anyone interested in colour, it's a must' Marion Deuchars

Why are pencils yellow and white goods white? Why is black the colour of mourning? What connects Queen Victoria's mauve gown and Michelle Obama's yellow dress?

In Chromorama, acclaimed graphic designer Riccardo Falcinelli delves deep into the history of colour to show how it has shaped the modern gaze. With over four hundred illustrations throughout and with examples ranging widely across art and culture - from the novels of Gustave Flaubert to The Simpsons, from Byzantine jewellery to misshapen fruit, from Mondrian to Hitchcock's thrillers - Falcinelli traces the evolution of our long relationship with colour, and how first the industrial revolution, and then the dawn of the internet age, changed it forever.

Beautifully designed, deeply researched, and written with warmth and wit, Chromorama is an engrossing account of shade and light, of tone and hue, of dyes, pigments, and pixels. It is the story of why we now see the world the way we do.

About the Author:

Riccardo Falcinelli is an award-winning graphic designer and best-selling author whose work has been highly acclaimed in Italy and around the world. He teaches at the ISIA Faculty of Design in Rome.

Timothy Samara
ID: 13405
Издательство: Rockport

A new and updated 3rd Edition of Rockport's best-selling Design Elements, a visually rich and accessible handbook that presents the fundamentals of design in lists, tips, brief text, and examples. With new images and diagrams, the book covers everything from working with grids, color application, typography, and imagery to how to finally put it all together.

Features include:

- The ultimate primer on graphic design's basic visual toolkit—dot, line, plane, texture, space, and contrast—and how these basics underpin all successful layouts
- An in-depth look at color — from its optical qualities and its effect on type to its potential for communication concepts and emotions
- One of the most thorough compilations of typography concepts to be found — including information on letterform structure and optics, combining typeface styles, the mechanics of detailed text typesetting, and using type as image
- An extensive overview of imagery — the endless possibilities of medium, depiction, abstraction, stylization, and how these all communicate effectively
- Methods for integrating type and image, including a tutorial on using grid systems to structure layouts
- Twenty rules for making good design — and the best ways to break them

Being a creative designer is often about coming up with unique design solutions. But when the basic rules of design are ignored in an effort to be distinctive, design becomes useless. In language, a departure from the rules is only appreciated as great literature if recognition of the rules underlies the text. Graphic design is a "visual language," and brilliance is recognized in designers whose work seems to break all the rules, yet communicates its messages clearly.

Effective layout is essential to communication and enables the end-user to not only be drawn in with an innovative design, but to digest information easily. Making and Breaking the Grid is a comprehensive layout design workshop that assumes that in order to effectively break the rules of grid-based design, one must first understand those rules and see them applied to real-world projects.

Basics include composing typographic space, format determination, and sequencing and systemization. Various types of grids manuscript, column, modular, hierarchical are also covered.

Text reveals top designers' work in process and rationale. Projects with similar characteristics are linked through a simple notational system that encourages exploration and comparison of structure ideas. Each project is shown comprehensively so readers can see its structure revealed over several pages, at a size that allows for inspection of detail.

Also included are historical overviews that summarize the development of layout concepts, both grid-based and non-grid based, in modern design practice.

The multidimensional nature and simplicity of geometric shapes have fascinated designers since design's early days

The creative possibilities that they offer are unlimited, and we interpret them constantly. Whereas the rectangle represents symmetry and order, the square, with its equal faces and angles, denotes calm and neutrality, and the circle evokes perfection and infinity.

Shapes: Geometric Forms in Graphic Design reveals how the most innovative studios and agencies continue to reinvent geometric shapes to create new design philosophies.

This is an essential guide for those who wish to incorporate new insights into their creative repertoire.

John Berger
ID: 15286
Издательство: Penguin Books

Based on the BBC television series, John Berger's Ways of Seeing is a unique look at the way we view art, published as part of the Penguin on Design series in Penguin Modern Classics.

'Seeing comes before words. The child looks and recognizes before it can speak.'

'But there is also another sense in which seeing comes before words. It is seeing which establishes our place in the surrounding world; we explain that world with words, but word can never undo the fact that we are surrounded by it. The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.'

John Berger's Ways of Seeing is one of the most stimulating and influential books on art in any language. First published in 1972, it was based on the BBC television series about which the Sunday Times critic commented: 'This is an eye-opener in more ways than one: by concentrating on how we look at paintings . . . he will almost certainly change the way you look at pictures.' By now he has.

John Berger (b. 1926) is an art critic, painter and novelist.born in Hackney, London.
His novel G. (1972) won both the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and the Booker Prize.

If you enjoyed Ways of Seeing, you might like Susan Sontag's On Photography, also available in Penguin Modern Classics.

'Berger has the ability to cut right through the mystification of professional art critics ... he is a liberator of images: and once we have allowed the paintings to work on us directly, we are in a much better position to make a meaningful evaluation'
Peter Fuller, Arts Review

'The influence of the series and the book ... was enormous ... It opened up for general attention areas of cultural study that are now commonplace'
Geoff Dyer in Ways of Telling

'One of the most influential intellectuals of our time'
Observer

About the Author:

John Berger was born in London in 1926. His acclaimed works of both fiction and non-fiction include the seminal Ways of Seeing and the novel G., which won the Booker Prize in 1972. In 1962 he left Britain permanently, to live in a small village in the French Alps. He died in 2017.
