Innovation, exclusivity, and elegance define Patek Philippe, a family-owned company with a single and passionate calling: to perfect the watch. These lavishly illustrated books present some of the most important timepieces from the more than 3,000 watches exhibited at the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva. These precious timepieces have been passionately assembled over more than 40 years by Philippe Stern, Honorary President of the company, and include some of the most valuable pieces in watchmaking history. The books allow you to take the Patek Philippe Museum’s exhibition home with you, or, alternatively, to get a preview of its treasures before you visit.

From the collection of historic watches featuring the first portable timepieces dating back to the 16th century to innovative milestones in Patek Philippe’s portfolio since its founding in 1839, each watch is reproduced with such beauty and precision that you can almost hear it ticking. With expert curatorial insight and context from Peter Friess, Conservateur of the Patek Philippe Museum, these intricate mechanisms are not only presented for themselves; they also offer a unique perspective into the cultural history of the last 500 years. True to the trust and excellence of the Patek Philippe brand, the presentation, the extraordinary book design by Birgit Binner, and content of these sumptuous publications meet the highest professional standards. They are the perfect books for the “perfect watch.”

- Two richly illustrated books presented in a slipcase — the result of a unique collaboration between teNeues and one of the most sought-after watch brands of our time
- 235 rare watches from the history of watchmaking
- Two lavish books for collectors and lovers of luxury watches
- Take home your own version of the “Temple to Watchmaking”

About the Author:

In directing and curating the Patek Philippe Museum, Peter Friess, a master watchmaker, patented inventor, educator, and art historian, found his dream job, which, he says, “put me into direct contact with the world’s most creative watchmakers and skilled craftsmen of all kinds. For me, Patek Philippe is not only a manufacturer of watches, but a protector of world heritage, keeping alive crafts like enamel painting, which would not have survived without the company’s efforts to preserve them.”

Gregory Crewdson
ID: 15225
Издательство: Abrams

Twilight chronicles the art of photographer Gregory Crewdson’s gallery exhibitions of his fantastic, creative images.

“Crewdson is at the forefront of a movement in contemporary photography that has abandoned realism in pursuit of pure cinematic fantasy.”—New York Times Magazine

Twilight: in that zone between the certainty of day and fear of the dark, Gregory Crewdson sets his eerie, enigmatic photographs. A woman floats in her flooded living room; a cow appears to have fallen from the sky onto a front lawn; a gang of teenagers, seemingly hypnotized, pile up household objects for a bonfire. Created as elaborately staged tableaux, this series of images suggests the bizarre yet beautiful surrealities behind deceptively familiar suburban facades.

Including both production stills and the 40 finished images, all in full color, this volume features an essay by Pushcart Prize–winning author Rick Moody, a novelist equally renowned for exposing the underbelly of small-town, middle-class America.

_____________

Crewdson's most recent series of photographs, Twilight, are created as elaborately constructed film stills, catching the mysterious moment of time between before and after, revealing unknowable or unimaginable aspects of domestic reality.

A cow lies on its back on the lawn between two houses while firemen secure the area and a man searches the sky. Could the cow have rained down from above? In another image stacks and stacks of inedible slices of bread - bearing an odd resemblance to the mysterious monoliths at Stonehenge - are watched over by a gathering of birds. Both entirely foreign and oddly familiar, these images are carefully orchestrated events that challenge our very notions of familiarity, undermining our sense of certainty. These eerie and evocative photographs pair beauty with horror, obsession with disgust, and the real with the surreal, suggesting narratives open to endless interpretations. The book includes an essay written by fiction writer Rick Moody.

The book and exhibitions are comprised of the forty images from his Twilight series which was begun in 1998 - these exhibitions and this book chronicle the completion of the series and mark the first time it will be seen in its entirety.

Martin Gayford

Издательство: Thames & Hudson

A visual journey through five centuries of the city known for centuries as 'La Serenissima' - a unique and compelling story for both lovers of Venice and lovers of its art.

Venice was a major centre of art in the Renaissance: the city where the medium of oil on canvas became the norm. The achievements of the Bellini brothers, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese are a key part of this story. Nowhere else has been depicted by so many great painters in so many diverse styles and moods. Venetian views were a speciality of native artists such as Canaletto and Guardi, but the city has also been represented by outsiders: J. M. W. Turner, Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent, Howard Hodgkin, and many more.

Then there are those who came to look at and write about art. The reactions of Henry James, George Eliot, Richard Wagner and others enrich this tale. Nor is the story over. Since the advent of the Venice Biennale in the 1890s, and the arrival of pioneering modern art collector Peggy Guggenheim in the late 1940s, the city has become a shop window for the contemporary art of the whole world, and it remains the site of important artistic events.

In this elegant volume, Gayford - who has visited Venice countless times since the 1970s, covered every Biennale since 1990, and even had portraits of himself exhibited there on several occasions - takes us on a visual journey through the past five centuries of the city known 'La Serenissima', the Most Serene. It is a unique and compelling portrait of Venice that will delight lovers of the city and lovers of its art.

About the Author:

Martin Gayford is a writer and art critic. His books include Michelangelo: His Epic Life (Penguin), as well as Man with a Blue Scarf (in which he recounts the experience of being painted by Freud), Modernists and Mavericks, Spring Cannot Be Cancelled (with David Hockney), A History of Pictures (with David Hockney), Shaping the World (with Antony Gormley), and Love Lucian: The Letters of Lucian Freud, 1939-1954 (with David Dawson), all published by Thames & Hudson.

Photographs by Vincent Peters
ID: 14743
Издательство: teNeues

An ode to beauty — Vincent Peters’s best black-and-white photographs presented for the first time in a Collector’s Edition with an elegant linen finish.

Vincent Peters, born in Bremen, Germany, in 1969, is one of today’s most active fashion photographers. At age of 20, he moved to New York, where he worked as a photo assistant. Upon his return to Europe, he worked for a number of art galleries before launching his own fashion photography career at Giovanni Testino. Peters’s clients include Wolfgang Joop, Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, Emporio Armani, and Lancôme.

Over the last quarter-century, Vincent Peters’s photographs have graced the pages of Vogue, Glamour, and GQ and defined fashion campaigns from Dior to Hugo Boss to Yves Saint Laurent. One of the most sought-after portrait and fashion photographers, Vincent Peters prints also have a significant following in the fine art market.

Vincent Peters’s photographs are defined by their precision, love of detail, and an exquisite lighting that lifts his images beyond fast-moving trends into something timeless and iconic. With an aesthetic reminiscent of Jeanloup Sieff or Herb Ritts, Peters manages to capture even the most photographed of faces — whether Scarlett Johansson, Monica Bellucci, or Penélope Cruz — with previously unseen nuance, creating a new sense of intimacy with each subject.

Featuring Charlize Theron, Laetitia Casta, John Malkovich, and Emma Watson

About the Author:

Vincent Peters’s work has already appeared in The Light Between Us and Personal. Now, in parallel with the major Vincent Peters solo show at Fotografiska in Stockholm, this compact and affordable Vincent Peters photo book presents a selection of his best black-and-white images, including portraits of Charlize Theron, John Malkovich, Laetitia Casta, and Emma Watson. It’s a vivid overview of a photographic artist who is always evolving while remaining true to his principles.

A concise compendium of Vivian Maier's enduring images

With the discovery of her archive in a thrift auction house in 2007, Vivian Maier’s posthumous trajectory from relative obscurity to one of the great American photographers of the 20th century is a story of a singular consistent talent. From the mid 1950s throughout her adult life she worked as a nanny between New York and Chicago, and it was during this time that she created a huge body of photographs and films recording every day street life, often including her own self portrait and moments of fleeting reflection within the cityscape. With her work compared to Helen Levitt, Robert Frank and Diane Arbus, her photographs are a fascinating window into American life.

Издательство: teNeues

Compelling portraits of celebrities and politicians from four of history’s most eventful decades. An overdue and in-depth retrospective of one of the most important German photojournalists

For almost four decades Volker Hinzʼs photographs defined the look of Stern magazine. His subtle yet revealing portraits of German politicians from Willy Brandt onwards are a vivid historical and artistic record of the Federal Republic.

As masterful as any of the major figures he profiled, Hinz excelled at capturing exactly the right moment. His reportage from the U.S. and across the globe gave us memorable images of greats such as Muhammad Ali, Woody Allen, Pelé and Franz Beckenbauer. Hinz’s works are classics that linger indelibly in our collective consciousness. Unlike most celebrity photography, his images have both the crisp candor of a snapshot and the reflective depth of fine art.
