The Photography Staff of the NY Times, Introduction by David W. Dunlap
ID: 16132
Видавництво: Rizzoli

Curated from hundreds of thousands of photos from The New York Times' archives Only in New York brings together the most memorable, poignant, and historic images of the Big Apple. This beautiful gift book celebrates New York in a way that will be treasured by native New Yorkers and tourists alike.

The New York Times is the world's foremost news organization, but it is very much a hometown paper, too. Since the inception of the camera, Times photographers have captured every newsworthy event--and many of the most iconic and intimate moments--that together document the very spirit and essence of New York City.

These 500 photos are selected and paired in clever, humorous, and poignant diptychs that bring the city to life as you could only see in NYC--from Broadway to Yankee Stadium, nightlife to street life, skyscrapers to subways. And since the turn of the last century, NY Times photographers have been visually recording the vast, and vastly interesting and entertaining, mix of people, places, and institutions that provide New York with its reputation as the city that occasionally dozes but never closes. This collection of their work spans more than a century, providing a vivid chronicle of metropolitan life at its most vibrant. Most of all, of course, there are the people and the neighborhoods they inhabit. Through the work of such celebrated New York Times photographers as Damon Winter, Neal Boenzi, Fred R. Conrad, Ruth Fremson, Vincent Laforet, Michelle Agins, Todd Heisler, Chang W. Lee, Barton Silverman, Sara Krulwich, Michelle Agins, Tyler Hicks, and many more, the spirit of the city is captured in this extraordinary book. Their ability to capture the familiar in original ways, and the seldom-seen in surprising ones, gives this book the look and feel of a true original.

Only in New York is a celebration of New York City and its people--and is sure to be treasured by native New Yorkers, tourists, and anyone who aspires to "make it there."

About the Authors:

The New York Times is a daily newspaper published in New York City and distributed internationally. Founded in 1851, the newspaper has won 95 Pulitzer prizes, more than any other newspaper. David W. Dunlap has covered New York City's infrastructure, architecture, engineering, landmarks, public spaces, and transportation for The New York Times since 1981. His reporting since 2003 has concentrated on the redevelopment of the World Trade Center. He also serves as the keeper of Times history. Dunlap's books include Building Provincetown (2015) and From Abyssinian to Zion (2004).

Combining daring aerial photography with the restricted airspace over Paris provides both breathtaking and unparalleled views.

From sunrise to sunset, Paris is one of the most photographed cities in the world. Shooting with the newest high-resolution medium-format professional cameras while leaning out of helicopters making steep turns with the door off, Milstein captures the highly detailed, iconic, straight-down images that set his work apart.

Milstein's distinctive style -- straight down -- leads to fresh insights of the urban design of this great city. In a way that is impossible from street level, you can see the old neighborhoods of Montmartre and Montparnasse; iconic historical monuments like the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe or the Invalides; and modern Paris like La Défense or the new neighborhoods around the Bibliothèque Nationale. As a bonus, there is a portfolio of images of the gardens and buildings of Louis XIV's great palace, Versailles.

Milstein brings his unique and unmatched aerial vistas of Paris to life -- every angle, every moment, every season. This is sure to be treasured by tourists and Parisians alike.

Text by Massimo Recalcati and Claudio Strinati, Photographs by Moreno Maggi

Видавництво: Rizzoli

After the pandemic, Rome will never be the same again, because the Eternal City has discovered the silence of man’s absence, an overpowering loneliness.

Like the rest of the world, Rome stopped during the pandemic triggered by Covid-19, remaining indefinitely in a state of suspended animation. The images taken in those days by the photographer Moreno Maggi capture this particular moment of a sleeping city and reveal a side of Rome that has never been seen before, in which the lines and geometries of the great works emerge more clearly than ever before, in all their beauty. Augmented reality makes the experience even more evocative, with visions of the deserted city created with a drone.

Psychoanalyst Massimo Recalcati reminds us of what can always happen in dreams or nightmares: the familiar scene of the city emptied out. Art historian Claudio Strinati, an exceptional guide to this surreal city, describes monuments, historic buildings, and squares.

Beauty envelops us and saves us in a version of Rome that becomes a symbol of eternal rebirth. This is a large volume that commemorates one of the most intense periods of the century.

About the Author:

Massimo Recalcati is an eminent psychoanalyst who has published numerous books. Claudio Strinati is one of the most authoritative art experts and a connoisseur of seventeenth-century Italy. Moreno Maggi is an architectural photographer.

An evocative portrait of New York City by more than 40 photographers from around the world

More than 60 million people visit New York City each year. Every single traveller experiences the city in a unique way. There is no such thing as one New York. Streets of New York is a New York photo book that celebrates the Big Apple’s tremendous diversity by bringing together over 40 contemporary photographers and their multiple perspectives on this unique metropolis.

Often drawing on a strong social media presence, each photographer offers her or his personal take on New York’s unparalleled vibrancy, impact, and allure, creating both a rich collection of city photography and street style, and a visual catalogue of New York travel inspirations. Photographs of world-renowned New York landmarks and attractions like the Empire State Building, Brooklyn Bridge, and World Trade Center Transportation Hub are interspersed with pictures of New York’s hidden treasures, tucked-away Manhattan charms, and lesser-known, but equally interesting New York City districts — all captured with a present-day attention to detail and a wide-eyed love for the City that Never Sleeps.

At the heart of MENDO is the love of pure design. Before establishing the inspirational concept store and go-to flagship bookstore for style-conscious bibliophiles in Amsterdam in 2002, founders Roy Rietstap and Joost Albronda were accomplished graphic designers with an eye for innovation and entrepreneurship. Thus, a brilliant retail concept was created in the form of the MENDO of today. The collaboration of teNeues x MENDO is a synergy on many levels — a premier international publisher of illustrated books on culture combining with trendsetting designers with a great love for beautiful, asthetically-minded books — housed in a one-of-a-kind global bookstore. If you look closely, you will see that the simple, elegant black walls are actually made of precise stacks of books — an idea that is typical Amsterdam

Streets of New York is part of the Streets of… series of books which gathers the personal visions of a favourite metropolis by multiple photographers
