Richard Garvey-Williams
ID: 17027
Издательство: Ammonite

What makes a great photo? Flicking through the pages of most popular photography magazines you might get the impression that there’s only one rule of importance – ‘the rule of thirds’. Indeed it appears that some will judge the merit of a photograph based almost solely on this. Rarely do you hear discussion about ‘visual weight’, ‘balance’, ‘negative space’, ‘depth’ and so on. Author and professional photographer Richard Garvey-Williams argues that success lies in a combination of four elements: an impactful subject; dynamic composition; effective use of lighting; and, perhaps the most crucial, ability to invoke an emotional response in the viewer.

In clear, concise and jargon-free text he also considers the role of tone and colour in good composition, and offers invaluable tips and the tools to help the photographer take control of the creative process. The book is illustrated with examples of the author’s own beautiful nature photography, along with diagrams and notation to explain techniques most clearly. A final chapter in this definitive guide for all serious photographers discusses photography and its relationship to art before offering a considered conclusion to the exploration of this fascinating topic.

About the Author:

Richard Garvey-Williams was fortunate to have spent much of his up-bringing in East Africa and naturally developed a love for the wildlife that was so abundant at that time. On leaving school he obtained a degree in Zoology from Manchester University, but it was only later that his passion for the natural world was re-kindled, largely by linking it to his other love, photography. Richard and his wife Lisa spent eight years living in the southern part of Greece in an area blessed with some wonderful mountain scenery and deep gorges. This, in combination with the changes that occurred through the seasons and the wonderful light quality, provided excellent opportunities for him to hone his landscape photography skills. In addition to exhibiting prints and publishing his work, Richard regularly leads photographic safaris and landscape photography workshop holidays abroad, in addition to workshops and tutorials to individuals and small groups at his South Devon home.

Brian Lloyd Duckett

Street photography has a tradition dating back over a century, and embracing such artists as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Vivian Maier and Lee Friedlander. In today’s digital world, where every event seems to be documented and shared, this vibrant art form is enjoying a renaissance. And yet, compared to such genres as portrait and landscape photography, there is little expert advice available. Mastering Street Photography is a practical guide to capturing the candid moments that reveal life at its most dramatic, absurd or beautiful.

Principal and Course Tutor of the Streetsnappers workshops, Brian Lloyd Duckett presents the techniques that can elevate images of the urban landscape from the ordinary to the extraordinary. He demonstrates how the successful street photographer needs to be an unseen observer, with the camera a mirror of everyday scenes and unaware subjects. A guide to equipment and technical skills leads into lessons in finding inspiration, developing projects and composing different subjects and scenes – laying the foundations for you to impose your personality on your street photography and develop your own distinctive style.

The book also addresses such key issues as staying safe and within the law when photographing on the street, and the art of building an audience for your images. The result is an inspirational and practical guide that will ensure your street photography stands out from the crowd.

About the Author:

Brian Lloyd Duckett is the Principal and Course Tutor at StreetSnappers, a specialist in street photography workshops and tutorials in London and cities across Europe. A highly successful commercial and editorial photographer, he teaches as a Visiting Lecturer on photography degree courses. He has worked for many leading newspapers and commercial organizations, but his hobby and passion is street photography.

Whether you’re the photographer behind the camera or the model in front of the lens, chances are you could use some help with posing, which is one of the biggest challenges when it comes to portrait photography. POSE! provides the knowledge and the inspiration you need to make your next photo shoot a success.

With over 1,000 different looks for you to recreate and experiment with, the book covers a wide range of poses and subject matter in an easily accessible and visually dynamic layout. Each pose covered consists of a main pose followed by three variations on that pose. Organized by subject matter, POSE! covers:

- WOMEN: Portrait, Beauty, Fashion, Lingerie, Implied Nude, Curvy, Curvy Boudoir, Sports, Business, Wall
- MEN: Portrait, Fashion, Implied Nude, Sports, Business, Wall
- COUPLES: Portrait, Fashion, Implied Nude, Sports
- MATERNITY: Mother, Couple
- FAMILY: Parents and Baby, New Family, Children

Whether you use POSE! as an educational tool to explore the art of posing, or you simply use it as a look-book to find photographic inspiration or to help you direct a model, you’ll quickly improve your portrait photography starting with your very next shoot.

About the Author:

Mehmet Eygi is an entrepreneur, photographer, creative director, and consultant based in Cologne, Germany. After studying communications, product design, and photography, he worked for large international photo studios as a consultant and creative director. One of his responsibilities was to review photo shoots with clients. What began as a means of quality control soon developed into a passion for people photography. After photographing nearly a thousand different subjects, Mehmet began to recognize a common problem: photographers and models each have their own level of posing skills, and this determines the results of a photo shoot. Mehmet decided to develop standardized practices for posing techniques. He self-published an eBook to teach these essential lessons, and the book immediately took off. His approach proved to be so successful that book publishers have brought the book to market it German, French, and now English. With his new company, Sedcard24.com, Mehmet has created a specialized marketing tool for models and actors: printed and digital comp cards for use as a quick presentation of their portfolios. He is currently building a search engine for models, which will make it easy for photographers all over the world to find models nearby.

Learn to train your eye and improve your timing in order to capture the decisive moment!

Whether it’s due to social media or the introduction of great rangefinder-style digital cameras over a decade ago, street photography has experienced a remarkable resurgence in recent years. You can be roaming the streets of a classic urban environment (New York, Paris, Tokyo) or on a simple photo walk around a quiet neighborhood — it has never been more popular to pursue the art of capturing those candid, fleeting moments that happen throughout the day, of freezing a moment in time and transforming the ordinary into an extraordinary photograph.

But learning to see light and moment, to make quick decisions, and to nail a photographic composition are all crucial skills you must master in order to become a good street photographer. Photographer, instructor, and author Valerie Jardin has been teaching photographers how to take better photographs for years, and in Street Photography Assignments: 75 Reasons to Hit the Streets and Learn, she provides dozens of prompts for you to practice in order to refine and improve your craft.

These activities focus on themes such as:

- Street portraits
- Gesture
- Shadows
- Silhouettes
- Rim light
- Humor
- Abstract
- Tension
- Motion
- Reflections
- Leading lines
- Creative framing
- Juxtapositions
- Double exposures
- And much, much more!

Each assignment includes a description of the technique, various tips and tricks to practice, technical and compositional considerations, and an example photo that Jardin has captured when practicing the same exercise. Whether you have 30 minutes or 3 hours, each assignment is an opportunity for you to take your camera and hit the streets. No more excuses!
