For all chrono fans, collectors and watch enthusiasts there is now the brilliant and completely revised new edition "The Watch Book Compendium". The comprehensive coffee-table book replaces the earlier "The Watch Book Compendium" and combines "The Watch Book I" and "The Watch Book II". As usual, the successful author Gisbert L. Brunner shines with his extensive expertise and brings his readers closer to the history of the wristwatch with more than 1,000 high-resolution photographs. With over 40 pieces, hardly any other illustrated book gathers more premium watch brands under one roof.

The predecessors of "The Watch Book Compendium - Revised Editon" have long been considered standard works among experts. Because no other photo book depicts more of the noble timepieces. The author shows the luxury timepieces not only in a frontal and side view, as many catalogs have to offer. The reader often gets a direct look at the sophisticated mechanics of these small masterpieces of extraordinary craftsmanship. There is no more beautiful and artistic way to present accomplished technology.

Gisbert L. Brunner invites his interested reader on a journey through time in the world of the watch. Beginning with the earliest beginnings of the art of watchmaking, we accompany him piece by piece into the modern age. Because even today, premium watches are a sign of style, taste and status symbol. The presentation of the precious materials, the beautiful designs and the insight into the sophisticated technology, enchants real watch fans and makes "The Watch Book Compendium - Revised Edition" a perfect gift.

About the Author:

Gisbert L. Brunner, born in 1947, has been involved with precision timepieces of all kinds since the 1960s, primarily wristwatches. During the quartz watch crisis in the 1970s, his love for the seemingly dying mechanical timepieces increased even more. His passion for collecting led to his first articles in the early 1980s. In the meantime, Brunner has published more than 15 books on the subject. He is in demand worldwide as a lecturer.

A guide to the art, artists, and culture of graffiti from the 1970s to today, as told by the taggers themselves

This major co-publication with the Museum of Graffiti chronicles the worldwide graffiti movement from its birth in the 1970s, through the street and train painting of the 1980s, to its emergence as an artistic genre admired in museums and sold at auction. With hundreds of never-before-seen photographs of graffiti art from the 1970s to today, many of which have been provided exclusively for this volume by the artists themselves, the book gives an insider’s view through multiple interviews with celebrated graffiti artists, including Roger Smith of Sane Smith, Hotboy Hert, DESA, Shirt King Phade, RIME, MadC, Saber, AURA, and others.

Told through essays, hundreds of images, and interviews with the artists – both the underground outlaws and the writers who went mainstream – The Wide World of Graffiti will become the standard-bearer of the art form’s history and life today, a unique contribution from the first and only museum dedicated to graffiti as an art form.

About the Author:

Alan Ket is an artist, graffiti historian, and cofounder of the Museum of Graffiti. Ket has contributed to such publications as the 1990s cult zine Stress, and graffiti, music, and culture magazines Complex and Vibe. He has consulted on product launches embodying street culture and has worked with art institutions to develop programming. Ket has documented street art throughout the world while painting with many of the top graffiti artists.

A global overview of how contemporary artists incorporate text and the written word into work that speaks to some of the most pressing issues of the 21st century

Digital communication has seen the word as text permeate life in ways that the poets and artists of yesterday could never have imagined. Presenting a history of the word- and book-based art, and examining major areas where the word has dominated artistic practice, this book takes us on a fascinating and richly illustrated global tour of diverse contemporary art forms.

What value can text hold in the sphere of visual art? How is such text different from poetry? Can the poetic itself be visual art, or is text in this context consigned to the realms of gimmick and catchphrase? Looking at the work of a broad range of artists including Bruce Nauman, Julien Breton, Jeremy Deller, Tracey Emin, Jenny Holzer, Shirin Neshat and many more, The Word is Art examines each of these questions, contending above all that in the digital age, words have become more important than ever.

With the advent of texting and social media, many predicted the debasement of language, and some have pointed to evidence of this in our so-called ‘post-truth’ culture. Michael Petry demonstrates that, on the contrary, words remain critical, powerful and central to art practice.

About the Author:

Michael Petry is an artist, author and Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), London, and Guest Curator for culture agency Futurecity. His latest book, Nature Morte: Contemporary Artists Reinvigorate the Still-Life Tradition, was also published by Thames & Hudson.

This truly global and visually stunning compendium showcases some of the most breathtaking pieces of street art and graffiti from around the world.

Since its genesis on the East Coast of the United States in the late 1960s, street art has travelled to nearly every corner of the globe, morphing into highly ornate and vibrant new styles.

This unique atlas is the first truly geographical survey of urban art, revised and updated in 2023 to include new voices, increased female representation and cities emerging as street art hubs.

Featuring specially commissioned works from major graffiti and street art practitioners, it offers you an insider’s view of the urban landscape as the artists themselves experience it.

Organized geographically, by continent and by city – from New York, Los Angeles and Montreal in North America, through Mexico City and Buenos Aires in Latin America, to London, Berlin and Madrid in Europe, Sydney and Auckland in the Pacific, as well as brand new chapters covering Africa and Asia – it profiles more than 100 of today’s most important artists and features over 700 astonishing artworks.

This beautifully illustrated book, produced with the help of many of the artists it features, dispels the idea of such art as a thoughtless defacement of pristine surfaces, and instead celebrates it as a contemporary and highly creative inscription upon the skin of the built environment.

About the Authors:

Dr Rafael Schacter is an anthropologist and curator from London. He co-curated the ‘Street Art’ exhibition at Tate Modern, London, in 2008. He has written for a variety of publications and has lectured on Independent Public Art around the world. His ethnography, Ornament and Order, is based on an ongoing engagement as well as more than two years’ in-depth fieldwork with some of the world’s most important Independent Public Artists.

Working across art-making and academia over three decades, Lachlan MacDowall is a scholar of graffiti, street art and digital culture, best known for pioneering research methods that mix genres, images and data. As a writer and photographer, he has pioneered new methods to register the complexity of graffiti and street art, including its rise as cultural heritage, challenges to documentation and photographic practices, the uses of bio-social paradigms, the analysis of data-rich environments and its connection to white supremacism and the alt-right.    He has published widely on the history and aesthetics of graffiti and street art, including in his most recent books Instafame: Graffiti and Street Art in the Instagram Era (2019) published by Intellect Books and the University of Chicago Press and (with Kylie Budge) Art After Instagram: Art Spaces, Audiences, Aesthetics (2022) published by Routledge. Bringing the life and works of the great painter to life, Kandinsky explores the extraordinary output of one of Russia’s most well-known and influential artists. This book follows his artistic development, from the early folk art inspired by his native Russia, via his involvement with both Der Blaue Reiter (‘The Blue Rider’) group and the Bauhaus, where he taught for several years, to the later abstract paintings that are so recognizable today.

A complex and intriguing character, Kandinsky trained as a lawyer before abruptly turning to art at the age of 30. Although known internationally as the ‘Father of Abstraction’, this was a concept over which he anguished for years, before embracing it in his later work.

Both in his writings and in his paintings, Kandinsky’s influence has been enormous. He, in turn, was influenced by many different movements, from Art Nouveau to Symbolism and Surrealism. This book charts his artistic progress and is a stunning of an exceptional artist.
