Rachel Church is a Curator in the Sculpture, Metalwork, Ceramics and Glass Department at the Victoria and Albert Museum with a special responsibility for the rings collection. She has published and lectured on jewelry and worked on the re-display of the William and Judith Bollinger Jewellery Gallery. She has contributed to a number of V&A publications, including writing on gold boxes in The Gilbert Collection at the V&A (2009).

David Gahr (1922–2008) was tapped by Columbia Records designer John Berg to shoot cover art for Bruce Springsteen’s second album, The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle. Gahr’s earliest photographs of the musician showcase a youthful Springsteen, not even aged twenty-three, in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on the eve of a career breakthrough. Gahr befriended the rising star, and over a span of approximately ten years he photographed Springsteen, both on- and offstage. Rare captures include Springsteen recording music, performing at the cramped venue Bottom Line weeks before the release of his seminal 1975 album Born to Run, and playing to legions of fans during his Born in the USA tour. Bruce Springsteen 1973–1986 is an unprecedented look back at Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on their path to becoming rock legends.

Fascinated by Buddhist art and Asian spirituality, Alain Bordier has spent more than forty years building a unique collection of religious objects from the Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan). Julian Rose regularly contributes articles to publications such as Aperture, Architectural Review, Artforum, Perspecta, and October. He was a Senior Editor at Artforum from 2012 to 2018 and is a cofounder of the design studio Formlessfinder, whose work was selected for inclusion in MoMA’s 2011 Young Architects Program, won the 2012 AIA NY New Practices Award, and was recognized with the 2020 Architecture League Prize. His design work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the Chicago Architecture Biennial and the Venice Biennale of Architecture. Rose has taught architectural design and history at Columbia University and Princeton University. He received his BA from Harvard University and his M.Arch. from Princeton University School of Architecture and is currently completing a PhD in Art and Archaeology at Princeton University. He lives in New York City.

Yve-Alain Bois is a world-renowned expert on modern and contemporary art. Among the renowned Old Master paintings at the Wallace Collection in London is an important group of 27 eighteenth-century views of Venice, known as vedute, by Canaletto and his followers, including Francesco Guardi. They hang together in a dedicated gallery known as the Canaletto Room, but until recently the majority had not been cleaned since the nineteenth century and their original beauty was obscured by multiple layers of discoloured varnish.

The paintings have now been restored and rephotographed, following a multi-year conservation and research project that has also led to a reappraisal of them. Carrie Moyer’s first major monograph expansively represents the influential abstract painter’s work and queer agitprop.

Carrie Moyer consciously centers her painting as a practice about painting, with history as a subtext. Known for her incursions into Color Field painting, Moyer also traces her influences to iconic female artists of the twentieth century, such as Georgia O’Keeffe, and surrounding questions of taste, once quipping of her paintings that “[Helen] Frankenthaler and [Fernand] Léger met in a dark corner and had Elizabeth Murray.”

Moyer’s complex work merges abstract aesthetics and legible imagery: vividly colored and textured forms are embedded with a range of historical, stylistic, and physical references to Surrealism, Modernism, 1960s and ’70s counterculture graphics, and ’70s feminist art. Moyer often works on the floor, pouring, rolling, stippling, mopping the paint, and embellishing with glitter. An exploration of acrylic’s unique properties is a driving force in her work. Beginning as an intern at HERESIES, the pioneering feminist art magazine, Moyer has also engaged in critical practices beyond the studio.

This monograph enriches a deep dive into Moyer’s painting practice, in particular her work of the past decade, with a portfolio of the artist’s agitprop from the 1990s, including Dyke Action Machine! (DAM!), one of the first lesbian public art projects.
