A companion to M to M of M/M (Paris) (2012), presenting the best of M/M’s work over the past decade

Originally established in 1992 by Michaël Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak as a graphic design studio, M/M (Paris) have since defied categorisation, becoming one of the most radical creative practices of today through their influential work across the contemporary cultural sphere.

By collaborating with fashion designers and brands such as Alexander McQueen, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Miuccia Prada, Jonathan Anderson, Nicolas Ghesquière and Yohji Yamamoto; musicians Björk, Étienne Daho, Kanye West, Lou Doillon, Madonna and Vanessa Paradis; contemporary artists including François Curlet, Philippe Parreno, Pierre Huyghe and Sarah Morris; and rethinking the iconic titles Interview magazine, Purple Fashion and Vogue Paris, M/M have been building a visual atlas of the creative landscape since the early 1990s.

In this illustrated A to Z, beginning and ending with the letter M, interviews with Michaël Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak frame over 850 images of their projects. A series of conversations with rarely heard luminaries – designers Peter Saville, Experimental Jetset, Cornel Windlin and Katsumi Asaba; fashion designers Miuccia Prada and Jonathan Anderson; artist Francesco Vezzoli; cinematographer Darius Khondji; chef Jean-François Piège; theatre director Arthur Nauzyciel and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist – are interspersed, providing a thought-provoking insight into the minds of one of the world’s most distinctive creative duos.

A foreword by Donatien Grau and an afterword by Éric Troncy bookend contributions by Emanuele Coccia, Jo-Ann Furniss, Alison M. Gingeras, Étienne Hervy, Emily King, Philippe Rouyer and Akira Takamiya. Edited by Grace Johnston, volume two of M to M of M/M (Paris) completes the first volume of M/M’s monograph published in 2012, and now republished by Thames & Hudson.

The definitive typographic exploration of the letter forms and typography of one of Europe’s leading design studios

Letters from M/M (Paris) is a comprehensive study of the typefaces produced by Michaël Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak since they founded their influential art and design practice, M/M (Paris).

For the first time, ninety of the designers’ typefaces are catalogued chronologically in a three-part volume, comprising the history of their development; exclusive type specimens; and detailed illustrations of projects in which they appear.

With a foreword by Björk – whose collaboration with M/M spans over two decades – this encyclopaedic volume traces the distinctive and integral nature of type, lettering and signs in the work of M/M, from one-off artistic commissions to fashion branding and their long-lasting collaborations with musicians and theatres.

This complete typographic collection is the perfect companion to the two-volume monograph M to M of M/M (Paris), and will appeal not only to graphic designers, historians and students, but to anyone interested in art and visual culture.

Available again, the 528-page monograph covering the first twenty years of M/M (Paris), one of the most emblematic and influential design and art practices of today

Michael Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak formed their studio, M/M (Paris), in 1992. Since then, it has become one of this generation's most distinctive and influential voices in graphic design.

Originally working for small independent music labels, M/M soon caught the attention of the fashion world, and later developed long-term collaborations with a rich array of iconic artists, art directors and musical artists - most notably, Bj?rk and Madonna. They have also produced unexpected three-dimensional designs for the stage, restaurants and perfume.

Designed by London's Graphic Thought Facility, and first published in 2012 to celebrate their 20th anniversary, this alphabetically organized book 'starts' in the middle with the letter 'M', presenting projects and interviews with the designers and key collaborators, including Pierre Huyghe, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Philippe Parreno and Nicolas Bourriaud. Covering the complete range of M/M's work, it offers rich insight into how they have created one of the most original and unified visual languages of our times.

Two Artists, One Vision. The genre-defying work of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin

Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s work has graced the walls and pages of some of the world’s finest galleries and fashion magazines. If it is surprising that their photographs easily float between these worlds, it is by virtue of their ease in creating imagery that seeks homes in both culturally elite and mainstream outlets.

For some of their photographs, such as their portrait of Björk or campaign for Givenchy, van Lamsweerde and Matadin have worked in collaboration with the art directors M/M (Paris), who have also designed this sumptuous three-volume retrospective. This edition looks back at “pretty much everything” that the photographers have worked on for over two decades, which has brought them to the forefront in the fields of both art and fashion.

The three-volume set includes over 600 images of Inez and Vinoodh’s oeuvre, alongside interviews and elucidating texts, and an original silk-screened poster, origami-folded over the top corner of the slipcase.

Limited Collector’s Edition of 1,000 copies (No.201–1,200), each numbered and signed by the artists
