The first book dedicated to the fashion photography of renowned British photographer Martin Parr

Fashion Faux Parr showcases Martin Parr’s collection of fashion photography for the first time in one book. More than 250 color images, many previously unpublished, explore a wide variety of fashion work, from editorial collaborations with major magazines and houses, including Vogue, Balenciaga, and Gucci, to candid photographs from behind the scenes at major fashion events and portraits of industry icons.

Two essays by influential fashion industry personalities Patrick Grant and Tabitha Simmons offer commentary on Parr’s unique view on the fashion world and set it within a wider context. This is the only book dedicated to Martin Parr’s highly original take on fashion, including both commissioned and personal photographs, as well as facsimiles of his published features in Vogue and other international fashion magazines.

About the Authors:

Martin Parr is one of the best-loved photographers working today. A member of the international photo agency Magnum, Parr is also a world authority on the photobook.

Patrick Grant is a Scottish fashion designer and television personality. He is the director of Norton & Sons of Savile Row, London, and is a judge on the popular BBC television series The Great British Sewing Bee.

Tabitha Simmons is  a stylist and shoe designer based in New York. She is also a contributing fashion editor at American   Vogue .

Featuring photographs taken throughout Martin Parr's prolific career to date, Real Food will comprise the very best of Parr's iconic imagery - a collection of close-up food shots, in typical garish colour, taken by Parr throughout his travels across the world.

Introduced with an essay by Fergus Henderson, British chef and founder of the restaurant St John's in London, which considers Parr's photographs in the context of global cuisine, and Parr's fascination with the social aspect of food that is at the heart of these photographs.

Fergus Henderson is a British chef and cookbook author, who opened London's St. John restaurant in 1994, and later St. John Bread and Wine, to wide critical acclaim. He is well known for his simple, pared down cooking and his philosophy of 'nose-to-tail eating', also the name of his first cookbook.

In the 1950s the space race between the USA and the USSR was well and truly on, and was for both a matter of pride and propaganda. But before man ventured into the cosmos, his four-legged friends would pave the way for space exploration.

The first canine cosmonaut was Laika, meaning ‘barker’. The little stray could never have anticipated that she would one day float 200 miles above the Moscow streets. She would be canonized as a proletarian hero, appearing on stamps, postcards and souvenirs. Her successors were Belka and Strelka, the first dogs to successfully return safely to Earth, and with them, the cult of the space dog was born.

This fascinating book tells the story of the space dogs, illustrated with legendary photographer Martin Parr’s vintage space-dog memorabilia. In a regime that eschewed celebrating individual achievement, these dogs became Soviet superstars, with a vast array of merchandise, books and films in their honour.

Internationally acclaimed photographer Martin Parr is also known for his astonishing and witty collections of twentieth-century ephemera. Previous publications include Boring Postcards, The Last Resort and a retrospective of his work, Martin Parr. He has also been involved in several TV and film collaborations, and in 2014 set up The Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol, UK.

Richard Hollingham is a multi-award-winning science and space journalist, BBC radio presenter and producer. Space correspondent for BBC future and presenter of the Space Boffins Podcast, Richard is also a video producer and launch commentator for the European Space Agency. He is a regular visitor to Russia, and has reported from space centres around the world, including the Baikonur cosmodrome and mission control Moscow.
