About the Author:

Gabriel Kline is a professional potter who has taught ceramics classes for nearly two decades. He is the founder and director of Odyssey ClayWorks. Gabriel serves as the resident artist program director, fostering connections with university programs and up-and-coming artists from around the world. He also directs Odyssey's community volunteer and non-profit work, including partnerships with various substance abuse and recovery programs as well as Creative Forces, a collaboration between the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, and state arts agencies. He is the author of Amazing Glaze and Amazing Glaze Recipes and Combinations and is the co-author of Amazing Glaze Food-Safe Recipes. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including The Complete Guide to Mid-Range Glazes and the 500 series. He lives in Asheville, North Carolina.

Ben Carter is a studio potter and workshop instructor and the author of Mastering the Potter’s Wheel. He received his BFA in ceramics/painting from Appalachian State University and his MFA in ceramics from the University of Florida. He has lectured and presented workshops at universities and craft centers in the United States, China, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand and exhibited internationally in numerous invitational and juried shows. Ben’s work has been featured in the Australian Journal of CeramicsPottery Making Illustrated, and Ceramics MonthlyPottery Making Illustrated named him Ceramic Arts 2016 Yearbook Artist of the Year. Since 2012, he has been hosting and producing the popular podcast, Tales of a Red Clay Rambler. Ben lives in New Jersey.

Sunshine Cobb, author of Mastering Hand Building, is a ceramic artist and instructor based in California, where she is currently a visiting professor at Sacramento State University. She has previously held adjunct or visiting professor roles at Sonoma State University, University of Pacific, and Utah State. She has experience with everything from eight-day anagama wood firings to slip casting ornaments, but she focuses her talent on functional ware, embracing the richness of earthenware and exploring the challenge of electric firing. Sunshine has been the recipient of the Windgate Fellowship Emerging Artist award, a featured emerging artist in Ceramics Monthly (cover artist), and a long-term resident at Archie Bray. She has taught workshops across the country including Penland School of Crafts, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Arrowmont, Santa Fe Clay, and The Clay Studio. She holds a BA in studio art from CSU Sacramento and an MFA in ceramic art from Utah State University.

She is the recipient of numerous grants and award, including NC Arts Council Fellowship Grant, a Virginia Groot Foundation Recognition Grant, several International Association of Art Critics of Puerto Rico awards, and in 2015 the prestigious United States Artist Fellowship award. Her work is widely featured in all major ceramics and arts media, including the covers of Ceramics Monthly, and was featured by Craft in America, on PBS, in their episode on Identity.

Cristina has taught and demonstrated around the world, though she focuses mostly on US locations.
