The Baltic Sea has gained rapidly in importance as a travel destination in recent years. More and more people appreciate the diversity found among urban designer hubs, sleepy and cozy villages, and ever-changing coastal strips. The new volume in the series on design retreats shows destinations away from mass tourism with a focus around the Great Belt.

Both an architectural and a travel guide, this volume offers inspiration and promises to fulfill the longing for peace, solitude and variety – for holidays spent at a farmstead on the dyke, above the sea on a crane, or in a fancy loft in Copenhagen. The common denominators among all accommodations presented here are a convincing design and a special location by the Baltic Sea.

The "Where Architects Stay"- Series heads towards the Water: Stylish vacation accommodations in the Baltic Sea region where architects would stay themselves when traveling.

- Kaj Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark (Karl Smith-Meyer)
- Captain's House in Wieck a. Darß, Germany (Eva Feß-Hollenbach)
- House Birkedal on Møn, Denmark (Jan Henrik Jansen)
- Åhus Gästgivaregård, Sweden (Lena Nyholm)
- Smucke Steed in Glücksburg, Germany (Johanna Putensen)

A brief encounter with any one of these will make the heart of every design enthusiast beat a little faster.

Each of these very special lodgings is distinguished by the highest stylistic quality, personal touches, originality and passion for detail: Whether minimalist, experimental, posh or lavish; whether newly built or refurbished; whether houseboat, luxury loft or treehouse; whether one-time church, vineyard, mill or pump room; whether located in the trendiest metropolis, high in the mountains or on a remote coastline; whether holiday home, resort, glamping or bed and breakfast...

Pamela Todd
ID: 7816
Издательство: Thames & Hudson

In the history of the decorative arts, there has never been another designer who has achieved such lasting impact. While lamenting the excesses of mass-production, he set up the firm of Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Company. Soon it was producing a range of goods, from hand-woven tapestries, carpets and printed textiles to stained glass, metalwork and furniture. What the company offered was quite simply a way of life.

Now available in paperback, Pamela Todd’s book celebrates William Morris’s genius, presenting a thorough overview of his life and career, while setting out his guiding principles so that a modern audience can recreate the Arts & Crafts style in their own homes.

A series of case studies explores six contemporary houses – from a modern London townhouse to a traditional Arts & Crafts home in Massachusetts – that have followed and adapted Morris’s dicta, brilliantly demonstrating how the style can be applied to our environment today.

The book concludes with a comprehensive style-sourcing section, as well as a gazetteer of places to visit for inspiration.

Rosalind Ormiston, Nicholas M. Wells
ID: 6049
Издательство: Flame Tree Publishing

Revised edition of the bestselling backlist title. William Morris was an outstanding character of many talents, being an architect, writer, social campaigner, artist and, with his Kelmscott Press, an important figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. Many of us probably know him best, however, from his superb furnishings and textile designs, intricately weaving together natural motifs in a highly stylized two-dimensional fashion influenced by medieval conventions.

Following on from the bestselling success of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Mucha, of the same series, this delightful new book offers a survey of his life and work alongside some of his finest decorative work. A richly beautiful book.

Summer Thornton

Издательство: Rizzoli

Follow rising star designer Summer Thornton down the rabbit hole into a wonderland of color and pattern in her very first book of interiors.

Interior decorator Summer Thornton believes in designing with the wildest abandon: her world is one of nickel tubs, marble fireplaces, whimsical textiles, surprising patterns, and secret gardens. Often described as maximalist with a modern, fresh sensibility, Thornton manages to achieve highly polished, sophisticated interiors that indulge in a lighthearted, almost irreverent sense of whimsy. In her first book, she will inspire readers to follow their creative impulses and make their own rules.

Let yourself be transported with the dreamy, fantastical homes arranged by theme in Wonderland. “Fearless Romantic” features Thornton’s own gorgeous city house. “In Here Comes the Sun,” peek into an over-the-top tropical vacation home that’s centered on citrus. Look for her to misbehave a bit in “Good to be Bad.” If refinement is more your cup of tea, the polished settings in “The New Formal” are fit for a queen. Plus take a deep dive into the most colorful technicolor homes she’s ever designed in “Super Saturated.”

With outstanding photography from A-list photographers including Thomas Loof, Bjorn Wallander, Annie Schlechter, and Melanie Acevedo, and styling by AD contributor Mieke ten Have, Wonderland is a celebration of personal expression and fearless escapism.
