Nathalie Farman-Farma, Miguel Flores-Vianna, David Netto
ID: 16721
Издательство: Vendome Press

A refreshing antidote to the contrived nature of much contemporary interior design, the textiles and decoration of Nathalie Farman-Farma have gained a devoted following among celebrity and socialite clients for their folkloric charm and romantic exuberance. Drawing on the enchantment of fairytales and a history of material culture spanning Persia, Central Asia and Russia, Farman-Farma employs traditional printmaking techniques to create exquisitely detailed fabrics, which she uses to conjure interiors infused with warmth and natural charisma.

Farman-Farma’s townhouse and studio in London and her family homes in Connecticut and Lake Tahoe feature in this captivating volume, forming the backdrop for her Décors Barbares range of fabrics, as well as her vast collection of antique textiles, costumes and jewellery. Vogue has called Farman-Farma “the textile designer you need to know.” Her clients include Lauren Santo Domingo, Tory Burch, and influential interior designer David Netto, who writes the foreword to this book.

About the Authors:

Nathalie Farman-Farma was raised in Paris, France, and Greenwich, Connecticut. She studied classics at Brown and Columbia before working as associate editor for the New Yorker. She founded her studio, Décors Barbares, in 2010 in London, where she lives with her husband, Amir, and their two children.

Miguel Flores-Vianna has been a photographer, writer, and editor for more than 20 years. His books include A Wandering Eye (Vendome) and Haute Bohemians (Vendome), named design book of the year by T Magazine. His photography is regularly published in AD and Cabana. He lives in London.

David Netto is an influential interior designer who writes for T magazine, AD, and the Wall Street Journal.

Jesse Carrier, Mara Miller, Judith Nasatir
ID: 17206
Издательство: Rizzoli

One of today’s most celebrated and influential design firms creates eclectic, inspired, and quietly virtuosic interiors across the style spectrum — from bohemian glamour to country charm, sophisticated modern, and historically informed — for clients as individual in taste as Anna Wintour and Jessica Chastain.

Here the Carriers showcase homes that express their clients’ personalities and dreams, through the practical filters of lifestyle and place—and reveal the design principles behind them. Their range spans a historic, art-filled New York duplex, replete with period vestiges, to an updated Mediterranean-style Southern California house with an art deco–era core, and a refreshed Connecticut lakeside retreat with glass expanses that capture the views. Discrete touches throughout lift the overall effect. For example, a cashmere-covered sofa transforms a library into a space not only for reading but also for contemplation while vibrant, orange leather lining turns kitchen cabinets from a necessity into an incredible luxury. This stunning book will appeal to design fans interested in chic, livable spaces.

About the Authors:

Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller, the principals of Carrier and Company Interiors, create rooms that are a mix of timeless and contemporary design. Named to Architectural Digest’s AD100 and Elle Decor’s A-list, their projects and products have been published in major lifestyle publications, including Architectural Digest, Veranda, Elle Decor, Vogue, Milieu, and World of Interiors, and their first book Positively Chic Interiors. They have partnerships with leading home furnishings companies, including Century Furniture, Visual Comfort & Co., Lee Jofa, Loloi, and Soicher Marin. James Burke, Molly Mandell
ID: 18802
Издательство: Abrams

Desert by Design celebrates the interior worlds that exist in Earth’s most arid climes and, more importantly, the creative minds who inhabit them

It is an ode to these landscapes — their sounds, smells, flora, and fauna — filled with equal parts mystery and beauty and a glimpse into the projects and lives of those who have chosen to call them home. Deserts are known to be sensitive ecosystems where adaptability and resilience become common currency, requiring humans to live within the environment rather than apart from it. The result is a people who are inspired by challenge and who constantly create and innovate, a notion that set in for Marfa, Texas-based desert dwellers Molly Mandell and James Burke as they took off on a quest to identify thirty incredible spaces across the globe. By area, deserts make up a third of the planet’s landmass, so Mandell and Burke had a lot of ground to cover. They made their way through the southwestern United States, down to Mexico and Argentina, and across the pond to Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, and the Canary Islands. They traveled to Rajasthan, India, and to a micro-desert in New Zealand. They visited high desert and low desert, urban desert and rural desert, sandy desert and scrubby desert. They photographed everything from iconic properties inhabited by Yves Saint Laurent, César Manrique, and Donald Judd to thoughtfully curated, centuries-old adobe structures and modern, groundbreaking ones, all the while interviewing the choreographers, hoteliers, sculptors, environmentalists, chefs, audio engineers, and preservationists who bring them to life.

Desert by Design — its genuine, beautiful, and unexpected approach—is decidedly not your average interiors book. From tips for cultivating the intimate and unpretentious environment that is synonymous with the desert to images that evoke mindful living, it is both an homage to this unique and dynamic climate — its most extraordinary places and memorable personalities — and a manual for adopting elements of this lifestyle, no matter our location. Yes, this publication is for desert people, those who reside in it or who simply resonate with it. But it likewise exists for all of us who are seeking authentic design inspiration or courage to take the path less traveled, regardless of where we hang our hats.

About the Authors:

Molly Mandell and James Burke are arts and culture writers, photographers, and producers. Their work has appeared in the likes of Kinfolk, where Mandell was formerly an editor, Wallpaper*MonocleVogue Mexico, and the Los Angeles Times. In 2018, Mandell and Burke authored their first book, Made in Cuba, and served as the editor and art director and the copy editor, respectively, for Nathan Williams’s The Eye. More recently, they have comprised the editorial team for the platform Creative Voyage and acted as creative directors for burgeoning hospitality concepts around the globe. When not on the road, the duo resides in the artistic enclave of Marfa, Texas, where they are actively developing a cross-cultural, multidisciplinary residency program based in the Chihuahuan Desert and the land where Mexico and the United States meet.

In a comprehensive introduction, the author presents the relevant contemporary findings and requirements regarding noise-cancelling techniques. This is followed by a detailed presentation of some 40 real-life examples of up-and-coming and established architectural studios from around the world that have tackled acoustically complex situations to come up with their own, often original, solutions. In the metropolises of the world, populations are growing rapidly. It is predicted that by 2050, more than two-thirds of the world’s population will live in cities – and that is set to keep rising. So how can boundless growth and the inescapable finiteness of space in the urban context be resolved in the long term?

Design Solutions for Urban Densification presents a diverse array of possibilities from around the world for creating inner-city living space where there was none before: The smallest of gaps are filled in, block perimeter buildings completed, inner courtyards built up and houses extended upwards. Residential areas and infrastructure that have developed organically are skilfully preserved, and urban sprawl and soulless new housing estates artfully avoided – as the high quality of urban life is ensured for the future.

Randy M. Correll, Roger H. Seifter, Grant F. Marani and Gary L. Brewer
ID: 10676
Издательство: Monacelli Press

In Designs for Living, Roger H. Seifter, Randy M. Correll, Grant F. Marani, and Gary L. Brewer, who lead the residential practice at Robert A.M. Stern Architects, present fifteen houses the firm has completed over the past ten years. From contemporary interpretations of the shingle style to robust Mediterranean designs, the houses are stylistically diverse reflecting RAMSA’s deep knowledge of history and precedent. Each partner provides insight into the design process and his individual approach to working with clients.

Houses are located in dramatic settings from Napa and Sonoma to the spectacular coastline of the Hamptons and New England. Whether overlooking the ocean or nestled into the mountainside, these remarkable houses reveal the architects’ emphasis on the importance of context and their dedication to exploring the nature of place and environment. Each house invokes the vernacular architectural heritage particular to its region while gracefully reflecting its natural surroundings.

Connecting contemporary lifestyles to traditional American aesthetics, these residences are exceptional both for their timelessness and their ability to evoke a conversation with the past — a dialogue the RAMSA partners believe lies at the heart of architecture.

"While many architecture firms curtail the residential side of their practices to take on more commercial and institutional commissions, AD100 stalwart Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA) has maintained an enduring commitment to houses. From a Malibu compound modeled on a Mediterranean hill town to a Shingle Style manse in the Hamptons, their work displays not only a mastery of historical styles but also real dexterity in marshaling traditional idioms to the beat of the contemporary world."
— Architectural Digest

"The volume tours readers through fifteen houses completed by the RAMSA partners over the last decade. Stylistically diverse, historically informed, contextually appropriate, and functionally up to the moment, each offers its own lesson in timelessness." —New York Spaces

"Most people will never own home by Robert A.M. Stern. Most people will never even see a home by Stern, the dean of the Yale School of Architecture and a favorite architect of the tasteful privileged. His houses, all of them extravagantly detailed and rooted in the architecture of centuries past, are hidden behind high hedged or at the ends of long driveways in places like Montecito, East Hampton, Martha's Vineyard and Kiawah Island. But now there is a bit of democratization going on, at least in how Stern's houses are presented." — 1st Dibs Introspective
